Destruction; a final step on the road to safety that separates the sheep from the wolves. Work at height

leaves no room for failure, so after sourcing the finest materials and refining the structural integrity of

every product we put them through a round of rigorous tests to guarantee their supremacy. Here’s how

we know Altitude is the worlds first fit-for-purpose range of scaffold safety equipment:

1//THE STATIC TESTFirst we attach the product to an anchor point and apply pressure by

hanging a 55kg weight from it. If it can withstand the load for at least 3

minutes without degradation it receives a pass.

2//THE DYNAMIC TESTOnce a product passes the static test we raise the stakes with

a dynamic test. After attaching a 10kg weight via a static

rope we elevate the product and release it into a 4 me-

ter free fall that generates an impact force of 235kg

(1235N). And we don’t just do it once. A product only

passes when it can survive the impact at least 3

times! That gives every item in the Altitude range

an unbeatable 47x safety factor.

This is evolution. A hybrid of reinforcing webbed cores and skin

of blackened leather. Amidst structurally engineered contours

and rated block stitch supports sit 316 stainless steel anchor

points to lock down your tools. The hybrids know how to perform;

their non-abrasive surface and dynamic force absorbing proper-

ties earned them a 47x safety factor and 5kg safe working loads.

Once crafted by the hands of soft-industrial artists they undergo

three inspections to ensure only perfection is allowed into ser-

vice. Those that make it receive a unique mark. A final symbol of

absolute peace of mind.

LIFTINGTHE VEIL/We all love leather. Its sleek tactile surface, its raw resilience, its

rich earthy scent that instills the unforgettable feeling of quality;

for no lack of good reason has leather become the staple materi-

al of the scaffolder. But while developing Altitude we discovered a

profound truth that’s been kept secret for too long and we’re about to

lift the veil:

“Leather products fail. Our research demonstrated conclusively that leath-

er, combined with its constituent fixing methods (rivets, stitching etc.), is

simply not strong enough to meet minimum height safety standards.”

That’s right, this whole time you’ve been one dropped tool away from a burst

rivet, a hole-punched belt loop splitting or an otherwise sturdy stitch ripping

through your anchor point like a knife in butter. You see, our highly principled

destruction testing process (the one we use as an ardent measure of safety that

all Leading Edge products must surpass) damaged every single traditional leather

product design. Every single one. On the first drop…

This shocking realization meant that not only did we have to hit the drawing board, but

that at this point in time not a single leather scaffold product in the entire world was fit-

for-purpose, and we were about to kick start a revolution.

MAKING THE WORLDS FIRST FIT-FOR-PURPOSE SCAFFOLD PPE

REVOLUTION/Ergonomics, compatibility, environmental resistance, durability,

system harmony... These are just some of the qualities it takes

to create the ultimate range of scaffold safety equipment and we

went to extreme lengths to achieve them.

But we had a problem. Our research showed us that leather

was unfit for purpose and all our hard work would be for

nothing if we couldn’t make Altitude strong enough to

exceed minimum PPE safety standards. What we needed

was a revolutionary solution, and we found one.

A triple layer ‘T’ shaped webbing structure with a built in anchor point

creates a frame that is able to absorb and disperse 100% of the dynamic

forces from a dropped tool across its horizontal and vertical bands.

Like a skin, the leather is then applied to the frame in such a way that the

transference of energy from the load-bearing webbing to the outer surface

becomes impossible. This allows the leather to be retained for its non-abrasive

properties while completely eschewing its inherant material weakness. The

result? A PPE powerhouse of hydrid leather and webbing for the modern safety-

conscious scaffolder.

Friction causes a build-up of abrasive particles that degrade your socket head but Taking a moment to lubricate your spanner just once a week will greatly increase its longevity.

DID YOU KNOW?

You might not think a lot goes into the creation of a simple spanner, but

it takes more than a piece of wire wrapped around a socket to make the

ultimate scaffold safety tool. The biggest tethering challenge was the need

for a full 360° range of motion. And not just any kind of motion; snag-free

motion with unrivaled strength and absolutely zero compromise in speed.

To get there we had to invent a new kind of tether: A unique 3mm thick

stainless steel swiveling ring, laser cut and tig welded flush around the base

of the socket head. It’s carefully shaped for enhanced structural integrity

and fluid rotation while simultaneously negating the danger of Karabiner

Rollout. And if you need less obstruction, you can get there via an optional

extension wire that is permanently looped onto the ring with stainless

steel thimbled eyelets.

Making the perfect spanner might have been easy if we stuck to a

universally best-selling configuration — a bi-hex standard box socket

with ergonomic poker handle — but when it comes to a mans tools,
