I. PRAYER: AN OFFENSIVE WEAPON

A. UNDERSTAND THERE IS A WAR AND YOU ARE IN IT

First, we have to understand the only reason we know there is a Spiritual war taking place is because God choose to reveal it to us through the prophets in the Bible. Without the revelation of scripture, we would be blind to this battle. Therefore, to understand this war, we need to see what scripture says, and not rely on our feelings and emotions. Again, understanding the Spiritual War requires revelation from God, so its understandable the world would be skeptical of such a conflict.

1. How do we know there a spiritual war taking place? __________________________________________________________________________________________________________

2. How can we understand this war? _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

3. Why would the world be skeptical of such a conflict? _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Secondly, the Bible tells us, there is an invisible realm, which is distinct from our physical realm. Our physical world is in many ways under the power this spiritual world. Much of the evil in the world is direct result of this unseen war. The number personalities involved in this conflict, are huge, they involve both the forces of Satan composed of fallen angels and of God, along with His angels. This battle is played out in the realm of humanity, the physical world.

4. What is most of the evil in the world the result of? __________________________________________________________________________________________________________

According to scripture, the target of this battle is the souls of humanity, (I Peter 5:8-9), and the battlefield is in mind of humanity, blinding them from the truth, that they perish without salvation.

3But even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are

perishing, 4

whose minds the god of this age has blinded, who

Page 5: ALL MANNER OF PRAYER Prayer: An Offensive Weapon · 2020-01-29 · ALL MANNER OF PRAYER Prayer: An Offensive Weapon “Pray at all times (on every occasion, in every season) in the

do not believe, lest the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ,

who is the image of God, should shine on them. 2 Corinthians

4:3-4

5. What is the target of this battle? _____________________________________________________

This is the conflict raging all around us, as the kingdom of Satan wages war on the kingdom of God, for the souls of humanity. When we come to Christ, we are saved, but God’s program does just not end at our salvation. We now become part of the kingdom of God, opposed to the kingdom of Satan, bringing salvation to the lost. We become an adversary to the god of this age, who has blinded the lost. Understanding, the dynamics of this spiritual world is key, to having victory not only in our life, but also in advancing the kingdom of God, in territory claimed by the enemy.

6. What is the key to having victory in our life and advancing the kingdom of God? _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

7. Why we need to understand Spiritual Warfare?

Have you ever played a game, not knowing or understand the rules? Imagine you are invited to play in a football game, without understanding the rules. You might find yourself asking these questions. What do you do with the ball? Why are these players hitting me? You might find yourself quitting or lying on the ground in agony, not understanding why the other team hit you. This happens in the spiritual realms, when someone comes to Christ, and is born again. Many times the new Christian finds himself/herself in the middle of a war, not understanding the conflict.

a. We need to understand Spiritual Warfare because _________________________________________________________

_________________________________________________________

_________________________________________________________

_________________________________________________________

The purpose of understanding Spiritual Warfare is so that we can understand the dynamics of the conflict, and move forward in victory, rather than lie in defeat. Our goal is to advance the Kingdom of God, take territory from the enemy and bring souls into the kingdom. If we

Page 6: ALL MANNER OF PRAYER Prayer: An Offensive Weapon · 2020-01-29 · ALL MANNER OF PRAYER Prayer: An Offensive Weapon “Pray at all times (on every occasion, in every season) in the

understand how our enemy works, his traps and strategies are less likely to take us by surprise.

8. What is our goal in Spiritual Warfare? _______________________ __________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Satan understands the redeemed (saved) are his mortal enemy. His goal is to remove the advantage of victory they have in Christ, by causing the saved to wallow in bondage and defeat. A defeated Christian is one less enemy Satan has to worry about; one more warrior of the Kingdom of God taken out of commission. Knowing this is Satan’s goal, allows the believer to pursue victory rather than wallow in defeat.

9. What is Satan’s goal? __________________________________ _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

10. How can knowing Satan’s goal help the believer? ____________ __________________________________________________________________________________________________________

We need to understand just how Satan wages war in our lives, and in the lives those around us. If we know his methods, we will then be equipped to disarm, and tear down the strongholds, which cause our constant defeat. Knowing the method of spiritual warfare, allows us to go on the offense, rather than responding from a position of defense and weakness.

11. How does knowing the method of spiritual warfare help us? ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

B. GOD’S ENEMY IS YOUR ENEMY

1. Read James 4:4. How can you become God’s enemy?

___________________________________________________________

___________________________________________________________

___________________________________________________________

___________________________________________________________

Having friendship with the world is talking about a world system that is

godless and anti-Christ. It is fueled by lust and pride.

2. Write out a prayer asking God to help you draw closer to Him and

away from the world system that rejects Him. Ask Him to help you be

clearly aware of the anti-Christ spirit that is in the world today so that you

do not support it in any way.

C. YOU MAY PRAY ALONE BUT YOU DON’T FIGHT ALONE

1. Read Romans 8:26. Who helps us to pray and why?

_____________________________________________________

_____________________________________________________

_____________________________________________________

_____________________________________________________

When we pray as prayer warriors, we are not alone because God

has called people all over the world to pray as well.

advantage of the time we have to pray. A time will come when we wish

we had prayed about something but we have not.

3. Write out a prayer asking God to prompt you when something is

important you should be praying about. Ask Him to give you ears to hear

His call.

H. UNDERSTAND YOUR AUTHORITY IN PRAYER

The enemy will attempt to bombard you with doubt. Some of his favorite

whispered words to your mind will be, “You can’t pray.” “God doesn’t hear your

prayers.” “What makes you think God will listen to you?” “You have no authority

because you are not good enough.” “Your prayers won’t get past the ceiling.”

“God doesn’t answer your prayers.”

These kinds of taunts are an attack strategy from the enemy, but they can be

shut down in an instant when you know without any hesitation who you are in the

Christ and where your authority comes from.

J. KNOW YOUR WEAPONS – PRAYING FOR THE LOST

1. Praying for the Lost

Lifting the veil of unbelief off the unbeliever

a) 2 Corinthians 10:3-5 King James Version (KJV) 3 For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the

flesh:

4 (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but

mighty through God to the pulling down of strongholds;)

5 Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that

exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and

bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of

Christ;

b) 2 Corinthians 10:3-5 TLB (Living Bible)

3 It is true that I am an ordinary, weak human being, but I

don’t use human plans and methods to win my battles.

4 I use God’s mighty weapons, not those made by men, to

knock down the devil’s strongholds.

5 These weapons can break down every proud argument

against God and every wall that can be built to keep men

from finding him. With these weapons I can capture

rebels and bring them back to God and change them into

men whose hearts’ desire is obedience to Christ.

(1) In the context here, Paul is talking about doing it for

someone else (taking every thought captive): this is not

about MIND CONTROL; we are wanting to LIBERATE them,

from Satan’s control: MIND LIBERATION.

Page 15: ALL MANNER OF PRAYER Prayer: An Offensive Weapon · 2020-01-29 · ALL MANNER OF PRAYER Prayer: An Offensive Weapon “Pray at all times (on every occasion, in every season) in the

ALL MANNER OF PRAYER Prayer: An Offensive Weapon

studyintheword.org Page 14

c) “The weapons of our warfare are not carnal” (not those

made by men): it is VERY important to realize that we are not

going to succeed, we won't win the lost, by trying to persuade them

on an earthly level, nagging, “when are you going to change your

ways? Stop drinking/drugs? Go to church? “

(1) When we approach it on a natural level, it gets worse

because of a pride thing. Pride wants to preserve and

protect itself, and says “nobody is going to tell me what to

do!” This is rebellion: you cannot overcome rebellion in a

natural way.

d) “They're mighty through God, to pull down strongholds':

(1) 'mighty' is from 'dunatos' coming from Greek work

'dunamis', same word as the power of the Holy Spirit.

(a) The concept of this word is not just power or

energy or strength, it has the concept of POWER IN

ACTION, power being released.

(b) He is saying, 'that power will be released from

you if you'll do this My way'.

(c) That word is also translated 'miracle', because

this is 'power in action', DOING SOMETHING, it

works a MIRACLE! It means POSSIBLE, because it

means that this is God's POWER coming on the

scene, and the impossible becomes POSSIBLE when

this POWER is released!

(d) God is saying 'What is impossible to you, is

POSSIBLE to Me, I'll work a MIRACLE'.

(e) Sometimes people have a wave of UNBELIEF

through frustration.

(f) Let the Word of God bathe your soul, let the

washing of the water of the Word do its work.

Consciously choose to believe the Word of God. The

Word of God will bring faith to you. Allow the Word of

God to wash the unbelief off of you.

Page 16: ALL MANNER OF PRAYER Prayer: An Offensive Weapon · 2020-01-29 · ALL MANNER OF PRAYER Prayer: An Offensive Weapon “Pray at all times (on every occasion, in every season) in the

ALL MANNER OF PRAYER Prayer: An Offensive Weapon

studyintheword.org Page 15

e) “pull down strongholds”:

(1) Our weapons are going to be empowered by God’s

miraculous power to pull down strongholds.

(2) Greek word 'kathaireo' demolition of something, tear

something down with violence. Also used in biblical times of

'REMOVING SOMEONE FROM OFFICE': that's what we

want, a different Lord, there's someone ruling them, and we

want a new rule, we want Satan removed from office.

f) “Strongholds”:

(a) 'ochýrōma', root of the Greek word is 'to

have/hold', was also a word for 'a prison, a fort, a

fortress'.

(i) The concept is 'a place from which

something or someone can be held in a very

strong way'.

(ii) What Paul is saying is that 'there is a

place in the unbeliever that Satan can operate ,

he holds on to them in a very strong way, they

are in prison/bondage, they can't get out, they

often don't even know they're in prison, they

don't even know they want to get out: they just

know that they want something more than what

they have, there's something missing, they look

for it in materialism, religion, etc. they don't

know what it is.

(b) God's POWER will bring a DEMOLITION to

this PRISON.

g) “Casting down”:

(1) 'Pulling down' in v4 and 'casting down’ in v5, are the

same word. Paul is NOT changing the subject between v4,

'pulling down', and v5 'casting down':

Page 17: ALL MANNER OF PRAYER Prayer: An Offensive Weapon · 2020-01-29 · ALL MANNER OF PRAYER Prayer: An Offensive Weapon “Pray at all times (on every occasion, in every season) in the

ALL MANNER OF PRAYER Prayer: An Offensive Weapon

studyintheword.org Page 16

(2) What he is saying is that 'we have some weapons that

are powerful through God, to demolish strongholds, and v5

'demolishing': i.e. he is going to elaborate on exactly what it

is that we're going to demolish with these powerful weapons:

what he's actually going to do is to break down for you very

clearly, what this STRONGHOLD IS MADE OF.

h) Paul shows us three things that make up the

stronghold:

(1) Imaginations 'logismos':

(a) The Greeks used logismos to describe the

consideration and thought which preceded and

determined one's conduct.

(b) It does not mean 'thoughts', it's much deeper,

it's the 'Source of the thoughts, the Belief System/

Reasoning/ Logic/ Wisdom’. This is, what has been

put in them over time that CAUSES them to think the

way they think: philosophies, isms, intellectualism,

Buddhism, materialism, even wounds of rejection that

has caused the person to think a certain way. This is

the BELIEF SYSTEM / the GRID that everything is

FILTERED through.

(c) When you get information, it first goes through

your subconscious, your memory bank, and before

you think about it consciously, you already have a

deduction about it: that means that, when they hear

the gospel, they don't hear what you hear: they hear

what you hear PLUS what they already believe. It's

filtering through this GRID, 'logismos'

(d) **Ask God to show you what these are e.g.

philosophies, atheism, any belief system that is not

biblical that CONTROLS the way they think.

(i) You may know them well enough to

know what they are or call them’ logismos’ until

God reveals what they are.

Page 18: ALL MANNER OF PRAYER Prayer: An Offensive Weapon · 2020-01-29 · ALL MANNER OF PRAYER Prayer: An Offensive Weapon “Pray at all times (on every occasion, in every season) in the

ALL MANNER OF PRAYER Prayer: An Offensive Weapon

studyintheword.org Page 17

(e) PRAY that according to 2 Cor 10:3-5, ”I have

weapons strong enough to demolish this strong hold,

and, in the name of Jesus, I command you to be torn

down in their mind, to free them, to see the gospel

clearly. I demolish you, strong hold of ____________

that is controlling ______________.”

(2) Every high thing that exalts itself against the

knowledge of God:

(a) ‘High thing' is Greek word, ‘hupsoma’ which

goes back to PRIDE: it's the same root word for 'Most

High God', it doesn't want to bow the knee

(b) Pray: “According to 2 Cor 10:3-5, I have

weapons that are strong enough in God, to demolish

the strong hold of PRIDE. I take dominion and

authority over you and I loose __________ from this

root of pride, in Jesus name I demolish it''

(c) Don't go against it directly in them. Go to your

prayer closet and do it in prayer.

(3) 'Bringing into captivity every thought':

(a) 'Thought' here is 'noéma': it is more than the

scattered thoughts of the mind. It also means

SCHEME/ PLANS/ DEVICES

(b) Pray: “According to 2 Cor 10:3-5, I now use the

weapons that God has given to me, in the power of

the Holy Spirit being released, I take authority over

every thought the enemy tries to send to _______,

every reason, very excuse, every strategy and plan

that you have, to keep _______ blinded to the Truth, I

say 'No' to it, I demolish that now, in Jesus Name”

(c) We are cutting off every strategy of the enemy,

every plan: abuse, rejections, he has been

successfully orchestrating against them

Page 19: ALL MANNER OF PRAYER Prayer: An Offensive Weapon · 2020-01-29 · ALL MANNER OF PRAYER Prayer: An Offensive Weapon “Pray at all times (on every occasion, in every season) in the

studyintheword.org Page 18

(d) SCHEMES/ STRATEGIES, I say 'I capture

that, and it won't work against them anymore. By faith,

I stand between them and you'. Bring it into the

obedience of Christ'.

(e) 'Obedience' in Greek means to 'hear under', I

'hear it and I choose to bring myself under it, I will

obey it'.

(i) What Paul is saying is 'We're going to

capture the thoughts, the schemes, the plans

of the enemy, and we're going to release them

(the lost) to hear and understand what God is

saying, and come under that'.

2. We may also need to do this for believers who are struggling

with strongholds
