having previously attained a number of postgraduate qualifications in the area of human resources and wanting to broaden my understanding of business and general management, I researched a number of university and Institute study options.

I chose AIM VT and the graduate Diploma of Management (Business) because it offered flexible learning delivery and course modules that suited my work needs. Through AIM VT’s rPL facility, I was also able to gain credit toward the Diploma based on my previous study and experience.

The course material and the way facilitators presented throughout the course was engaging, highly practical and readily applicable to a work situation.

I have since used the qualification attained at AIM VT to gain direct entry into a Business Masters course.

I was an active member of AIM nsW so the first thing I did when I relocated to Melbourne was join AIM VT. I’ve since enjoyed a range of events including forums, book launches, wine tastings and breakfast speakers.

Participating in the AIM VT Member events was an ideal way to meet a new circle of like-minded people and I appreciate the effort the Membership Team made in ensuring all-comers were made welcome.

For the first time, every student who undertakes nationally recognised vocational education and training (VET) in Australia (or overseas from an Australian-registered provider) will be able to access their enrolment and achievement record from a single authoritative source.

Currently, it is not possible for students to get a complete record of their VET enrolment and achievement history online from one place.

Commencement of the usI

Under the new initiative, students will be able to get a full transcript of all of the accredited VET training they have undertaken, from the time the USI comes into effect, or an extract of it that shows the particular achievements they want it to.

nationally recognised training information

Nationally recognised training includes qualifications from training packages and accredited courses. The process of nationally recognised training ensures that the training meets the standard required by industry. Only registered training organisations (RTOs) can issue nationally recognised qualifications or statements of attainment, meaning students can have confidence that they will attain skills of a high quality, accepted and recognised everywhere in Australia.

All nationally recognised training is listed on the training.gov.au website.

If the training you wish to undertake is not listed on training.gov.au, it is not nationally recognised training.

Training that was undertaken prior to the implementation of the USI cannot, unfortunately at this stage, be included in the transcript. However, it’s an issue that governments may consider in the future.

Applying for a usI

Once the USI is implemented, an individual can apply for a USI which then must be provided to their training provider before the person can receive a statement of attainment or qualification.

Protection of students privacy

The protection of your USI – and the personal and educational data that it links to – is paramount, and important safeguards will be in place to protect your privacy. A key principle underpinning the initiative is that individuals will have control over their USI and can determine who can have access to the personal and educational records associated with it.

Under the USI initiative a student’s USI must not be collected, used or disclosed by anyone other than the student for a purpose other than those set out in the legislation. There is also a requirement that anyone that has a record of your USI is to protect that record from misuse or unauthorised access.

Your privacy is further protected by the legislation requiring that any personal information collected by a training provider solely for the purpose of applying for the USI on your behalf is to be destroyed after the USI is obtained.

The USI will be stored by the Student Identifiers Agency, along with some personal information about you, such as your name, date of birth and a way of contacting you such as an email address. The USI will also be held by the National Centre for Vocational Education Research in a separate database along with your training records. Your personal information and training record will be linked only when you request a transcript of your achievements using your USI, you authorise someone else to do so or otherwise in accordance with the legislation.

The Australian Information Commissioner will be the key regulator of the privacy and confidentiality aspects of the USI legislation and will have the capacity to investigate and impose a range of sanctions.

Further information

If you have any questions or need more information, you can email the USI Taskforce at [email protected]

AIM VT is a Registered Training Provider delivering nationally recognised qualifications.

Flexibility

Combining study with full-time work can be challenging. AIM VT qualification programs run throughout the year, with no academic semesters and we accept applications and run programs throughout the year. You can build your qualification to suit you and your lifestyle, choosing from face-to-face, intensive, online or distance programs, or undertake study through your organisation.

experience

AIM VT has over 70 years proven experience training business leaders in management. We employ only the best facilitators who are highly experienced industry professionals with current working knowledge of their industry. Our strict facilitator selection process ensures high quality learning in every unit.

Pathway opportunities

Did you know that an AIM qualification can lead to further study? AIM’s Diploma of Management provides advanced standing towards a Bachelor of Business with the University of New England and the AIM Graduate Diploma of Management provides a pathway to the Master of Business Administration (MBA) program with AIM Business School.

Can I use my experience or prior study?rPL – experience can equal qualification

You can get Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) through an assessment at AIM. Through RPL, previous experience or formal study in a particular area of work may be recognised and credited towards a qualification. This process can be used for up to 50% of a Higher Education qualification, or up to 100% of a VET qualification.

Assessment of RPL may involve a workplace visit and/or submission of a portfolio of evidence demonstrating your existing skills, knowledge, competencies and personal attributes. Contact our Qualifications Adviser to discuss your eligibility and obtain a detailed RPL kit to help you understand what evidence is required.

Credit Transfer

AIM will recognise an equivalent unit/subject you have completed from other Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) or Higher Education providers. If you wish to include units from other training organisations in your AIM qualification, then you are required to provide a certified copy of the Statement of Attainment or Transcript of Results for verification. We will then advise you on whether your existing qualification can be used towards your AIM qualification.

how do I complete a qualification?

AIM VT programs linked to qualifications have assessments specifically designed for each program for participants to complete to gain the qualification.

These tasks include workplace-based assessments that are practical activities designed so you can demonstrate and apply learnings.

For further information on assessment requirements, please contact our Qualifications Adviser, or download a copy of the Student handbook from our website aimvt.com.au/qualifications
