School Review Findings

Last week we had two Education Queensland School Improvement Unit team members visit and review our school.

All Qld schools are reviewed over a 4 year cycle. Our last review took place in 2015 and a full 25-30 page report will be sent to us next term which will then be available to all.

The reviewers gave some wonderful feedback in regards to our school culture and facility. They highlighted the outstanding facility and learning environment we have. Classroom space, resources, gardens and layout are in the words of the lead reviewer, “second to none”.

The big thing they noticed was our positive school culture. They were impressed with the positive, dedicated and supportive nature of our community, staff, parents and students. This is sometimes the biggest area of improve-ment required and to have such a strong school community means we are in a position to make some wonderful student learning achievements occur.

A big thanks to all who took part in the review especially the 20-30 parents, volunteers, com-munity members who were spoken to at the school gates, randomly interviewed around the school or in meetings. Your honest and con-structive feedback is appreciated.

The review will guide our improvement strate-gies over the next 4 years.

Reading Results

Next term we will have 34 students taking part in our Daily Rapid Reading Program. Our read-ing results continue to improve. Mrs Alford is looking to continue to engage our younger readers by upgrading home readers for the lower reading levels. Our wonderful P&C has decided to fund these up-grades. The $2000 or so that the P&C have contributed is a wonderful gesture and such

contributions can’t be made without such a great group of P&C members and volunteers fundraising for our students. Please support the P&C and assist where you can as it really does make a difference for our students.

You Can Do It

Our current focus is Resilience. Over the last week we watched and discussed a video of an American student, Ezra Frech. Ezra’s story was a good example of resilience in action. It has been great seeing students more aware of resil-ience.

School Grounds

Recently we have had a number of dogs enter the school grounds. Unfortunately these dogs are not collared and owners are unknown. The top oval does not have cyclone/dog proof fenc-ing and we are hoping to have this rectified as soon as possible. We’ll also need to ensure gates are closed. If you know of any locals that may own the roaming dogs please pass on our concerns as we will be required to call council officers in future.

Project Club

Liam showed some great problem solving skills this week. Again, this program is to assist to engage in learning in different ways . It has been very positive to see and we’ll contin-ue to develop it.

Hi all

I can’t believe that we are almost at the end of Term 2, only 1 more week to go!

Where has the year gone?

Holidays are such a great time to regroup, end of Term 2! Rest and relax. It is also

a good opportunity to spend time together as a family and to enjoy not having to

come to school (or prepare to come to school). Holidays are important to help us

be resilient. If all we ever did was work or go to school and never had a chance to

relax and chill then we would not be very resilient because our minds and bodies

would get run down and overstimulated. We need to take time off to reset and to

allow our bodies and minds to have a chance to process what has been going on

in our lives and to relax.

I hope that these holidays are a chance for you to do so, and that you feel re-

freshed and relaxed when we return for term 3.

Have a wonderful and safe holiday and I will see you next term,

Chappy Caitlin

Chappy Update

News from the Office The dental van will be visiting the school over the holidays, notes

have gone home this week. Please contact the office if you did not

receive the forms in your child’s homework folder.

Q Parents will be setup in early in Term 3. This is an ‘app’ that par-

ents can download and access their students reports, awards, absen-

tee information and invoices. I will send you an invitation via e-mail

early in Term 3. Please follow the directions and once you have pro-

vided your identification you will have access to Q Parents. Please con-

tact me in the office if you have any further questions.

Hear and Say assessors are coming out to the school on Friday 11th October.

The hearing test will cost $18.35 per child. If you are interested please contact

the office and I will forward you the online consent form. Payment through the

office will need to be made prior to their visit . Students of Aboriginal and

Torres Straight Islander origin will have the cost of their testing covered by

North Coast Aboriginal Corporation for Community Health.

19th November

Pie Drive – Please enjoy your pies and a very big Thank you for your support of this fundraiser. It raised approximately $550 for the school!

Mini Sports Day - It was a great day and a great little fundraiser for the P&C, raising approx $600 for the school!

Muster - Negotiations are still taking place over our contract for the muster but please save some time in your diaries during 20-25th August to help out an get yourself a free day pass into the muster! Everyone always has a great time and it is such a great fundraiser for the school.

Ladies Social Night Out!! Invitations will go home on Monday to all mums for our first Ladies Social Night on Saturday 20th July! Please save the date!

Purchase of new Home Reader - The P&C have gladly agreed to purchase a brand new set of home readers for the younger grades worth around $2000. The old books will be donated to a mission charity.

Container Refund Scheme The P&C have set up an account at “Return It” in Gympie where you take your empty cans and bottles to receive a refund. If you would like to donate your refund to the school and help us raise some funds, just quote the P&C scheme ID number C10174756 and the refund will go straight into the P&C bank account. Using the scheme ID number allows you to drop off your containers and they will count them for you. Simply print off a sticker at the front counter, attach it to your bagged up containers, hand it over and they will do the rest. Although 10 cents may not feel like a lot, col-lectively with the whole school community doing it, we may be surprised how much it adds up to.

Newsletter Ads In the interest of getting to know about the expertise we have with-in our school community, the P&C would like to introduce advertising spaces in the newsletter. As a trial for the rest of Term 2, parents of current students are invited to place an advertisement in the newsletter at no cost. If the trial is successful, the advertising spaces could be opened up to the school community for a small fee to help raise funds for the school. Please email your name, contact details and short business description to Tracy to be included in an upcoming newsletter.

Next Meeting The next P&C meeting will be the first week back in Term 3. At-tending the P& C meetings is a great way to meet other parents in our school community and get up to date about what’s happening in our little school. Regards
