NEWSLETTER ALKIMOS BAPTIST COLLEGE Dear Parents, Students, Families and Friends, Welcome back to Term 3. What an incredible Term 2 we had. Annie was amazing! Reports and exams are completed for Semester 1 and 20 students finished the semester by going on a Ski Trip to Jindabyne New South Wales. But the activities don’t stop there. Our Secondary Students are gearing up for Kulture on Friday 12 th of August. They would love to invite all the families of Alkimos Baptist College to come and be apart of this amazing event. Our Primary School is busy preparing for Book Week next week, Night of the notables in a few weeks time and the Zoo sleep over at the end of the term. Along with a few Athletics Carnivals, Duathlon, Science Week, History week and Mathematics Week,. This term is set to be just as busy and enjoyable as the last. Over the break I had a great chance to reflect on Alkimos Baptist College and who we are as a community. Our College does some amazing work with the students in our care. Our caring, nurturing environment allow students the opportunity to feel at home when they are here. Our numbers allow for our students the opportunity to be involved in activities and events that may be denied to them at other schools. Our teachers bring out the best in our students. It is a place that I value and love to come to work at each day. I believe that God is in control of our College and actively working to bring out the best of all our students, teachers and families. SWIMMING LESSONS

Swimming Lessons will be held from Monday 29th August to Friday 9th September daily. All students

from Pre Primary to Year 6 will be participating . The lessons are held at Joondalup Arena. A letter has

been sent to all families regarding the swimming lesson procedures.

Please ensure that you have an up to date copy of the Term 3 planner so that you are aware of the

events coming up for this term. Extra copies are available from the College office

PARENTS, CARERS AND VISITORS

Please note that it is important to report to the College Office if you need to pick your child up, drop

anything off or make contact with them. For security reasons we cannot have visitors walking around the

school. Any forgotten lunches or item will be delivered by the staff to your child's classroom.

ABSENTEES

Please ensure that you contact the College on 9406 8189 in the event of any unexpected absences,

sickness or late arrivals that necessitates your child being away from the College for the day or for any

length of time. A written note regarding their absence needs to accompany your child and be handed

into the College Office upon their return. A medical certificate may be required to explain prolonged

absences.

Junior Primary News

Pre Primary Rainforest Diorama

During Term 2 our theme in Pre Primary was The Rainforest.

We got to learn about all the beautiful animals there and the medicinal plants that grow there.

We know that rainforests are the lungs of our earth and that they are very important for our survival.

To end the term off with we created some beautiful rainforest dioramas.

STRAVENS’ SPORTS SPOT

Lunchtime Sport: Congratulations to the Whipping Nae Nae’s who won this week’s netball grand final. In an enthralling contest they held on to win 3 - 2 in what was an incredibly well played match. Well done to all students who participated in this sport. Next week students will have the opportunity to sign up for modified AFL for this terms lunchtime sport.

Duathlon Training:

Well done to all students in Year 3 - 6 who began their Duathlon training this week. It was great to see you out on your bikes and scooters enjoying being physically active and being outdoors. Students will have two more trainings days before the August 16th event. More details about the event times will be released closer to the day.

Morning Training Club Monday Morning Training Club will resume this coming Monday the 1st of August. We will be starting to focus on preparing for term 4 interschool athletics. All students from Year 2 - 6 are encouraged to attend to improve speed, skills and endurance. Training will begin at 7:30 and run until 8:10. These sessions have provided incredibly beneficial to help our squads prepare for interschool events.

In Term 3 we are celebrating Book Week in Week 3, Monday 1st August to Friday 7th August.

The Book Week theme for 2016 is Australia!

As part of our celebrations we have planned the following events:

The Book Fair!

This is a stall from Scholastic Books, where students may purchase quality books, posters and

novelties. The Book Fair will operate at the back of the College Hall on Tuesday 2nd August and

Wednesday 3rd August from 8.15 - 9.00am and 2.30 - 3.30pm.

Book Week Dress Up

Students will need to come dressed as their favourite Book Character on Wednesday 3rd

August. Please do not allow children to wear scary costumes or inappropriate ‘skimpy’ outfits as

costumes. Comfortable, sensible costumes and clothing only please. A best dressed gift voucher

will also be given to a student from each class to be used at the book fair.

Colouring in Competition

The colouring in competition will be announced on Wednesday 3rd August for the best

decorated Boomerang with a student from Lower & Upper primary winning a gift voucher to use

at the Book Fair.

Book Week Stories

Teachers will be going around and visiting each classroom to read their favourite stories to the

students.
