Introduction
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Front Line Demonstration is a proven extension mechanism with the objectives of
demonstrating the usefulness of the latest improved crop production and protection technologies
to the farmers as well as extension workers with a view to reduce the time gap between
technology generation and its adoption. It also enables the scientists to obtain direct feedback
from cotton farmers and suitably reorient their research programs, develop appropriate
technology packages and to create effective linkage among scientists, extension personnel and
farmers. This novel programme was implemented in 1996-97 for cotton crop to demonstrate
cotton production technologies through the net working centres of All India Coordinated
Research Project (AICRP) on Cotton. Since then AICRP on cotton has been conducting FLD on
cotton through its network centers and by the Central Institute for Cotton Research, Nagpur and
its regional stations in Coimbatore and Sirsa. Until 2013, these demonstrations were conducted
on Production Technology, Integrated Pest Management and on Farm implements under
Technology Mission on Cotton, Mini Mission II. During the year 2015-16, under national Food
Security Mission on Cotton (NFSM) – Commercial Crops, the FLDs were conducted with the
following objectives.
Objectives
To demonstrate the usefulness of the latest improved crop production and protection
technologies to the farmers as well as extension workers with a view to reduce the time
gap between technology generation and its adoption.
To enable scientists to obtain direct feedback from cotton farmers and suitably reorient
their research programmes and develop appropriate technology packages.
To create effective linkage among scientists, extension personnel and farmers.
Implementing Agencies and Fund Flow Mechanism
In 12th
Five Year Plan under the National Food Security Mission (NFSM), cropping
system approach is being adopted by including commercial crops like cotton to meet the demand
of both food and cash crops. In general, cotton is cultivated under different cropping system i.e.,
mono-cropping, mixed cropping, relay cropping, intercropping and rotation or sequence
cropping in India (Table 1). The common traditional practice adopted in cultivation of cotton in
central and south India is strip cropping i.e., one or two rows of pigeon pea, three to five rows of
6 FLD Annual Report 2015-16
finger millet after every eight to ten rows of cotton. Hence to increase the production of cotton
without affecting the production of food crops, FLDs were planned to conduct in three different
ways viz., FLDs on Integrated Crop Management on Cotton (ICM), FLDs on Desi cotton, Extra
Long Staple (ELS) cotton and seed production of ELS and FLDs on intercropping in cotton.

Climate and its Effects on Cotton Crop
The weather during the report period was dry initially and mostly humid during monsoon
period. Light to medium rainfall in isolated patches throughout the cotton growing area during
sowing period resulted in crust formation and hence forced some of the farmers to re sow the
cotton. During 2015, a total of 506.1 mm rainfall was received in 28 rainy days at Regional
Research Station, Faridkot. The maximum rainfall of 321.6 mm was recorded during crucial
flowering and fruiting period i.e., July to September. Highest rainfall occurred during month of
July followed by June and August.
Scenario of Insect Pests and Diseases
Whitefly remained most serious threat to cotton in Punjab resulting in huge economic
losses to cotton crop. However the incidence of CLCuD was medium to high. Thrips and cotton
leaf hopper (jassid) have also emerged demanding attention in the era of Bt cotton. The current
season also witnessed heavy incidence of thrips in some cotton pockets of the state. In context to
bollworms, there was no serious incidence of the complex as more than 95 percent area was
under Bt cotton (BGII).
Front Line Demonstrations on ICM in Cotton
During the year 2015-16, the centre had conducted twenty demonstrations on cotton ICM
in 50 farmers’ fields. The technologies demonstrated under ICM were time of sowing, optimal
plant population, balanced nutrition, weed management and High Density Planting System. The
varieties/ hybrids demonstrated were F 2228, LH-2076, LH-2108 and F 2383. These genotypes
performed well under FLD and yielded 1033 kg/ha, 875 kg/ha, 1232 kg/ha, 681 kg/ha
respectively as average seed cotton yield. The range of increase in yield was 22, 12, 15 and 23
percent as compared to regular farmers’ practices. The demonstrations were super imposed with
the agronomic practices i.e., optimum plant population, balanced nutrition, weed control and
time of sowing.
19 FLD Annual Report 2015-16
Front Line Demonstrations on Desi / ELS/ Seed production of ELS cotton
A total of twenty demonstrations were conducted with LD 327, LD 694, FDK 124 and
FMDH 9 cultivars in 22 farmers’ fields. The demonstrations yielded an average seed cotton
yield of 2091 kg/ha, 2046 kg/ha, 1395 kg/ha and 1518 kg/ha respectively as against the farmers’
practices (1791, 1800, 1193 and 1311 kg/ha). An average yield increase of 17 per cent, 14 per
cent and 16 per cent was recorded in these demonstrations as against their counterparts.

Climate and its Effects on Cotton Crop
During the Kharif 2015 crop season, monsoon onset was on time and few heavy rain
events were recorded in the month of April and June. In the month of May maximum
temperature of 40.4 o
C was recorded whereas in the month of June it was 38.2 oC. During
flowering and fruiting stage (July to September) the total rainfall received was 230.7 mm as
compare to normal 299.8 mm.
Scenario of Insect Pests and Diseases
Initial crop growth was very good and plant stand in almost all the cotton growing areas
was excellent. During the second fortnight of June due to heavy rainfall the incidences of
whitefly was severe. By the end of July, the population of whitefly crossed ETL in most of the
major cotton growing areas. Simultaneously incidence of Cotton leaf curl virus disease also
increased. Whitefly population coupled with CLCuD with less rainfall during flowering and
fruiting stage resulted into less boll formation and poor yields.
Front Line Demonstrations on ICM in Cotton
A total number of 20 demonstrations (50 farmers) on different Bt cotton hybrids and
variety H 1098-I were carried out to popularize the improved cotton cultivation. It was observed
20 FLD Annual Report 2015-16
that Ramniwas s/o Diwan SinghVillage Dariyapur, Bhiwani picked the highest seed cotton yield
of 2800 kg/ha followed by Satbir S/o Mahavir Village Sanwar, Bhiwani (2700 kg/ha). The
average yield of Bt cotton hybrid with improved technology was recorded (1273 kg/ha) as
compared to local check (1156.4 kg/ha) which was 10.12 per cent increase over farmer’s
practices.
Front Line Demonstrations on Desi / ELS/ Seed production of ELS cotton
Twenty demonstrations of desi cotton were carried out at 50 farmers’ fields in different
villages with the objectives i.e., to popularize high yielding and non shedding desi cotton
varieties, to minimize the infestation of whitefly, to minimize the number of insecticidal sprays,
to minimize the inoculums of CLCuD and to popularize the suitable varieties for the cotton-
wheat cropping system. The highest seed cotton yield of desi cotton was picked by Shri. Vikram
Singh S/o Smasher Sarpanch, Village Dohana Khera, Jind (3100 kg/ha) followed by Shri.
Sadhuram S/o Mange Ram Village Bandaheri, Hisar (2700 kg/ha). In these demonstrations, 7.37
per cent higher seed cotton yield was recorded as compared to the local farmer’s practices.

days during the crop season. The overall crop conditions of the FLDs were satisfactory. The
season witnessed a scanty rainfall and it was below normal. The hot and humid conditions and
scarcity of rainfall favored incidence of whitefly during 2015-16.
Scenario of Insect pests and diseases
In G arboreum cotton the population of whitefly, leafhopper and thrips was recorded
comparatively lesser than the American cotton. The population of whitefly varied between 5.30
to 22.33 adults per 3 leaves in G arboreum cotton. Average population of whitefly on G
arboreum cotton was 9.73 adults per 3 leaves. In general in G hirsutum cotton, the average
population (16.82/3leaves) of whitefly was recorded throughout the season and the maximum
(50.58/3leaves) population was noticed in 30th
SMW. The average population of leaf- hopper
throughout the season was recorded 1.60/3 leaves but its maximum population (5.14 / 3 leaves)
was noticed in 31st SMW. The average population of thrips recorded throughout the season was
9.48 / 3 leaves but its maximum population (37.36 / 3 leaves) was noticed in 29th
SMW. Desi
cottons are immune to Cotton leaf curl virus disease. The incidence of bacterial blight and fungal
foliar pathogens was not observed. The incidence of root rot was also negligible.
Front Line Demonstrations on ICM in Cotton
A total of five FLDs of CSH-3129 were condcuted in 12 farmerss fields’ udner organic
condition. Inputs were given to them as like other farmers, but they used only indoneem for
spray (2-3 times). Their seed cotton yield were very low due to epidemic incidence of white fly
and ranged from 300 to 750Kg/ha and for other farmers yield ranged from 625 to 1500Kg/ha. In
the current crop season due to attack of white fly, there was considerable reduction in yield.

Climate and its Effects on Cotton Crop
At Bharuch, the monsoon was started with 93.2 mm rain during second week of June-
2015. Sowing of cotton was completed during the third week of June. An amount of 64.3 mm
rain in third and fourth week of June helped cotton crop to have good germination. In the first
week of July rain was less, hence there was adverse effect on germinated crop. In some parts re-
sowing was carried out during the end of July. Sowing was delayed, but it was completed during
first week of August. The germination was quite satisfactory and plant populations were
maintained by proper gap filling. There was only 40.2 mm precipitation received during the
23 FLD Annual Report 2015-16
period of 30th
July to 18th
September (51 days), may be considered as dry spell for rain fed
condition. The crop was recovered after receiving of 115.6 mm rain in third week of September
and then there was no rain. In total, 444.8 mm rainfall was received in 29 rainy days. The
rainfall of current year was nearly half than previous year i.e., 849.7 mm in 37 days in the season
of 2014-15 and one fourth compared to the season of 2013-14 i.e., 1465 mm in 67 days. Timely
adoption of cultural operations and plant protection measures resulted in better crop condition.
Scenario of Insect pests and diseases
In early stage of crop, the incidence of thrips was found to above threshold level and was
upto end of September. Jassids infestation was observed throughout the season and crossed
threshold level many times. Population of whitefly was low to moderate, whereas aphids and
mealybug were moderate to high during later stage of crop. Among bollworms, Helicoverpa and
Earias were moderate to high on non Bt and desi cotton. The population of pink boll worm was
higher during October and onwards in all the species of cotton including Bt. No severe diseases
observed during the crop season.
Front Line Demonstrations on ICM in Cotton
The centre had conducted 10 front line demonstrations under ICM in cotton in 25
farmers’ fields. The technology includes INM (25% organic + 75% RDF along with biofertilizers
(PSB, Azotobacter & KMB), foliar nutrition during flowering through KNO3 and synchronizing
maturity through ethylene spray. IPM includes refuge incorporation, interspersing ecofeast crops
like maize or sorghum, spraying of neem based pesticides and insect growth regulators in the
initial window and application of insecticides based on ETL & MoA group insecticide rotations
with eco-safety. For Integrated weed and water management, border cleanliness, pre-emergence
and post application of herbicides, interculturing, ridge and furrow method of sowing and
alternate furrow irrigation or drip implementation were adopted. These demonstrations gave an
average seed cotton yield of 2483 kg/ha as against 2199 kg/ha (Farmers’ practice).
Front Line Demonstrations on Desi / ELS/ Seed production of ELS cotton
Ten demonstrations were conducted on desi cotton in 25 farmers’ fields. The desi cotton
variety released by Regional Cotton Research Station, Bharuch viz., GN Cot. 25 during the year
2012-13 was found superior for boll weight and had 12 to 20 per cent higher seed cotton yield
compared to local check. Seed production of this variety was highly preferred by the farmers. An
average of 839 Kg/ha seed cotton yield was produced per hectare.
24 FLD Annual Report 2015-16
Front Line Demonstrations on Intercropping in cotton
The centre had conducted 10 front line demonstrations under intercropping in cotton in
25 farmers’ fields. Cotton, deep rooted longer duration crop, was sown at spacing of 120x45 cm
with shallow rooted short duration pulse crops like soyabean, green gram, Indian bean, seasame,
black gram especially in rainfed region as well as well in well drained irrigated soils.
Intercropping was followed at 1:2 ratio. Additional nutrition was provided to inter crop. The
average seed cotton yield obtained was 1237 kg/ha along with 129 kg /ha intercrop yield.

Climate and its Effects on Cotton Crop
The total rainfall received during kharif 2015 season at Cotton Research Station, Nanded
was 547.8 mm (June - December, 2015) as against average rainfall of 862.7 mm. Thus 314.9 mm
(36.50%) rainfall was deficit against the average of the station. The rainfall was distributed with
31 rainy days during the season which was about 12 rainy days less than average (43.05). As
regard to monthly distribution of rainfall, deficit rains were received during all the months except
June.
The season was started in 24th
meteorological week (second week of June) and rains
received in first fortnight of June facilitated sowing of cotton demonstrations in 24th
MW and
onwards. Intermittent rains in 25th
MW in June after sowing were helpful for satisfactory
germination which resulted in good plant stand of crop.
The dry spell from 26th
- 29th
MW in August during initial vegetative period ahd reduced
the growth of crop. However, rains received in mid August were helpful for vegetative growth
and flowering. Cessation of rains from 39th
MW (fourth week of September) has affected the
reproductive growth.
Scenario of Insect pests and diseases
The incidence of sucking pests was moderate to high and bollworm incidence was
moderate to severe. The incidence of thrips was observed throughout the season and thrips
crossed ETL during 31st to 33
rd MW. The pink bollworm incidence was severe from 46
th MW
(28%).
Incidence of Alternaria was found during 34th
MW with intensity of 2.00 to 19.00 PDI,
bacterial blight during 38th
MW in range of 1.50 to 7.25 PDI. The incidence of parawitlt was
observed upto 3.00 PDI during 32nd
- 35th
MW.
Front Line Demonstrations on ICM in Cotton

Climate and its Effects on Cotton Crop
The total rainfall received at Mahatma Phule Krishi Vidyapeeth, Rahuri was only 380
mm in 33 rainy days as against average rainfall of 535 mm which was about 29 per cent less.
There were almost no rains up to 26th
MW (25th
June) to 35th
MW (31st Oct) in most parts of
cotton growing areas and hence sowing was done with available water. The sowing of Bt cotton
was also delayed in most of the cotton growing tract. Due to water stress during the growth
period of the crop, yield was reduced. Moreover, the climatic conditions during the season
favored the incidence of sucking pests particularly aphid, jassid, thrip and white fly. High
incidence of para wilt was observed on irrigated cotton in Sangali and Solapur districts as the
30 FLD Annual Report 2015-16
average temperature in the month of April and May was nearly 37- 40 degree celcius coupled
with moisture stress conditions.
The sowing of summer irrigated cotton was done from second fortnight of May on
research farm. However, at farmers’ fields sowing was done from second fortnight of May to
first fortnight of June, after the onset of monsoon. During crop growth period, at central campus
the average maximum temperature, minimum temperature was 32.9 and 18.9respectively and the
relative humidity was 61% and 39% respectively for morning and evening.
Scenario of Insect Pests and Diseases
The population dynamics study revealed that the population of jassids varied from 0.14 to
12.16/3 leaves during the season with the peak in 32nd
MW. The incidence of aphids ranged
from 0.56 to 106.90/3 leaves during the season with its peak in 48th
MW. The population of
thrips varied from 0.18 to 45.84/3leaves and peaked in 31st MW. Whitefly population ranged
from 0.62 to 16.87/3 leaves during the season with the peak in 45th
MW. The infestation of
mealy bugs was not observed throughout the season. The infestation Heliothis armigera on green
bolls varied from 1.82 to 15.36 per cent during the season and the larval population were 0.64 to
1.43 larvae/ 5 plants. The incidence of E. vittella on squares/green bolls ranged from 4.50 and
10.90 percent and 0.31 to 1.46 larvae/ 5 plants. The infestation of P. gossypiella larvae was 0.56
to 55.0 / 20 green boll and also in open bolls on boll basis and locule basis were 17.67 and 8.65
per cent, respectively. The population of natural enemies in cotton ecosystem varied from 0.28
to 2.78 predators / plant during the season.
Alternaria blight was the major disease observed during the year. First incidence of the
disease was noticed on 20th July (29th
MW) on research farm. The disease progressed at slower
rate and maximum of 20.7 % intensity was recorded in 38th
MW. The incidence of TSV was
almost negligible (only upto 5%) during the season.
Front Line Demonstrations on ICM in Cotton
During the year, the centre had conducted ten demonstrations on ICM in an area of 10
hectares in 25 farmers’ fields. The average seed cotton yield obtained in FLDs on ICM was
2291 kg/ha as against the farmers’ practice (1809 kg/ha).

Central Institute for Cotton Research, Nagpur
Climate and its Effects on Cotton Crop
It was noticed that there was timely onset of monsoon during first week of June resulting
in sowing of soybean, cotton and other kharif crops in the area. On 20th
June 2015, there was
heavy and continuous rainfall and hence in most of the farmers’ fields sowing of cotton crop was
delayed. The crops sown before 20th
June, in the cotton cotton-soyabean/mung intercropping
system was affected. After that there were no rains until 23rd
July resulting in a prolonged dry
spell of about 45 days. As a result most of the crops have dried and farmers have to re-sow their
crops during last week of July to first week of August. The situation was again worsened due to
another dry spell of about 25 days when there were no rains till 1st September. There were
frequent and prolonged dry spells intermittently which has resulted in crop failures and re-
sowing in most of the areas. The rainfall was too erratic due to which farmers have suffered a
great loss. There was second flush in the month of December. Climate in December was hot
and humid but sudden drop of temperature during last week of December to first fortnight of
January damaged standing crop heavily due to cold wave conditions. Cotton + soyabean
intercrop also suffered heavily. Prolonged hot-dry spell, variation in temperature and nutrients
imbalance resulted in leaf reddening and wilting. Farmers have noticed Yellowing of leaves
followed by leaf-reddening and finally drying of leaves.
32 FLD Annual Report 2015-16
Scenario of Insect Pests and Diseases
There was heavy attack of incidence of sucking pests i.e., aphids and jassids during initial
period and also during square formation. The incidence of white fly was normal and the
incidence of bollworms in cotton and Semilooper in Soybean was negligible.
Front Line Demonstrations on ICM in Cotton
During the year, the centre had conducted 17 demonstrations on ICM in cotton variety
Suraj in an area of 16.4 hectares in 41 farmers’ fields. The average yield obtained in FLDs on
ICM was 717 kg/ha as against the farmers’ practice 681 kg/ha
Front Line Demonstrations on Desi / ELS/ Seed production of ELS cotton
During the year, the centre had conducted 7 demonstrations on Desi varieties Phule
Dhanwantri and Roja in an area of 6.4 hectares in 17 farmers’ fields. The average yield obtained
in FLDs on Desi cotton was 1013 kg/ha as against the farmers’ practice 808 kg/ha.
Front Line Demonstrations on Intercropping in cotton
Four demonstrations on intercropping in cotton was conducted in area of 3.6 hectares in 9
farmers’ fields resulted in yielding an average seed cotton yield of 910 kg/ha as against the

Climate and its Effects on Cotton Crop
Total rainfall received up to the end of December 2015 was 642.1 mm as against the average
normal of 742.0 mm. There was deficit of 99.9 mm rainfall (13.5 % deficit). The rainfall was
deficit during the months of April, June, July, August and September and excess during May and
33 FLD Annual Report 2015-16
October as compared to the average normal rainfall during these months. Rainfall received
during April and May helped for land preparation. Rainfall received during the second fortnight
of June helped sowing of cotton in all the demonstrations. The sowing was completed during the
month of June. The crop stand was satisfactory in all the demosntrations. There was deficit
rainfall during June, July, August and September months amounting to 195.8 mm as compared to
the normal rainfall which hampered the growth and development of the crop in all the
demonstrations. Crop growth was stunted due to severe moisture stress. Rainfall received
during first week of September saved the crop in all the fields. Increased sucking pests incidence
was noticed during October to December in all the demosntraitons and suitable protection
measures were taken.
Scenario of Insect Pests and Diseases
The Roving survey to know status of cotton pests was undertaken in major cotton
growing districts of northern Karnataka during 2015-16. During early crop stage, incidence of
shoot weevil was noticed to the tune of 37 to 69 per cent in almost all cotton growing areas. The
farmers were suggested to go for Bhendi as trap as well as mechanical collection and killing of
grubs during early morning. Among the incidence of sucking pests, thrips was sever during
September due to dry spell and pest had crossed ETL for four times with a level of infestation of
35-200 per three leaves. Further, the incidence of leafhopper was persisting at higher level (9-33
leafhoppers/ three leaves) from September to November and pest load was above ETL
throughout the cropping period. Farmers were struggling to protect the crop from leafhoppers
and relied much upon new chemistry like flonicamid and dinotefuron. Many farmers applied
imidacloprid (17.8 SL and 70 WG). The incidence of Aphid was not severe at time. The
incidence of mirid bugs (8-35 bugs/25 squares) and flowerbud maggots (5-25%.) was moderate
to severe during October / November months, however these pests were kept under check by
effective chemical control. Only couple of instances of whitefly incidence was noticed in late
sown irrigated crops when it was about to harvest. Triazophos, Ethion, Spiromecifen were
recommended to the farmers. The incidence of PBW was noticed during harvesting of the crop,
but, there was no bad opening of the bolls. After complete harvesting, 75-125 larvae / 100 bolls
of PBW have been recovered from the green bolls in Jan/Feb months.
34 FLD Annual Report 2015-16
The alternaria leaf blight was observed at early stage of crop growth in moderate form.
This year less incidence of Bacterial blight was observed compared to the previous years. The
grey mildew was observed in severe form on G arborium cotton and moderate form on G
hirsutum type. At later stage of the crop growth the rust incidence was severe irrespective of
genotypes.
Front Line Demonstrations on ICM in Cotton
The average seed cotton yiled of all ten FLDs under ICM was 2376 kg/ha as compared to
the average seed cotton yield of 2170 kg/ha obtained with farmers practice which is about 8.7 per
cent higher under ICM. The average additional Net profit under ICM was Rs. 6,938/ha with a
B:C ratio of 2.25 which was about 13.2 per cent higher as compared to the net profit obtained
with farmers practice.
Front Line Demonstrations on Desi / ELS/ Seed production of ELS cotton
The average seed cotton yield of all 25 FLDs of DDhc-11 was 790 kg/ha as compared to
the average seed cotton yield of 508 kg/ha obtained with Jayadhar variety which was about 35.7
per cent higher with DDHC-11. The net profit with DDHC-11 was about 52 per cent higher as
compared to the net profit obtained with the check variety Jaydhar with a B:C ratio of 1.87. The
average additional Net profit with DDhc-11 was Rs. 7605/ha. The yield levels were low in both
the varieties due to low rainfall at these locations during the cropping season.
The average seed cotton yield of all six FLDs of DHH-263 was 805 kg/ha as compared to
the average seed cotton yiled of 610 kg/ha obtained with DHH-11 which was about 24 per cent
higher with DHH-263. The net profit with DHH-263 was 75 per cent higher as compared to the
net profit obtained with the check hybrid DHH-11 with a B:C ratio of 1.26. The average
additional net profit with DHH-263 was Rs. 5265/ha. The yield levels were low in both the
hybrids due to low rainfall at these locations during the cropping season.
Front Line Demonstrations on Intercropping in cotton
Fifteen FLDs were undertaken on the intercropping systems in Bt cotton compared with
the farmers practice of sole Bt cotton. Five FLDs each were with Bt Cotton + Groundnut (1:1),

The region experienced harsh climate resulting in the State Government declaring the
region as drought prone area during both the seasons, Kharif and Rabi 2015-16. The rainfall
received during June, July and August months were very low (100 per cent less than the normal
rainfall). The rainfed cotton grown in the region suffered from moisture stress in the beginning
as well as later phases of the crop growth.
Scenario of Insect Pests and Diseases
The major outbreak of insect pest was pink boll worm in cotton. Several Bt cotton
farmers field visits as per the diagnostic point of view, revealed about 40-50 percent losses due
36 FLD Annual Report 2015-16
to pink boll worm in rain fed areas and about 60-70 per cent loss was noticed in irrigated. The
other major pest outbreak was incidence Mrid bug in major areas causing major damage through
boll drop.
Front Line Demonstrations on ICM in Cotton
During the year a total of 25 FLDs on ICM in cotton was conducted by the centre in
Ballari and Raichur districts. On average the FLD farmers obtained an additional profit of

Climate and its Effects on Cotton Crop
During the year the centre received 893.30 mm rain fall with 60 rainy days as against
normal rain fall of 692.60 mm that is 28.9% more than normal rainfall but the distribution was
erratic & uneven which affected the time of sowing, growth and seed cotton yield. Except in the
month of July the remaining months received rainfall more than normal. The lowest rainfall was
recorded in the month of October (52%) and the highest rainfall was in the month of November
(188%). This affected the growth of the crop with severe incidence of Verticelium & Fusarium
Wilt and Alternaria leaf blight which resulted in more than 50% reduction in kapas yield.
37 FLD Annual Report 2015-16
During the year 40-50% Kapas yield reduction was observed in farmers field both in
demonstration & Framers practices due to shortage of rain fall (52% less than Normal) in the
initial crop growth stage (October) which affected the crop growth. Heavy rain fall in the month
of November (188% more than Normal) causesd severe incidence of Verticellium & Fuzarium
wilt & Bacterial Leaf blight which lead to stunted growth, droping of squares & bolls.
Scenario of Insect pests and diseases
Majority of the farmers expressed problem of leaf reddening, damage of sucking pests
(leaf curling), squares and boll shedding etc., The incidence of bollworm was not expressed by
majority of the farmers because of 100% area was under double BG-2 cotton cultivars.
Front Line Demonstrations on ICM in Cotton
