Message from the Director

In 2010 AISM celebrated the 20th anniversary of its founding

and embarked on a new five‐year Strategic Plan. Working

closely together over a period of several months, the Board of

Directors, administrators, parents, teachers and students

developed strategies to face the challenges and to take full

advantage of the opportunities of a growing school.

This Strategic Plan of 2010 represents an exciting chapter in

AISM’s history. We have purposely set our sights high to

create the most exciting, challenging and innovative learning

environment for our students possible. Our strategy is to

encourage every stakeholder to envision the American

International School of Mozambique as a leading international

school in Africa within the next five years, and to work

together to make the vision come true.

Our commitment to international recognition is more than

just words. We have been on this path for many years and

recent milestones include authorization in all three IB

programs: PYP, MYP and DP; a well‐trained and experienced

international faculty; increased enrolments with waiting lists

at many levels; and the expansion and renovation of facilities.

Today, we have the opportunity to build on our strengths and

exceed the dreams of the past. Our goals are established and

our priorities are identified to take us to the next level and

beyond. Student learning is always at the center of our

decision making. The Strategic Plan contained within this

document is designed to provide our students with

educational programs and facilities truly fit for learning in the

21st century.

Where will AISM be in five years?

AISM will take positive steps over the next five years to

accomplish the goals and objectives in this Strategic Plan. Five

years from now, the following statements will describe AISM:

A leading school in Africa with a high level of

excellence in education in a stimulating learning

environment.

A school committed to the development of diverse

sports and activities programs.

A place where community engagement is actively

cultivated.

A school with ambitions for continued growth and

expansion.




STRATEGIC PLAN The following strategies have been developed to ensure that the Mission is supported and to position AISM to be effective over the

next five year period in reaching the stated goals in the Vision. They build upon the previous five‐year strategic plan that guided

AISM from 2005 through 2010. The high‐level strategies will guide specific actions by the school, which will in turn be assessed by

measurable outcomes which have been defined by the administration and Board.

2.4 Planning for Campus Expansion: Explore various options to enlarge the school’s campus and adhere to environmental standards.

Board Commitment 2010‐2011

By March 2011 the Board will have directed a feasibility study and decided on the expansion path that AISM will

undergo in the next five to ten years.

The option to conduct a detailed evaluation and feasibility study for growth and expansion of the school will be considered to

help us:

Determine the impacts, both positive and negative, of increasing the size of the student population from curricular,

pedagogical and philosophical perspectives. Explore and evaluate various options to enlarge the school’s campus.

Assess the financial implications of student growth and facility expansion and investigate possible sources to help finance

the school’s projects.




Action Plans, Monitoring and Evaluation

AISM’s vision and mission are the touchstones for all

educational and business decisions. The Strategic Plan

articulates three overarching goals and key objectives to

provide a strategic focus in all three domains: Educational

Programs, Facilities, and Finance and Operations.

At the beginning of each school year, members of the

administration and staff create new action plans with clearly

defined yearly objectives which are in alignment with the

overarching goals of the Strategic Plan.

A frequent assessment of progress is necessary in order to

ensure that objectives are achieved in a timely manner. To

this end, a yearly Monitoring Plan is used by the board and

administration to ensure that focus is maintained throughout

the year. At the end of each semester, the AISM Board Task

Forces for each strategic goal and the Board’s Strategic Plan

Oversight Committee meet with staff and report to the

Association on progress toward the goals of the Strategic

Plan.
