AF002 Surface Preparation: Building a Solid Foundation No 1 HR Participants will learn the various surface preparation methods and how they apply to high-performance coating sytems on steel or concrete. This course discusses the importance of choosing the correct preparation methods for these substrates.
AF003 Protecting Surfaces from Corrosion Yes 1 HR Learn about the importance of surface preparation and the various standards, as well as coating system options.
AF004 Basic Paint Applications No 1 HR This course reviews the make-up of paint, as well various types of paints from acrylics to epoxies. Surface preparation is also covered.
AF006 Introduction to Coatings No 1 HR Introduction to paint coatings: make-up, types, performance.
AF008 Selecting Quality Paints and Coatings Using MPI Standards No 1 HR Learn how paint standards have delveloped over the years and understand how to apply specification methods of MPI into AIA Masterspec.
AF0013 Paint Specification and the Effects of Green Building Yes 1 HR Review how VOC affects paint specification and understand the requirements of LEED on such specifications.
AF0016 High-Performance Coatings for Use in Commercial Construction No 1 HR High-performance coatings are essential to the construction market. This course will help distinguish what types of coatings are suitable for different applications.
AF020 A Unique Painting of Fallingwater No 1 HR This course is a review of the challenges faced with maintaining and restoring this Frank Lloyd Wright masterpiece.
AF021 What Makes Paint Sustainable: VOCs and Beyond Yes 1 HRThis course provides an overview on how to select the most sustainable paints and coatings, how to examine the long-term sustainability of paint products, and explains the characteristics of both content and emission VOCs. At the end of the course, you will be able to compare paint manufacturers based on their corporate responsibility and commitment to sustainable policies.
AF022 Specification Guidelines: Assessing and Comparing Paints No 1 HR Provides an overview of ingredients of paint, how these ingredients can affect paint quality and what to consider when specifying paint for a project. Included are discussions on how to compare paints across different manufacturers and tips to avoid problems with a project down the road.
AF023 Paints and Coatings: Basic Practices for Surface Preparations and Solutions No 1 HR Provides an overview of the best surface preparation practices for drywall, wood, cement block and metal with a focus on paint ingredients and how paint adheres
to the substrate. Included are discussions on common paint issues and solutions.
CX002 Managing Expectations of Exterior Colors and Coatings No 1 HR
This course describes how to minimize color variation when designing a new building. The participant will understand what is involved in color selection and how color can change based on paint application, part configuration selected, paint manufacturing processes, substrate variation, paint technology and panel orientation. When following these best practices and procedures for painted surfaces, the architect can be assured of consistent quality and minimize problems during construction.
CX003 High-Performance Fluoropolymer Coatings No 1 HRThis course is designed to explain the differences in PVDF versus FEVE fluoropolymer resin systems. It also covers the type of products available by explaining pigmentation used for durability, IR reflectivity and appearance options like solids, micas and metallics. There are different types of application methods for fluoropolymers and various qualities available in liquid and powder formulations. This course also gives performance overviews based on AAMA performance specifications.
CX004 Architectural Applications for Liquid and Powder Fluoropolymer Coatings No 1 HR
This course was developed so architects would understand the advantages and disadvantages of liquid and powder coating technologies for the architectural markets. Participants will learn about the markets, the different coating technologies, manufacturing processes and application methods. The main benefit of the course will be to aid architects in the coating selection process, including information on appearance, end use, cost and other factors.
CX0005 Cool Coatings for Metal Roofing Yes 1 HR This course is an overview of cool roof coatings, including how they work, the research behind the scenes and the attributes.
PPGGlass13_1 Glass Production, Processing and Performance Yes 1 HR
This course provides an introduction to the different types of glasses that are available, such as clear, tinted and low-iron. Significant emphasis is placed on coated glasses, including the common types of low-e application processes and the consequent impact on energy and environmental performance. The different types of flat glass processing and fabrication methods, as well as thermal breakage, wind load, sound attenuation and size limitations as they relate to specifying glass are also covered.
PPGGlass13_2 How Low-E Coatings Improve Building Performance Yes 1 HRThis course provides in-depth information on the solar energy spectrum and common glass performance measures. The manufacturing processes for "passive" and "solar control" low-e coatings, how those coatings impact glass performance and improve energy efficiency, as well as the definition of spectrally selective glazings are also discussed.
