“Inspiring women to realize their potential.”

Sigma is proud of their very own Sorority Woman of the

Year! This spring, our very own sister, Chelsea Gaylord, was awarded the Helen Reich Scholarship and deemed Sorority Woman of the Year. Chelsea was recognized for her excellence in chapter involvement and outside organizations. She has been a family representative for Dance Marathon for the past three years as well as a Morale Captain Assistant. As a mentor and a trainer for Girls on the Run in Johnson County, she is able to help young girls develop self-respect and guide them to the understanding of a healthy lifestyle. Chelsea works at the North Liberty Recreational Center, the local YMCA, she’s a kickboxing instructor at Farrell’s, and is apart of the Health Ninjas program on campus. All the while, she obtained a 4.0 GPA, the highest of the Sigma Chapter.

Fall and Spring Recruitment was a hit! This year Sigma Chapter proudly initiated 51 new members through the Fall and Spring Recruitment processes. In the fall alone, we reached capacity with 42 beautiful and intelligent women, taking another step in becoming a more successful chapter on the University of Iowa campus. With very generous help from alumnae and our housemother, we welcomed these great women with open arms.

Both the Fall and Spring new members impressed us with their ambition and desire to improve our chapter. The fall initiates quickly became involved within our chapter and on campus. They actively participated in our Homecoming festivities, attended our Dad’s Day celebration, and took on important roles in the chapter, including our Continuous Open Bidding Chair and Recording Secretary. The new women of our Spring recruitment stunned us with an outstanding GPA and campus involvement in activities such as Dance Marathon and Greek Week.

Greek Week Awards Besides the honor of our own sister winning the title of

Sorority Woman of the Year, Sigma Chapter of Alpha Xi Delta proudly won two awards during Greek Week this spring, Excellence in Chapter Management and Operations and

Excellence in Philanthropy and Community Service.

Proud to be an Alpha Xi!

Sigma Chapter is delighted with our success within the chapter, but proudly boasts our success

externally through different organizations. Sigma participated

in Dance Marathon, raising $10,000 for the Pediatric Oncology

Department of the University of Iowa’s Hospital. 16 sisters danced for 24 hours straight in celebration

for those who have fought and lost, those that fought and beat cancer, and those still fighting. One sister of Sigma was even a

morale captain!

Sigma had a multitude of women who partook and even held positions in a variety of organizations including

and not limited to Women in Business, Phi Sigma Pi Honors Fraternity, National Society of

Collegiate Scholars, Alpha Kappa Psi Business Fraternity, Theta Tau

Professional Engineering Fraternity, and Gamma Sigma Alpha Honors

Fraternity.

Sigma is also excited for the 17 smarties who made the Dean’s

List for the Fall semester of 2011 and the 19 who made the Dean’s

List for the Spring Semester of 2012!

Sigma sisters, Madison Glover and Hanna Ralson

took their interest in singing and created the University of Iowa’s newest organization,

Twisted Measures, a mixed a capella group. They have been

listening to auditions and cannot wait to officially start

making music in the fall!

Sigma Gives Back On April 29th, Sigma Chapter held its annual Puzzlepalooza event in honor of our national philanthropy, Autism Speaks. Over 100 Iowa students gathered in our home to play games, win prizes, and eat delicious food. In hopes of raising awareness of Autism, particularly in children, Sigma raised over $4,000. We could not have done it without help from our fabulous alumnae, parents, and local businesses!
