Keyser 34, Allegany 0KEYSER, W.Va. After the first 20:51 of

Campers their first shutout since lateovember 2004 when Joppatowne defeat-

    d Allegany, 30-0, in a Maryland Class 1Asemifinal.

Keyser used a variety of ballcarriers andvariety of receivers in piling up 434 yards

It was the third straight loss for the

    Campers.Junior quarterback Mike McCurdy com-

pleted 6-of-12 passes for 122 yards and alsoran for 86 yards and a pair of touchdownsas St. Albans lifted its record to 4-1 with itsfourth straight victory.

Charles Cato carried the ball 14 times for91 yards and scored the other two touch-downs. The Bulldogs had 188 yards on the

ground and did a good job of controlling theball by taking off most the 25 seconds sec-ond on the time clock on almost every play.

Finding something that wasnt there inthe first half, the Campers went the 98 yardson 13 plays behind some tough running by

junior Madison Wolford, who finished with84 yards on 15 carries.

mentally and well-coached, said Alleganycoach Tom Preaskorn. We played better inthe second half in getting it to 13-8, but theymade the big plays. We improved but arenot playing very intelligently. We have somebig games ahead and have just keep plug-ging to improve.

Allegany had 568 of the yards, 420 on theground and 148 in the air. Frankfort rushedfor 243 and finished with 307, and also gotseveral big kick returns, including a 99-yardkickoff return for a touchdown by ColeSmith.

Weve been working on this all year. We

knew we had some weapons out there andit just finally clicked, said Allegany coachTom Preaskorn of his offense. We got allthe pieces of the puzzle together tonight.

Carter Imes really stepped up, CalmanMcKenzie stepped up and when MadisonWolford got hurt, Christian Thomas came inand played a heck of a ball game, Preasko-rn added. The offensive line performedwell. We knew we had the capabilities.Great group of kids who work hard. Theydidnt quit and they deserve this win.

Allegany scored on 58- and nine-yardtouchdown runs and a 27-yard TD passfrom Imes to McKenzie for a 21-0 lead afterthe first eight minutes.

Calvert 28, Allegany 20CUMBERLAND The Allegany

Campers took a chance by going for twopoints in an attempt to take the lead late inthe game. The attempt failed, but it likelydidnt matter in the end as Calvert quarter-back Jermaine Hunter broke off a 61-yard

touchdown run with 1:53 left in the game togive the Cavaliers a win at Greenway

Avenue Stadium.Hunter also scored on a 90-yard touch-

down run in the first quarter to finish with167 yards on 11 carries. In all, the Cava-liers (3-4) rushed for 311 yards on 37 car-ries in finishing with 327 yards of offense.

The Campers (3-4), who were playingwithout their leading ballcarrier, injuredMadison Wolford, used methodical scoringdrives to stay in the game after fallingbehind 14-0 in the first quarter and had abig game from junior wide receiver Cal-man McKenzie, who caught five passes for66 yards and a touchdown and rushed for48 yards on three carries. He also inter-cepted a pass on defense.

Quarterback Carter Imes completed 7 o13 passes for 91 yards and a touchdown.

After the teams exchanged fumbles tostart the second half, the Cavaliers puttogether an eight-play, 64-yard scoring

drive, putting together a pair of first downsbefore Hunter found Cody Cisco for the 31-

yard touchdown pass, with Hayes kickmaking it 21-7.

The Campers then took over at their 32and put together a 12-play scoring drive otheir own to get right back in it. McKenziepicked up 33 yards on a reverse, Morgan 15on the following play and Imes six on a

We have a pretty good two-point play,

Despite not having a returning first-team Times-News All-Area player for the

first time since the all-star team was estab-lished in 1976 (Ryan Morgan was second-team linebacker and honorable mentionrunning back last season), the Campers doreturn an experienced nucleus an expe-rienced nucleus with talent and a juniorclass that has experienced success at thefreshman and junior varsity levels.

I think we have all the pieces of the puz-

zle, Preaskorn said. We just have to putthat puzzle together, and we slowly are put-ting it together.

Slowly, in part, because of the loss inpractice time due to the state of Mary-lands first-year preseason-practice heatacclimatization policies.

With the limited practice time wevehad because of the heat restrictions, were

a little behind, Preaskorn said, but werefortunate to have experienced players toork with.Experienced players whom Preaskorn

says, have worked really hard in theeight room during the offseason. They

come out motivated ready to listen and

learn.Which is a good thing in the veteran

head coachs eyes since the Allegany play-ers have taken the vow and chugged the

kool-aid to make it personal this season. What I like is the competition on the

practice field, Preaskorn said. We havesome players who have been two-yearstarters, but theyre being pushed by the

junior class. There are a lot of skill kids andgood athletes, but were not handing any-thing out. Theyre going to have to earn it.Theyre going to have to compete, and theyare.

Returning at quarter-back is Carter Imes (6-foot-1, 200 pounds, Sr.),
