Message from the ChairNovember is here and with it comes the holiday season – 28 days until Thanksgiving, 55 days until

Christmas, and 61 days to the end of the year. For many of you this time of year is incredibly busy.

You may find yourself gearing up for the holiday rush and end-of-year sales goals. As a leader,

you may also be reflecting on the year’s wins and highlights, and contemplating ways to show

    appreciation to your employees.

Many studies show that a top trait in quality leaders is the attitude of gratitude. In fact, they say

that the “combination of leadership and gratitude is extremely powerful.” When a leader practices

gratitude it changes their attitude and makes them more agile in stressful situations. This trait

can give them an edge over their competition and make them more resilient. Gratitude also has a

trickle-down effect. Leaders that practice the power of gratitude will find that it boosts employee

morale and empowers a positive workplace culture.

Sheryl Sandberg, COO of Facebook, said “Finding gratitude and appreciation is key to resilience.

People who take the time to list things they are grateful for are happier and healthier.”

I personally have decided to take the next 61 days of the year to develop a new habit. An attitude

of gratitude. I would like to challenge you to do the same. There are numerous books, blogs and

articles on-line to assist you in this journey.

For day #1, I would like to express my gratitude to all of you for being Chamber members!

Without you we could not provide the numerous events, leadership training and advocacy that

we do. Your commitment to the Chamber is what makes us strong and makes our community a

better place to live and do business. I truly am grateful for each and every one of you!

“As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter

words but to live by them.” – John F. Kennedy

    Escrow Officer

    Fidelity National Title

    Personal background

I am an experienced Escrow Officer in the

Albany Branch of Fidelity National Title

Company of Oregon, serving Linn, Benton,

Marion, Polk and Lane counties. I started

my career with Fidelity in 2014. I moved up

to assist two of the top producing Escrow

Officers for the Mid-Willamette Valley and

then assumed the Floater position to cover

all Escrow Officers on their days off.

My degree from the University of Oregon

is in Political Science and International

Studies with a Minor in Spanish. During

my internship abroad, I realized my

calling is to work locally with individuals

in my community and I love assisting

people purchase or sell their homes. I am

passionate about serving you and your

clients with the intent to become one of your

trusted business partners in real estate.

    Biggest issue facing Albany

The part I love most in Albany is all of the

    small businesses around town especially

near my office in the historic district. One of

Albany’s biggest needs is to keep this part

growing and to let small businesses grow

and flourish. Come on down for all your

    needs and keep it local!

    Chamber/community involvement

I love being a member and attending the

    weekly/monthly/quarterly events, Greeters

to see the different parts of Albany and

    meet local businesses. The Emerging

Leaders and Women in Business luncheons

are fantastic and really eye-opening. I

appreciate the opportunity to meet and

team-build with new people in the business

    community.

Mary Lou lives in Lake Oswego

Oregon and is the mother of four

    children. With her Catholic upbringing

and one of eight children, she had

    minimal exposure to cannabis. She

    started a business doing event

    planning shows, resource guides and

    connecting the hospitality industry

for over 28 years. When Oregon

    voted for cannabis legalization, a

friend with a tier 3 producer operation

    in Washington recommended that

    she duplicate her company model

for the Cannabis Industry with an

    educational Conference. Burton

    created the Cannabis Collaborative

    Conference with the 5th conference

    which features over 30 educational

sessions to help educate on rules &

    regulations with OLCC participating

    with the events. Networking and

connecting are her expertise and her

    public relations efforts have resulted

    in local, national and international

stories and recognition for the Oregon

Cannabis Industry. Her goal is to make

Oregon the “Model Cannabis State”. As

a result of her efforts and thousands of

    connections she has created “Cannabis

    Connex” with her partner Michelle

    Grogan. Together they are connecting

    buyers with sellers, investors,

    consulting, licensing, expansion,

networking and referrals for all aspects

    of the industry.
