Dear Sir or Madam:

I am writing on behalf of Amanda Cerda, who is graduating with an educational degree from Western Governors

University this year.

I had the privilege of being Amanda Cerda's Clinical Supervisor during her student teaching assignment at Lewis E.

Wadsworth Elementary this semester. Based on my conversations and meetings with Amanda, the lesson plans and other documentation she provided, discussions with Host Teacher, as well as my observations of Amanda in a first grade classroom setting over the last 12 weeks, I feel qualified to comment upon her training, skills and competency as a potential classroom teacher.

I got to know Amanda over the last 12 weeks and I was initially impressed with her background, her teaching skills and her heart for the education of elementary-age youngsters. When I began the observation period, I saw immediately that she was a competent teacher in the making. By the end of the observation period, my confidence had increased even more, and I am pleased to recognize her now as an extremely successful graduate with a bright future in any elementary school that is fortunate enough to have her.

Without a doubt, Amanda will make an outstanding classroom teacher as she possess everything it takes to make a positive impact on the lives of young children: she is confident and comfortable in the classroom; students like her and respect her, and remain engaged and attentive during her presentations; she is well organized and able to create and follow both the district-mandated lesson plans as well as her own; and, she maintains a professional demeanor in the classroom while allowing the children to see her as a sweet and caring person at the same time. She is not just enthusiastic about teaching but, most importantly, it is clear that teaching is not just a role or a job opportunity for Amanda -- she really cares.

In the last several weeks, I have watched Amanda teach entire language arts and mathematics blocks, plus a variety of other topics in between. I have also been able to observe her once during one-on-one time with individual students, during breaks, snack-times, returning from recess and other activities, and during transitions involving moving children from one area of the school to another. I have also had the opportunity to watch Amanda with and without the Host Teacher present, and during times when a subset of the children were returning after an absence back into her classroom. Every time, I concluded my observations knowing that every child was in good hands, and with a feeling of absolute confidence that these children were receiving the standard of instruction and interaction typical in a classroom of this type -- and slightly more.

It is my honor to wholeheartedly recommend Amanda Cerda for a teaching position in your district or for any other elementary school related task she may be assigned. I am pleased to recommend Amanda Cerda as a candidate for a teaching position. Amanda was a Student Teacher in my first grade classroom at Wadsworth Elementary School, in the fall of 2011.

Amanda came well prepared to her student teaching experience. She immediately adapted to my teaching style, but never shied away from offering her own ideas and perspectives. When she began her student teaching, it was immediately evident that Amanda had a love for the profession and a concern for the students. She was willing to come up with creative lessons that proved to be interesting and educationally effective for the first graders. She learned how to manage the day and guide the students from one lesson to another while adjusting the day or lesson to the needs of the students.

Amanda spent a great deal of time working with individual students on reading strategies to help two of my less capable readers. She had a wonderful ability to connect with the students. With a firm but friendly manner, Amanda managed to keep control in the classroom. The first grade students loved her.

Amanda had excellent rapport with the teachers at Wadsworth Elementary School. She was always sharing her lessons and ideas with other faculty members. She participated in many teacher meetings, in-services and parent conferences.

I am confident that Amanda will be an asset to any staff that she works with. She is confident, knowledgeable, and has the skills of a seasoned teacher. I believe that she will continue to grow and become even more effective as a teacher with further opportunities. I recommend Amanda to you without reservation.
