Gloria

The Collect of the Day

Celebrant Almighty God,

People your Son Jesus Christ is the way, the truth, and the life. Give us grace to love one another and walk in the way of his commandments, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

First Reading Acts 7:55-60

But filled with the Holy Spirit, Stephen gazed into heaven and saw the glory of God and Jesus

standing at the right hand of God. ‘Look,’ he said, ‘I see the heavens opened and the Son of

Man standing at the right hand of God!’ But they covered their ears, and with a loud shout all

rushed together against him. Then they dragged him out of the city and began to stone him;

and the witnesses laid their coats at the feet of a young man named Saul. While they were

stoning Stephen, he prayed, ‘Lord Jesus, receive my spirit.’ Then he knelt down and cried out

in a loud voice, ‘Lord, do not hold this sin against them.’ When he had said this, he died.

Psalm 31:1-5, 15-16 I Find My Refuge Tune: St. Anne, CP 528

1. I find my refuge, Lord, in you; 3. Lord, rescue me from secret snares; In justice set me free; You are my strength, my tower; Save me from shame, Lord, hear my prayer, I place my spirit in your hands; Make haste, deliver me. You save me by your power. 2. Be my strong rock, my castle, crag, 4. My times are in your hand, O Lord, To keep my life from harm; Save me from all distress; For your Name’s sake, lead me, O Lord; Let your face shine upon me, save Guide me with your strong arm. Me in your faithfulness. Second Reading 1 Peter 2:2-10

Like newborn infants, long for the pure, spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow into salvation— if indeed you have tasted that the Lord is good.

Come to him, a living stone, though rejected by mortals yet chosen and precious in God’s sight, and like living stones, let yourselves be built into a spiritual house, to be a holy priesthood, to offer spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ. For it stands in scripture: ‘See, I am laying in Zion a stone, a cornerstone chosen and precious; and whoever believes in him will not be put to shame.’ To you then who believe, he is precious; but for those who do not believe, ‘The stone that the builders rejected has become the very head of the corner’, and ‘A stone that makes them stumble, and a rock that makes them fall.’ They stumble because they disobey the word, as they were destined to do.

But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s own people, in order that you may proclaim the mighty acts of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light. Once you were not a people, but now you are God’s people; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.

Gospel John 14:1-14

‘Do not let your hearts be troubled. Believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father’s house there are many dwelling-places. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, so that where I am, there you may be also. And you know the way to the place where I am going.’ Thomas said to him, ‘Lord, we do not know where you are going. How can we know the way?’ Jesus said to him, ‘I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. If you know me, you will know my Father also. From now on you do know him and have seen him.’

Philip said to him, ‘Lord, show us the Father, and we will be satisfied.’ Jesus said to him, ‘Have I been with you all this time, Philip, and you still do not know me? Whoever has seen me has

seen the Father. How can you say, “Show us the Father”? Do you not believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me? The words that I say to you I do not speak on my own; but the Father who dwells in me does his works. Believe me that I am in the Father and the Father is in me; but if you do not, then believe me because of the works themselves. Very truly, I tell you, the one who believes in me will also do the works that I do and, in fact, will do greater works than these, because I am going to the Father. I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If in my name you ask me for anything, I will do it.

Sermon Bishop Donald Phillips

The Apostles Creed Celebrant Let us confess the faith of our baptism, as we say, People I believe in God,

the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth.

I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord. He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again. He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

Prayers of the People

Let us pray to our risen Lord on behalf of the Church, the world, and all people according to their need.

A brief silence Gracious and loving God, we thank you for the gift of your beloved Son, for showing us the Way to you, for being the Truth that sets us free and the Life which raises us out of sin and death. Give us grace to share your love with everyone we meet. Let our lives be examples of living in your ways, of abiding in your truth, and of being transformed by the resurrected life of Jesus. O risen Lord, Arise in us. Lord, you have called us to be living stones, to be your temple, a royal priesthood, held together by the chief cornerstone, the risen Jesus Christ. You have called us out of darkness and into light, to be your redeemed people, your special possession. Empower your universal church to live up to its holy calling, to fully be your presence in this world. O risen Lord, Arise in us. Like Stephen, there are many even today who are persecuted and tortured for proclaiming you as Lord. Give them the grace and strength that you gave Stephen: to fearlessly speak your truth in love; to forgive and pray for their enemies; and to remain faithful to the end. O risen Lord, Arise in us. We thank you for calling to your service everyone in this congregation who supports the ministry of Word and Sacrament through their faithful work. Fill them with your Holy Spirit; prosper all they do to further the proclamation of the Gospel and the care of your people; and give them joy in serving you and your people. O risen Lord, Arise in us. Mothering God, you care for your people as a hen cares for its chicks. We therefore ask your blessing upon mothers, foster mothers, and all who act with a mother’s love. Give them your own patience, steadfastness, tenderness and wisdom. Share your deep gentleness and strong love as they care for their children. O risen Lord, Arise in us. Loving God, we confess that too often our faith is uncertain, our forgiveness too slow, and our compassion wavering. Unlike Stephen, too often we have put our trust in the powers and values of this world, instead of your resurrection power and kingdom values. We confess that we have strayed from your design and will for our lives, and we are deeply sorry. We ask for your compassion and forgiveness. Empower us to be your holy and royal people. O risen Lord, Arise in us.

Healing God, we remember all those suffering from the effects of physical as well as emotional and spiritual distress. We also pray for your blessing on all those in ministries of healing, in our hospitals, in laboratories, in seniors residences, and where ever the pandemic outbreak is being fought. Bless, heal, comfort and sustain everyone who cries out to you for help – especially: {List}. With the Psalmist, cause them to say, “Happy are they who have the God of Jacob for their help; whose hope is in the LORD their God; who keeps his promise forever.” O risen Lord, Arise in us. Lord Jesus, we entrust into your keeping our beloved dead. Give us grace to believe your promise; to grow in holiness; and to encourage, correct, serve and support one another throughout our earthly life. Be for us, and for all whom you love, the Way to your Father’s house; the Truth which sets us free from bondage to sin, evil and death; and the Life which eternally transforms us into your likeness. O risen Lord, Arise in us. Almighty God, fulfil now our prayers and petitions as may be best for us, granting us in this world knowledge of your truth, and in the age to come eternal life; for you, Father, are good and loving, and we glorify you through your Son Jesus Christ our Lord, in the Holy Spirit, now and for ever. Amen. (Prayers prepared by Dietrich Bartel, based on lutherancore.website.) The Peace

Sanctus

Celebrant We give you thanks and praise, loving Father,

because in sending Jesus, your Son, to us you showed us how much you love us. He cares for the poor and the hungry. He suffers with the sick and the rejected. Betrayed and forsaken, he did not strike back but overcame hatred with love. On the cross he defeated the power of sin and death. By raising him from the dead you show us the power of your love to bring new life to all your people.

People Glory to you for ever and ever. Celebrant Gracious God, we celebrate the death and resurrection of Jesus,

and we offer ourselves to you in him. Send your Holy Spirit on us that we may know the presence of Jesus and share in the life of the family of your children.

People Glory to you for ever and ever.

People Glory to you for ever and ever. Amen. Celebrant And now, as our Saviour Christ has taught us,

we are bold to say, All Our Father, who art in heaven,

hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen.

Celebrant God of love,

All we have heard your truth and shared in your life. May we always walk in your way, in the name of Jesus Christ the Lord. Amen.

Notices Prayers from Parishioners: During the coming weeks you may wish to have a loved one’s name added to our Parish Prayer List. This list, which is usually included in the Prayers of the People each week, has now been added to the Cycle of Prayers. (see above) Please be sure to email or call the office if you wish to have names added to this list. The list will be updated on a weekly basis. Diocesan Update: Please continue to follow Bishop Geoff’s most current Directive on the

Diocesan Website. http://www.rupertsland.ca/

Our church office is now closed in response to the directive from the Government of Manitoba.

Catherine will be working from home and is able to respond to email and voice mail from home

during regular business hours. (Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00

Tablets needed!! All Saints parishioners, who are in hospitals and care homes, are lacking the ability

to be able to access our services. Our hope is to give them the tools that they need to access our

Sunday services and website. We would really appreciate it if you could call the church office, should

you have a used tablet that you are willing to loan or donate.

Church Expenses: Unfortunately, the costs associated with running a parish continues, which means

it is important that we try and maintain our weekly offering to the church. The request from both the

Treasurer and Corporation is to reach out to our community and remind them of this ongoing need. If

you would like to be put on preauthorized payments it will make your efforts much more seamless.

We can provide the forms to make this happen. Simply contact the office and someone will get back

to you.

Local Food Banks Need Help: We know that the need for donations to local food banks have

increased and the efforts to provide support is becoming more strained. If you can drop food off to

your local food bank, make a donation, or would like us to assist in delivering items please let us

know.

Need Supplies?: For those of you who are shut in and unable to get out to pick up needed supplies,

please let us know. We have a number of people who have offered to help individuals should anyone

have a need in our community.

Next week’s readings are: Acts 17:22-31; 1 Peter 3:13-22; John 14:15-21
