ALUMINUM DOME ROOFS
The eye catching aesthetical view of aluminium domes has become a dominant sight in many parts of the industry and architecture. The light and strong structure is suitable for covering storage tanks, bulk storage facilities and can be used to crease impressive architectural solutions. From the blazing Mojave Desert to the humidity of Singapore and the gale force winds and snow of the Antarctic, aluminium domes have repeatedly proven their strength, durability and flexibility.
Installation
Domes can be installed in many
different ways, depending on the site
conditions, their diameter or size and
the available time for installation. There
are very few structures however that
come close to the few man hours
required for installation. The installation
crews and experienced supervision
that we offer enable you to take full
advantage of these benefits. Our
experience also allows us to engineer
and produce domes in a very short time.
Unique batten bar design
The unique and patented batten bar
design of an aluminium dome is a
true asset. The used materials will not
deteriorate under ultra-violet light or
elevated temperatures. This is not only
the basis for a leak-free dome structure,
but it also adds structural strength to the
dome roof.
• Able to withstand high loads by providing greater stiffness and strength to weight ratio than any other dome geometry system, like snow loads up to 7.9 kN/m² (165 psf) and wind speeds of up to 240 km/hr (150mph)
• Maintenance free, as the permanent aluminium exterior never rusts, degenerates nor degrades
• The built-in advantages and beauty of an aluminium dome will be appreciated for years to come
• Light weight and free-span structure manufactured from aluminium and stainless steel
• Full installation and project support available
Solutions
• Truly maintenance free
• Short installation time (shortest in the market) with experienced crews
• Low total cost of ownership
• Guaranteed water tight
• Turn key solution, engineering, supply and installation
• Maximised service life (more than 50 years)
• Clear span
• Light weight
• Reduces the effect of the elements (sun, rain, wind and lightning)
• Effectively reduces emissions from storage
• Optimal total cost of ownership
• Can be adjusted for any possible climate
Solutions
Highlights
The lightweight economical covering solution is ideal for covering steel
external floating roofs, as cover for new tanks or even for replacement
of the more traditional steel roofs on storage tanks. CTS offers a full
solution from engineering to supply and installation, which is the
only way to truly get all benefits domes have to offer. With over 1,500
domes supplied worldwide CTS is the leader in engineering supply and
installation of these state of the art covering solutions.
Aluminium domes, standards and safety
Our aluminium domes are fully compliant with API 650, EN14015, EN 1991 and EN 1999
and EEMUA 159.
Engineering
During the engineering phase our team of engineers will review local load requirements
and all combinations (Live-, wind-, snow-, seismic load etcetera). Also safety aspects
are taken into consideration, this includes ATEX and NFPA. Completely in line with our
sustainability vision all emission requirements will play a major role in the decisions we
make in the design phase.
Sliding bearing
As a standard our aluminium domes will be equipped with a sliding support on a low
friction PTFE (Teflon®) pad. This will reduce forces on the top of the tank.
Water and vapour tightness of an aluminium dome
Aluminium Domes can also be built fully vapour tight. Generally a dome is installed as a
free vented roof, it is possible supply a dome suitable for Nitrogen blanketing or internal
pressures up to 9” (230mm) water column.
Dome roofs for storage tanks
For covering clarifiers, trickling filters, basins and many other vital parts
of a sewage treatment plant an aluminium dome structure is the perfect
covering solution. These free span, light weight and rust free covers will
eliminate emissions and stench. They will also contribute to sustaining
a controlled process environment. CTS offers a full solution from
engineering to supply and installation, which is the only way to truly
get all benefits domes have to offer. With over 1,500 domes supplied
worldwide CTS is the leader in engineering supply and installation of
these state of the art covering solutions.
Why aluminium
Waste water atmospheres can be very aggressive and corrosive. Research and experience with our products has shown that aluminium
will deal with these circumstances perfectly. It is even compatible with high sulphurous atmospheres. This makes aluminium technically
and economically the best solution for covering facilities in urban areas.
Flat covers
CTS aluminium flat covers offer many practical advantages over traditional covers. Unlike concrete they can be removed easily and they
do not degenerate. They are lightweight and they do not corrode. Nor do they degrade under UV- and Ozone exposure like most of the
other materials available. An aluminium flat cover installed to last for extensive periods of time without any maintenance.
Suspended covers
In certain applications the volume of air to be treated could generate a concern. The lesser the volume to be treated, the lower the
treatment costs. To facilitate this drive for lower cost of ownership on air treatment facilities we offer suspended or truss supported
covers. There minimise treated volumes.
Structure and appurtenances
Besides all the advantages mentioned earlier our aluminium structures will be able to deal with existing structures like bridges, access
areas, ducting and others. Engineering will revolve around a minimum in changes to the actual waste water plant and the way it is operated.
• Keeps contaminants out of the treatment process
• Moderates process temperatures
• Fully compatible with all waste water effluents
• Installation in service
Solutions
Aluminium dome roofs for wastewater plants and sewage treatment
CTS aluminium domes are the ideal solution for
dealing with challenging environmental enclosure.
Whether it is keeping the elements out or getting
the largest amount of bulk in the smallest amount
of space, an aluminium dome has proven to be
the optimal solution. Domes offer the ideal span-
to-rise ratio in standard and custom designed
configurations for any clearance requirement.
Light and strong
The light weight reduces the foundation cost. When
applications require, aluminium domes can even be designed
to support heavy process equipment.
Large clear spans
The possibility to cover large diameters of up to 270m (900ft)
in diameter offers unique solutions for material handling and
protection of the environment. The free span structure does
not have columns no trusses or internal supports that interfere
with equipment or transfer of stored materials. Our dome
structures are strong enough to support the suspensions of
concentrated equipment loads and able to withstand even the
harshest climates.
The aluminium dome is a unique triangulated
space truss skinned with aluminium panels
secured by a patented batten closure system.
With an ability to offer clear spans from 10 to
more than 300 meter aluminium domes are
specified for large covers area’s such as churches,
sports arenas, exhibition centres. Aluminium
domes are as beautiful as they are efficient and
durable. Aluminium integrated structural frames
are permanent and lightweight. Optional panel
systems offer eye-dazzling options.
Self-supporting structure
Geodesic domes are entirely self-supporting. Depending on
the design and the supporting structure reaction forces at the
base supports of the dome are minimal. For this reason many
of our domes are installed on PTFE-covered sliding supports.
The dome itself is strong enough to deal with its own internal
forces. In other cases however support walls are used to
distribute loads from fixed bearing points of the dome. Any
dome will be designed to deal with local circumstances ,
and to comply with local engineering codes and building
regulations.
