From being a great sinner to being one of our historys greatest saints, Augustine shows how thepower of Gods grace and love has the capacity to move hearts and change lives.

This same grace and love of God is the power that we need to change the face of the earth. If we

want to improve our lives, if we want to strengthen the unity of and deepen the love in our families, ifwe want to live in a better world, the only way is to open ourselves to God, allow His grace to work onus and His love to change us, just like what He did to Augustine.

It is my prayer that every family in the Parish of St. Augustine in Bay, Laguna develop a deepdevotion to your patron saint. And like St. Augustine may you experience the love of God in your parishcommunity, in your neighborhood and in your families, a love that transforms, empowers, unites andheals.

We, The Bishop of San Pablo, are pleased to know that the Parish of Saint Augustine in the town of Bay haslaunched Pamilyang Namimintuho kay San Agustin, a project that will promote devotion to the Patron Saintof your 432-year old Parish.

Devotions to the saints are external practices that manifest the particular relationship of the faithful withthe Saints in their conguration with Christ or in their role in the Churchs life (Directory on Popular Piety and theLithurgy, 8). These practices help you to look upon these men once sinful, but have struggled and succeeded

in living up the examples of Jesus with a great desire to imitate the path they have taken towards holiness.Their images remind you that you, too,, sinners that you are, are also capable of doing good and of strivingto become saints.

My dear sons and daughters, like Saint Augustine, you can also become saints! You can also be holy!

The devotion that you will promote in honor of your Patron is the start of living well. It is the start of seekingthe highest Good God.
