A call to action
2014 was the year an idea became reality. It was the idea of bridging talented students from Aalborg with top-tier industry companies and consulting firms. And it became reality through knowledge-giving and network-creating events with committed companies. 2014 was the year Aalborg Management Consulting Association was founded.
Inspired by similar associations in other university cities in Denmark and a burning desire to explore the consulting industry, I took the decision to found Aalborg Management Consulting Association in the spring of 2014. Soon after, several Executive Board Members accompanied me to develop the organization, create awareness and build relationship with students and top-tier companies. The outcome of such a decision is of course linked with quite some degree of uncertainty. We set our goals really high, and it is with great fulfillment that we can now conclude the first year of our existence with having held 5 events as well as having established 3 company partnerships and 2 association partnerships.
In order to create value for our members and partners, we continuously work to develop our organization and look into new opportunities to collaborate with stakeholders. Currently, we are improving event material for our partners, enhancing our web as well as working on new concepts such as AMCA Alumni and AMCA Advisory Board. Like all student associations, we also go through an inevitable turnover when members in the Executive Board graduate in the summer period. To enable us to keep momentum, we have established an internal mentor-mentee arrangement divided into different responsibility areas, and we constantly work to enhance our internal processes within these areas. You can read further about our achievements and plans for the future in this annual report.
I would like to thank all Executive Board Members for their contribution to the achievements, we have made in 2014/2015; our members for their great enthusiasm at our events; and of course our partners that have made it all possible. However, this is just the beginning. We are looking forward to add value and to bridge talented students with current and upcoming partner companies for many years to come – starting with 2015/2016.

One of the most important tasks for AMCA is to create value for and ensure good relations with our partners. We continuously work to improve this and during the past year we have developed a concept by which every partner company has an Executive Board Member assigned to take care of their specific interests. This ensures one point of contact that knows all the important details of the partnership.
We are currently working on a Partner Cheat Sheet. The goal is to create a document that provides our partners with an easy overview of what a partnership comprises of. Furthermore, it is important for us that our partners get the most out of their events, so this document will include advices, based on previous events, on how they can increase the satisfaction of their audience.
ACCOUNTmanagement
Finance and Accounting in AMCA is engaged with budgeting, bank reconciliation, invoicing and working capital management and the Annual Report.
Being part of a start-up the initial target was on creating a plan for the future. Having made an association wide budget, we continued the development of the function by designing an invoice template that was used in the communication with partners and suppliers. Our current focus is on managing the working capital and on ensuring that we will build a buffer that can support our operations even if some of our partners delay certain payments. Managing our Cash Flow will be a key factor during the next year as well. Currently working on the Annual Report, we are looking forward to presenting AMCA’s accomplishments during the past year.
FINANCE AND ACCOUNTING
Internal
Activity Areas
Marketing and Communications is engaged with understanding, anticipating and satisfying the needs of the students in Aalborg University in regard to the Management Consulting industry. Aligned with the strategic goal to deliver quality content, we are currently testing and exploring different concepts and techniques for customer engagement. We are primarily focused on Facebook and we are currently collecting data to gain an understanding of what content drives visitors to our Facebook page and what makes people decide to ‘like’ the page.
One test has been the introduction of weekly brain teasers. So far, direct engagement is mild and views are comparatively low, but direct feedback has been good so far. Through future projects we plan to explore and introduce other methods for engagement.
Three areas will be relevant for our future projects. First, audience-building engagement should continue for another 6 months, focusing on the testing of new and different content, and the input from our partners. A workshop on social media strategy is still needed for a better lock-down on content strategy for future social media officers.
Second, analytics on amca.dk is still to be developed. An effective digital strategy means alignment between all platforms, which is why steps should be taken to gather and analyze data from the website’s analytics. Improving the interchanging communication between Facebook and our webpage are going to be considered and included in a wider marketing strategy.
We will also focus on personal marketing and physical branding for the coming semester. This is an area that is still under development and we hope that through the recruitment of AMCA ambassadors we will be able to have a better exposure to current and future members.
marketing and communications
Our WEB activities are oriented towards developing our website and backend structure. During the past year, we built a website with responsive design and implemented a login, registering and mail system. The website is currently serving as a main tool for the registration of new AMCA members and for the registration of participants on our events.
Considering its operational importance in regard to our activities, it is important that we keep developing this as a platform for the future and one of our current targets is the development of a multiuser accessibility system. This system will provide more value to our partners, by giving them access to the CV’s and the motivational statements of our talented members. This way our partners will get a better access to those students from Aalborg University, that are the most interested to develop within the industry.
We are currently researching how our website can be more modular, so that it is easier to implement new functionality in the future. Our long term strategy is to get more functionality build into the website, and new functions will be implemented continuously.
HR at AMCA is responsible for the overall recruitment process of new candidates. Over the first year we have recruited six candidates with backgrounds in IT Management, Law, Business and Computer Sciences. We are embracing both formal and informal recruiting. As a formal method for recruitment, we are using job postings to attract attention to available roles within the association. Informally, we are always on the lookout for members that are excited about AMCA on our events and through networking.
The recruiting process has the purpose of fulfilling the organization’s growth needs, which means ensuring that we have the right people at the right time in the board. In that sense it is important for us to have a clear HR plan. The plan is aligned with our strategic goals and this helps us to identify our future needs, so that we can better plan how to fulfil them.
During the past year, we worked on creating a mentoring process, which has been put in motion with most of the newcomers on the board. This mentoring process aims to serve as both an induction and a training program so that new board members can quickly step up and perform on their new roles.

EVENTS2014/2015
Dansk Supermarked
Business Development and the Consulting Industry
25th September 2014
This was the first partnership event by AMCA. We had nearly 100 registrations for the event, 58 expected guests with 45 showing up.
The event started with a researcher from the Business Model Design Center (BMDC) introducing to the participants the concept of the Business Model Canvas (BMC) after which the consultants from Dansk Supermarked presented their company and their new In-House Consulting department. Subsequently, the participants were divided into groups and they applied the BMC on a Dansk Supermarked case. The event was wrapped up by presentations, feedback and some informal networking.
“It was very exciting to participate in AMCA’s first event. I have recommended it to several of my friends who I know would
benefit greatly from the participation in such events. This is the first time I’m
participating in an event where I could take as much home.”
“The fact that the event was partly theory and partly case work was great. I learned a lot from it, and I was highly motivated as
the case was actually something Dansk Supermarked could use. It was precise,
well set up, great speakers and interesting people.”
Event satisfaction result 4,5/5
“I came alone and there were no people from my class. I was really pleased with the way the groups were formed and I think that all
worked very well. The whole event was very professional and it was great to collaborate with AMCA.”

22nd october 2014
AMCA organized an event in a cooperation with Telenor at their premises in Aalborg. We had 31 registered members for the event and it started with a presentation of Telenor. After that the consultants from Telenor presented the differences between internal and external consulting and introduced the Pyramid Principle by Barbara Minto to the guests. Later on, the participants were divided in groups where they had to use their newly acquired know-ledge to solve a case that was focused on the retail strategy of Telenor.
“Hearing about experiences from people that have graduated
already, is valuable information regarding the transition from
studying to working.”
“It was a very professional event with great and substantial input from Telenor. I found the case very interesting and liked that the employees
from Telenor discussed some issues while we were discussing the cases in groups.”
