Danish Derby winner Win-ston Sisa, making his French debut, and Archangel Am were early leaders but Apol-lon de Kacy took over as they went up the hill and the pair took up inner positions.

Archangel Am moved out to challenge in the straight and just got up to beat Apollon de Kacy while Winston Sisa put in an eyecatching run for third.

Classic Way who races in the colours or Bold Eagle owner Pierre Pillarski, was the winner of the Group III Prix Joseph Aveline for 4YOs.

Driven by Eric Raffin for Se-bastien Guarato, Classic Way was up handy early as Cap-tain Sparrow towed the field up the hill with Concerto du Ruel moving up to sit parked.

Driven by Dominique Loc-queneux, the odds on favou-rite had to work hard to get to the lead as it changed sever-al times early but he was in firm control as they went up

the rise. Diamanten turned for home a length clear and opened up to win by three lengths from Doberman, who stayed on well for Franck Ni-vard. United Love (Conway Hall) was third.

Trained by Robert Bergh, and unbeaten in eight Swed-ish starts which culminated in the Norlands Elitserie 3YO final, Diamante is by Andover Hall stallion Adrian Chip out

of the former Swedish Group I winner Iata Kall.

FRENCH FACTThe Group I Prix d’Etoile this weekend brings the cream of the 3YO, 4YO and 5YO crops together under handicapped conditions.

It was won last year by 3YO Cristal Money.

The monte equivalent, the Prix des Elites, is held the fol-lowing week.

Canadien d’Am confirmed his heavy favouritism with a win in the Group II monte Prix Ceneri Forcinal on Tuesday.

Trained by Franck Leblanc, the son of Ready Cash, who has been an expensive fail-ure in his last two starts, was kept wide of the peleton by Mathieu Mottier, only moving him close as they rounded the final turn.

Chiricahua (Pomerol de Laumac) held a handy lead as they turned for home, but Mothieu quickly gathered him in as they straightened and he was untroubled to

win by a length from Clara du Pontseiul (Mich Philli).

In the weekend’s big mon-te Dragon de Fresne got the better of Dream Delo in an epic battle for the Group II Prix de Basly for 4YOs.

The winner of the monte classic Group I Prix d’Essai just two starts back, went out second favourite to Se-bastien Guarato’s Dreamer Delo who hit the front in the straight and looked to have the upper hand.

But Dragon du Fresne dug deep and got his head just in front at the line.
