Why a municipal general election?

An election for all seatsat the municipal councilmust be held every four years,the first Sunday of Novemberin all Québec municipalities.

In 2021, the election will be held on November 7.

The municipal general electionallows people who have the right to voteto choose the people who will represent them.

These people form the municipal council,which includes the mayorand at least six councillors.

Municipal general election of November 7, 2021

You will vote for one of the candidatesrunning for office.

You will be required to vote for more than one seat in the election,i.e. the seat of mayorand that of one or more councillors.

The role of your returning officer

The returning officer is responsiblefor organizing the electionin your municipality.

Élections Québec supports him or herin his or her duties.

To vote during the municipal general election

• Your name must be entered on the list of electors.

• You must be 18 years of age or older on Election day.

• You must be a Canadian citizen.*

• You must not be under curatorship or have lost your right to vote.*

• You must live in the municipality.*

• You must have been domiciled in Québec for at least six months.*

OR

• If you are not domiciled in the municipality, you must have been the owner of an immovable or occupy a business establishment in the municipality for the past 12 months.*

• on the list of electors at: www.electionsmunicipales.quebec/verify;

• on the information notice from your municipality that you have received, or will soon receive, in the mail.

The municipal general election resultswill be announced by your returning officerafter 8 p.m. on November 7, 2021.

If you want to make a political contribution

In a municipal general election, the maximum amount you can give to each candidate or authorized political party is $200 in the year of the general election.

Make sure to get a receipt for each of your contributions.
