AL-HIJRA ACADEMY
Knowledge is power. Information is liberating. Education is the premise of progress, in every society, in ever family.
Assalamalaikum,
We are only two months into the school year and the JKs have been adjusting extremely well to the Al-Hijra Academy environment, mashallah! In September, we had an “All About Me” unit where we had the students describe who they were and what their interests were. We also focused on school routines and procedures. We than read the book Chicka Chicka Boom and the JKs made a palm tree and added the letters of their name to it. Eid-ul-Adha came along and the students learned about the rituals of Hajj. We even made suitcases and pretended as though we were going for Hajj!
In October, our theme was apples. We made crafts centered around apples, read books about apples and took our first field trip to Wagner’s Apple Orchard for apple picking. Everyone had a great time and Sr. Suheyla even brought in apple crisp for the class. It was delicious! We have been recently focusing on the letters of the alphabet and counting numbers from 1 to 20 and doing various activity centers that are related to these concepts. In Islamic Studies, Arabic and Quran,
the students have been learning the du’aas before going to sleep, waking up, entering and leaving the bathroom, the morning du’aa and Du’aa Al- Safar (the du’aa before travelling). They are also learning Surah Al-Fatiha, Surah Al-Ikhlaas. Surah An-Nas and Surah Al-Buqarah (286).They have also been working on different letters of the Arabic alphabet as well.
The upcoming themes for October and November are fire safety, fall and colours. The JKs have been doing an amazing job so far and we can’t wait to see what is coming up next, inshallah!

Benefits of Cooperation: - Increasing feelings of brotherhood
between classmates.
- Getting rid of selfishness, as everyone
will do whatever he can out of sincere
faith.
Virtue of Cooperation:
- Prophet SW said: A believer in regard
to another believer is like a building
whose different parts enforce each other.
To know, is to know that you know nothing. That is true knowledge.

TIPS! - Check out our agendas and websites for information, homework and classroom events. - Lice check students for healthy and clean hair. Lice does not differentiate culture, race, or age. - School starts at 8:20 am. Coming to school prepared and on time allows the students to get a positive start to their day. - Talk to your children about the things they’re interested in and share the same with them. When they want to show you something, pay attention. If you can’t stop what you are doing right away, let them know that you’ll be with them soon and stick to your promise.
