This portfolio is designed to highlight my college and work experience. I have

worked in the food service management area for the last four and half years.

At Northwood University I will obtain my bachelors degree in management

while maintaining a GPA high enough to be on the presidents list.

Narayan!is!another!Hindu!follower,!but!from!a!different!caste.!!He!is!worldly!

and!a!follower!of!Gandhi.!!In!addition!to!his!name,!which!means!The!Supreme!Being,!

the!movie!uses!a!number!of!symbolisms!to!portray!Narayan!as!a!Godly!like!figure.!

The!flute!for!example!is!an!instrument!used!by!Lord!Krishna.!Krishna!is!the!model!of!

divine!love.!!The!divine!love!expresses!itself!by!entering!into!man!and!filling!his!

whole!being.!Therefore!the!flute!is!the!human!heart,!and!a!heart!which!is!made!

hollow!will!become!a!flute!for!the!God!of!love!to!play!upon”!(Site!of!the!International!

Sufi!Movement).!!An!unwed!man!of!his!age!is!a!rarity,!but!he!finds!true!love!in!

Kalyani.!!He!try’s!to!free!Kalyani!of!her!lifestyle!by!showing!her!that!he!has!an!open!

mind!and!that!she!should!as!well.!!He!believes!times!are!changing!and!Kalyani!

believes!him.!!This!is!evident!when!she!states!that!maybe!he!should!be!the!one!who!

decides!which!traditions!should!be!kept!and!which!should!be!not!traditions!should!

not!be!continued.!!It!is!then!that!we!see!that!Kalyani!sees!him!as!more!than!a!man!

but!a!God!like!individual.!Shakuntala!also!sees!him!as!a!savior!when!she!gives!

It!is!believed!that!children!can!see!the!light!in!anyone.!!The!movie!shows!

Chuyia!is!drawn!to!Kalyani.!!These!two,!which!are!the!youngest!of!the!Ashram!that!

we!can!see,!are!also!the!two!in!despair.!!Kalyani,!the!angel,!is!drove!to!prostitution!to!

maintain!her!ashram.!!The!fact!that!the!people!allow!this!shows!the!corruption!of!

Hindu!religion.!!It!also!degrades!its!own!concept!of!widows!remaining!pure!to!their!

husbands!after!death.!!In!addition!to!that!it!also!degrades!the!meaning!of!purity!in!

its!simplest!form,!the!child.!After!Kalyani!commits!suicide!the!“mother”!of!the!

ashram!offers!Chuyia!as!the!prostitute,!corrupting!her!youth.!The!irony!is!that!the!

prostitute!(Kalyani!and!later!Chuyia)!is!the!purest!individual!in!the!ashram.!The!

metaphor!is!that!a!prostitute!is!connected!with!an!opposite,!which!in!this!case!is!an!

angel.!!

In!todays!world!we!have!grown!pass!where!the!movie!left!off.!!Women!now!

can!vote,!make!equal!pay,!can!file!for!divorce,!have!abortions,!choose!their!own!

husband,!and!can!support!families!on!their!own!without!being!looked!down!upon.!!

However,!we!still!struggle!in!many!parts!of!our!country.!!Fundamental!Mormons!still!
