S A C R A M E N T S ANOINTING OF THE SICK: For home or hospital visits, please con-

tact the office to arrange date and time.

BAPTISM: Baptism Classes are required for both the parents and

godparents. Parents must come in person to the office and bring

the child’s original birth Certificate. Godparents must be practicing

Catholics up to date on their sacraments. Requirements for God-

parents.

1) Letter of good standing from their parish church.

2) Baptismal Class Certificate

3) Recent Baptismal Certificate with Notations, where it shows

when you got married by the Catholic church and Confirmed.

4) Call the parish office for more information.

Consolation Ministry: Available to parishioners who have had a

of the wedding. Two Programs are required by the Dallas Diocese.

RECONCILIATION: The sacrament of reconciliation is celebrated on

Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults: RCIA is for those who are

seeking Christ, His sacraments and entry into the Church. If you

Pope Francis’Apostolic Exhortation Laudete et Exsultate on the Call to Holiness

“Let the grace of your baptism bear fruit in a path of holi-ness. Let everything be open to God; turn to him in every situation. Do not be dismayed, for the power of the Holy Spirit enables you to do this, and holiness, in the end, is the fruit of the Holy Spirit in your life. When you feel the tempta-tion to dwell on your own weakness, raise your eyes to Christ crucified and say: “Lord, I am a poor sinner, but you can work the miracle of making me a little bit better”. In the Church, holy yet made up of sinners, you will find everything you need to grow towards holiness. The Lord has bestowed on the Church the gifts of scripture, the sacraments, holy places, living communities, the witness of the saints and a multifaceted beauty that proceeds from God’s love, “like a bride bedecked with jewels” (Is 61:10)”. The Nativity of John the Baptist

In the beginning of his Gospel, Luke told us how the angel of the Lord appeared to a priest named Zachariah and informed him that his barren wife, Elizabeth, would bear him a son, even though both of them were advanced in years, and he would name him John. In the sixth month after the announcement of John’s birth, the angel Gabriel was sent to Galilee to a virgin named Mary, a relative of Elizabeth, and advised her that the Holy Spirit would come upon her, the power of the Most High would overshadow her, she would bear a son and be named Jesus, who would be called holy, the Son of God… Approximately six months before we celebrate Christmas, the birth of Jesus, today we celebrate the birth of John the Baptist. Accord-ing to the Catechism of the Catholic Church (CCC) paragraphs 523, 719, and 720: John the Baptist is the Lord’s immediate pre-cursor or forerunner, sent to prepare His way. Prophet of the Most High, John surpasses all the prophets of whom he is the last…Going before Jesus in the spirit and power of Elijah, John bears witness to Christ in his preach-ing, by his Baptism of conversion, and through his martyrdom. In John, the Holy Spirit concludes His speaking through the prophets. John com-pletes the cycle of prophets begun by Elijah. He proclaims the imminence of the consolation of Israel; he is the voice of the Consoler who is com-ing…John came to bear witness to the light. With John the Baptist, the Holy Spirit begins the resto-ration to man of the divine likeness, prefiguring what he would achieve with and in Christ. John was the last great prophet heralded the coming of the Messiah into our broken world. He bridged the Old Testament and the New Testa-ment. He pointed out to his two disciples (one of them was Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother) that Jesus was the Lamb of God, so his two disciples followed Jesus to see where He stayed (John 1:35-42). We, through Baptism, like John the Baptist, accept God’s call to be heralds of Christ, and be prophets of God’s word of justice, compassion, and peace. We are called to live a life of faith, which consists in a burning desire to be with the Lord and, hence, in a continuous search for the place where He lives, as Andrew did. Pope Francis reminds us that the Sacraments, prayer, and meditation on the Word of God are the keys to living well that life of faith. May Our Lady who prepared for the arrival of Christ with the totality of her existence, help us and guide us in our steps to meet the Lord in His second coming. Amen.

MEDITACIÓN EVANGÉLICO - ALENTAR ENTENDI-MIENTO MÁS PROFUNDO DE LA ESCRITURA (Gospel Meditation) La natividad de San Juan Bautista Pero el ángel le dijo: "No temas, Zacarías". (Lc. 1:13). Por aquello del miedo de encontrar a Dios en la vida y que revele cosas que no se comprenden de inmediato. El Evangelio nos dice que Zacarías se turbó al verlo, y el temor se apoderó de él.

¿Qué hubieras hecho tú en lugar de Zacarías? ¿Cuál hubiera sido tu re-spuesta? Para iluminar la respuesta, tenemos la luz de las palabras del Papa Francisco, que nos dan pe-queñas pautas a seguir en la Solem-nidad de hoy. Dijo él: "Los días más largos del año; los días que tienen más luz, porque en las tinieblas de aquel tiempo Juan era el hombre de la luz: no de una luz propia, sino de una luz reflejada. Como una luna. Y cuando Jesús comenzó a predicar, la luz de Juan empezó a disiparse, a disminuir, a desvanecerse. Él mismo lo dice con claridad al hablar de su propia misión. Es necesario que Él crezca y yo mengüe" (Lunes 24 de junio de 2013). Juan Bautista fue el gran profeta y el heraldo de Jesús el Mesías. Preparó

el camino del Señor revelando a Jesús a otros como el Mesías y como el Cordero de Dios. San Juan ejemplifica la vida del cris-tiano que proclama el mensaje de salvación y arrepentimiento. Se enfoca en la dirección correcta, vuelve la mirada hacia el Cordero de Dios y se une sin reservas a él. El destino de San Juan estaba escrito, y lo llevó a cabo con dignidad desde el comienzo hasta el final. Ahora es el turno de los seguidores de Jesús de anunciarlo al mundo que sufre y que busca la justicia. ¡San Juan Bautista ruega por nosotros! GOSPEL MEDITATION - ENCOURAGE DEEPER UN-DERSTANDING OF SCRIPTURE The Nativity of Saint John the Baptist Tiny fingers and toes. A little yawn. A loud cry. An infant wrapped in swaddling clothes. "What will this child be?" It is a question every parent asks time and time again. As first steps are taken, as personalities emerge, as a child shows interest in reading or drawing or climbing, the question is on our lips. "What will this child be?" This question is asked as John the Baptist is born. Will he be a priest like his father? Does his strange, unexpected name signal a departure from that inheritance? Could Elizabeth and Zechariah ever have predicted what would be? Under the tutelage of his priestly father, John "became strong in spirit." As an adult, John would retreat into the desert to preach repentance. He would attract a large following and eventually at-tract the attention of the rulers of the day. He would point out the adulterous ways of King Herod and would find himself in prison. Eventually, he would be beheaded. But today, he is a child, an infant newly born. On this special feast, we're reminded of the great humility required of parents. The character forma-tion, the discipline and encouragement, the violin lessons and soccer practices ? every parental effort is sub-jected to the decisions of the child themself. Even children on a sure track by high school graduation transform under life's cir-cumstances. Entrusting our children to God can be incredibly intimidating. "What will this child be," especially when that transformation lies outside of my control? John the Baptist's story might not have ended as his parents imagined. But he is celebrated as the greatest of the prophets, as the one who pre-pared the way for the Messiah. Here is the hope of all Christian parents -- that our children would be raised in such a way that when people meet them, they meet Jesus Christ.

We will have 2 lawyers available Alvino Guajardo and Eduardo Carranza to offer their services to help complete your last will and testament. CATHOLIC QUOTES - WORDS TO INSPIRE THE FAITH-FUL The best prayer is the one in which there is the most love.-Charles de Foucauld WHY DO WE DO THAT? - CATHOLIC TRADITIONS EX-PLAINED Question: June 24 celebrates the feast of the Nativity of Saint John the Baptist. How was that date chosen and why? Answer: The date set for John the Baptist's birth only came into existence once the date to celebrate Jesus' birth was set. Evidence shows that by the middle of the fourth century Christians were celebrating the birth of Jesus around December 25. No one at that time knew when Jesus was born, but the date seemed to be selected to counter the Roman festival to the sun god. Once December 25 had been selected for the birth of Jesus, a number of other dates could be set, using the biblical evidence at hand. When the angel appeared to Mary and she conceived, her cousin, Elizabeth, the mother of John the Baptist, was in her sixth month. If Jesus was born on December 25, then he had to be conceived nine months before, on March 25. If Eliza-beth was then in her sixth month, then John the Bap-tist was due three months later on June 25. Then why June 24? A rather convincing reason stems from John's witness in John's Gospel. There John the Baptist says that Jesus must increase and he, John, must decrease. The other Gospels also have John point to Jesus and not himself as the chosen one of God. In making John's birth a day less than Jesus' full nine months, the Christian community communicated this Gospel reality in its liturgical calendar. Thus the Christian community continued to highlight John's mis-sion and ministry. Maybe we could strive toward that

same mission in our own lives.
