Message from the President
What a wonderful convention! Congratulations and special thanks to convention
chairs: Pat Lavender & Mary Frauenhoff for a job well done. Thanks to ALL who
helped with another successful convention. It takes a team to work together in
harmony to be successful in making a large event like our convention run smoothly,
and it did. I appreciate YOU for attending, donating silent auction gifts, and
providing your scrapbooks for all to see.
Thank you for submitting your reports and auxiliary information to the handbook
committee. The new handbooks are great but the accomplishments inside are even
greater. AHAA had 7,236 members, logged in over a million hours and donated just
under four million dollars to our hospitals last year.
Sharon Sly and I just returned from all seven district meetings and would like to
thank everyone for the very warm welcome we received at each one. Your creativity
just amazed me! Members of each district took my theme of music and my colors of
black and white, and created beautiful tablescapes, decorations, and programs, each
one uniquely different. I also loved the various types of musical entertainment each
of you provided. YOU ARE ALL AMAZING! Special thanks to each district chair,
presidents and members of those auxiliaries who hosted the fall meetings. The
auxiliary president’s reports were very informative and gave many ideas of ongoing
projects, fundraisers and contributions. There were also many great ideas for
Outstanding Achievement Award nominations. So, write them up and submit them
for the awards. You know that saying, “if you don’t submit them, you can’t win”!
It’s true! Also, please remember to send in your newsletters to the state newsletter
editor. You all have a lot of great ideas and you need to share them with others.
In closing, I would like to refer the presentation I made at the district meetings
entitled “Developing the Leader Within”. Have YOU found the leader within? The
beginning of leadership is to BELIEVE! Don’t wait to be asked to take on that
leadership role in your local auxiliary, your district or state organizations, just step
out of your comfort zone and say “I can do that”! Remember; believe in yourself as
others believe in you…JUST BELIEVE!!! Thank you for all you do!

Baptist Health Medical Center Heber Springs Submitted By: Holly Langster In our most fashionable way; we at Baptist Health Medical Center - Heber Springs brought fall fashions to life at our annual Style Show on October 19th! We are quite confident in making the statement that this was the BEST ONE YET! Using all local vendors, we were able to showcase fashions and accessories that not only benefitted our hospital, but our community as well. We will use the silent auction experiences we've had over the past several years at the next annual con-ference. This year's annual conference was superb and we were pleased to attend, hear the wonderful speakers, and most importantly, retain our five star rating and gain a fundraising award!! Not to be under-recognized; our team of volunteers who work so faithfully with our com-munity earned the North Central District Fall Community Service Award for their service and edu-cation to the senior center of Heber Springs. As November and December approach, we find our-selves busy planning for BIG events next year already; all the while planning for holiday parties, and Santa visits, as we continue our everyday service to the hospital. Ozark Health, Clinton Submitted By: Sharon Baker Ozark Health Auxiliary has expanded its free “Friends and Family CPR” classes that are currently being held at the Ozark Health Foundation Building. To better serve the community, the Auxiliary has purchased additional teaching material so that instructor RN Helen Dobbins – a member of our auxiliary and an employee of Ozark Health – will be able to conduct on-site classes for church groups, civic organizations, and senior citizens groups at their meeting places. These free classes will be conducted for groups throughout Van Buren County upon request and will also remain availa-ble at the Foundation Building. The Friends and Family CPR course is designed to teach small groups of non-medical rescuers the basics of CPR. The program uses the practice-while-watching format to teach skills in CPR, AED use, and relief of choking in adults, children and infants. Each participant finishing the course is is-sued a Certificate of Participation. Baxter Regional Medical Center Submitted By: Carolyn Hannon Here’s the latest from up North (Arkansas). Baxter Regional Medical Center Auxiliary enjoyed the fellowship of all of you at convention. Thanks for making it a success. We had 21 in attendance and are so proud of Paul Mruk’s (our President-Elect) Self Defense Class. Just remember to keep your weapon handy when you are out and about and alone!!! We are proud to have Sharon Huffmire in-stalled as the state president. We had a busy summer educating our board and future leaders of the auxiliary. Our annual Board retreat was very informative as well as fun. Cajoling each other as well as offering advice and sup-port is always one of the best results from our local Leadership Retreat. We also had 3 members at-tend the Leadership Conference in Little Rock. They said there was a lot of information exchanged. On one our recruitment events we utilized the Flippin Fireworks and Derby Races. The event ena-bled us to publicize our local Thrift Shop and also recruit new members. We have started a new program to build better relationships between departments. We call it Adopt-A Department. We honor one of the ancillary departments in the hospital that doesn’t always get the pat on the back or special thanks to let them know we appreciate them. Giving them a party or work-ing in their shoes they know we truly appreciate them. We will be doing this all year long so as not to miss any department. We did our part in raising funds for our Community Houses in the LEND-A-Hand Campaign by do-nating one of our very own, Janet Mruk (North Central District Chair) to the dunk tank. She was top winner in donations (and probably the wettest) Soon we will have a new shuttle to add to our fleet of vehicles. We are looking forward to the new acquisition of the Moto Electric Bus. White County Medical Center Submitted By: Jamie Laughlin The Foundation invited all Pep Club Members to attend the unveiling of the latest fundraising pro-ject….A NEW CAR!!! Actually, it is a new transport van and it has been much needed. The Pep Club is our internal fundraising organization made of associates and volunteers. Our Auxiliary continues to hold monthly breakfasts with a growing attendance. This is a great op-portunity to fellowship among auxiliary members. Nine auxiliary members with DVS, Jamie Laughlin, attended the annual AHAA convention and joint meeting. We enjoyed hearing from Governor Beebe. We left the meeting truly inspired by keynote speaker, Brian Boyle. We were honored to be one of the many 5-Star Award recipients. Seventeen of us attended the NC District Fall Meeting in Clinton. We had a blast and ate good too! Upcoming events include an Alter’s Gem Jewelers Sale on November 14
th & 15
th, a Craft & Bake
Sale to benefit the New Life Center on November 20th, “Rise & Shine Breakfast Time” fellowship
on November 27th. We will have our annual Christmas Potluck Luncheon on December 5

Submitted by: Delores Hartman - President Now that fall is here and we have all had our Flu Shots and TB Skin Tests November is packed full of projects for our auxiliary. Our first fundraiser this month will be the Beans and Cornbread Lunch-eon on November 8
th and also a Silent Auction. This will be a first for our auxiliary and hats off to
our business merchants for all the items they so generously donated. Our annual Thanksgiving Bake Sale will be on Friday, November 16
th and this is a great time to stock up on baked goods for
the holidays. One of our ladies made and donated a King Size Quilt so we are selling $1. Tickets on that and will draw for a winner the day of the Bake Sale. On Veteran’s Day, November 11
th our
local VFW will have the 500 + flags up along the walking trail on the hospital front lawn; this is a beautiful sight to see, and we will be providing snacks and refreshments. Later this month we will have a Handbag and Jewelry sale. During December we will be selling tickets on our Christmas Basket which is filled with many items plus a whole Petit Jean Ham, and once again one of our talented ladies has donated a Queen Size Quilt she made so each ticket holder will have an extra chance for this beautiful quilt. We all look forward to the nice Christmas Luncheon provided by our hospital for all volunteers during December. Merry Christmas to all!!!

Northeast District Shirley Grady, District Chair
St. Bernard’s Medical Center Submitted By: Dean Rossa St. Bernard’s Auxiliary hosted the NE Arkansas Fall District meeting in Jonesboro on October 31. One hundred and thirty-five members from eleven NEA chapters attended the meeting. Special guests included Sharon Huffmire and Sharon Sly, AHHA State President and President Elect. Guests were greeted by Mayor Harold Perrin. Chris Barber, St. Bernard’s CEO, spoke to the group. Entertainment included a fashion shop presented by the Gift Shop. St. Bernard’s Auxiliary recently mailed letters to the community for their annual Light Up a Life campaign. This campaign raises money to defray room costs for cancer patients and their families who stay overnight in Jonesboro during cancer treatment. A delegation of twenty-one members from the chapter attended AHAA state convention October 3-5 in Little Rock. Crittenden Regional Hospital, West Memphis Submitted By: Melba Nolan The Pink Ladies have been asked to serve in our Day Surgery Unit by answering phones and greeting patients. That gives us three areas within the hospital that we can shine: Admissions, Day Surgery and the Gift Shop. On August 18, the Pink Ladies will attend a Swim Party and potluck in their honor at the home of Frank and Belinda Looney. Frank is the son of our Auxiliary President, Vern Truitt. We welcome a new member this month, Barbara Boone.

Siloam Springs Hospital Submitted By: Sharon Sly Siloam Springs has been plagued by surgeries and illnesses and have just managed to man our usual volunteer stations. Our sale of paintings from the former hospital netted almost $700. We partnered with Radiology for Cancer Awareness Month and donated over $300 in gifts for mammogram patients. All workers in radiology wore pink scrubs for the month. Christmas caps for new-borns are being made by several of our volunteers. We have one new member in training and another one is being processed. Eleven members attended the fall meeting in Fayetteville. Our Gift Shop is gearing up for Christmas and the Annual Christmas Preview is scheduled for Thursday, November 8. An extremely successful scrub sale was held October 11 and 12. One board member and the volunteer services coordinator attended the Annual AHAA Convention in Little Rock, October 3-5. We were delighted that our auxiliary earned another five-star rating. The board has a retreat to plan for 2013 scheduled on November 12.

Mark Bailey, Chief of Police of the Alpena Police Department made this observation as members of the SJAB presented him with toys to be used when dealing with children in various incidents. “A toy helps to relieve tension and anxiety when there is confusion and hurt.” Chief Bailey expressed his appre-ciation to the auxiliary and suggested other agencies who may be interested in the toy program. OUACHITA COUNTY MEDICAL CENTER – Camden Submitted by Daphne Bennett, Newsletter Editor Sixteen members of the OCMC Auxiliary attended the Fall District meeting hosted by the Hot Spring County Medical Center. * We have added two new members since September 1. * In our October Board meeting we committed $250,000 for the purchase of a Central Monitoring System for our emergency room. $15,000 has been contributed to date. * Our scrub sale October 25 and 26 was very successful--net sales exceeded either of the two previous sales! * Volunteers are working on our annual fundraiser, the Christmas Gift of Life in Lights, and these lights will be turned on Decem-ber 6. * Our gift shop will open on Monday, November 5, all dressed for the holidays. Volunteers worked diligently the previous Friday and Saturday in order to make this happen. Mercy Hospital Hot Springs Submitted By: Peg Kuhnly Twelve members of our auxiliary (whatever its name might be) attended the state convention this year. We were happy to receive at five star award of excellence again and excited to learn that we had received an outstanding achievement award for our community service activities in regard to breast cancer awareness. We heard some very good speakers, learned more about Medicaid Ex-pansion and were able to place orders with some of the new vendors and arrange fund raising activi-ties with new vendors too. It is always good to be able to visit with auxiliary members from other parts of the state and learn from them. The trip to the district meeting is always a good experience for us with a chance to listen and learn from the other auxiliaries. We enjoyed having a chance to “meet” our new president and president elect and happy to learn that our immediate past president, Lynn Smith has been appointed to serve a three year term with the American Hospital Association Com-mittee on Volunteers—a big honor for Lynn and for AHAA! Holiday sales are brisk in the gift shop. The key words seem to be “if you see it and you like it buy it now, it will probably not be here the next time you are in the shop.” The employees know we are having several fund raising sales before Christmas and are looking forward to doing some shopping then too. The fall is busy with new projects beginning and more busy than usual for us as we are still learning more about the probable sale of our hospital. We really don’t know for sure who we are at this point in time. We think logo things will sell well in the Company Store when we know who we are and what the logo might be!

Baptist Health Medical Center Submitted By: Alene Tripp The newest service to our hospital, Patient-Liaison Center, is slated to begin the first of 2013. We are all looking forward to keeping family aware of what’s going on with their loved one while in sur-gery or during delivery of a child. We have three students from Ouachita Baptist University who are volunteering on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. in our hospital. The auxiliary’s membership in the Arkadel-phia Chamber of Commerce has been continued for another year. Christmas Open House is scheduled for November 18
th from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. This is a com-
munity-wide event and we will be serving light refreshments. Our Annual Fall Vendors Expo will be held on November 8
th. Ten vendors are scheduled to partici-
pate. A new fund-raiser, “Portraits”, is scheduled for Saturday, December 1
st. Our goal is to sell 60 tickets
to families for Christmas portraits that may be used for Christmas gifts or for any gifts that may be needed. Our President, Grace Calhoun, is still recovering from back surgery; however, she was able to at-tend our October regular meeting and plans to begin a limited work schedule. We’re so thankful to have her back as the number of our auxiliary members has decreased recently. The following is a review of prior events since we were unable to submit a report for the September-October Newsletter: Our Second Annual Luncheon/Fashion Show held September 22
nd, was a huge success thanks to
our hospital, DVS, Loretta Kilts; all our sponsors, outside help and our auxilians. Cardiac Rehab is a new service at our hospital. Our auxiliary donated $4,605.76 to the Baptist Health Foundation for needed equipment. A new autoclave cart for use during surgery has been de-livered. Our participation in its purchase was $4,280. We had four auxilians attend the AHAA State Convention held October 3-5, including our DVS, Loretta Kilts. Greg Stubblefield, Administrator, was our guest at the Awards Luncheon on Thursday of the Convention, for the second consecutive year, we received a 5-Star Award! We recently presented a $500 scholarship to our very own “young” volunteer, Megan Reed, who at-tends Henderson State University and plans to major in neuro-science. Six auxilians attended the Fall Southwest District meeting at Malvern on October 29
th. We had a
great time and the put on a great fashion show! It’s been quite a year for us and the rest of 2012 looks to be a very busy for us.

Valley District Theresa Erwin, District Chair
Summit Medical Center Van Buren Submitted By: Mamie Mann, President State Convention was attended by five of our Auxiliary. For three it was their first Convention. As usual we thoroughly enjoyed all the activities. Our Auxiliary was well represented at the Fall District Meeting in Clarksville Oct.23rd. Ten mem-bers attended and enjoyed the wonderful hospitality of the Johnson Regional Auxiliary. We have had a Book Sale, a Scrub Sale, and our first Razorback Sale. Our Gift Shop sales have been down due to the contracting out of two of the Hospital Departments, which prevented these employees from participating in payroll deduction. Payroll deduction has been a real help for all our fundraisers. Arvest Bank has given a @1,500 Grant to sponsor a Health Fair for Veterans on Nov. 12(Veterans Day). The Fair will provide screening and Health Information for Veterans. It will be held at the Ar-vest Bank in Alma, and six of our Auxiliary member will be assisting. We are looking forward to attending the Sparks Guild annual Thanksgiving Luncheon at Hard-scrabble Country Club on Nov. 13th.It promises to be a real fun event. Upcoming events include a Jewelry Sale, our annual Christmas wreath decorating contest with Si-lent Auction, a bake Sale and filled Christmas Cookie Jar Sale, which will also be a Silent Auction. We are planning to again have our Linen Sale in January. The Holiday Season is always a busy time for the Auxiliary, and sometimes we forget the true reason for the Season The birth of Jesus. . Best wishes for a meaningful Holiday Season Saint Mary’s Regional Medical Center Submitted by: Janet Thurber, Auxiliary President Fall is here and Saint Mary’s volunteers are working and playing hard. Last month we held our an-nual Volunteer Roundup Potluck. A crowd of about 60 (including volunteers, hospital administra-tors, and potential volunteers) enjoyed a variety of delicious home-made dishes. Several new vol-unteers were recruited from the potluck. Also in September some of our male volunteers assisted Saint Mary’s and Urology Associates of North Central Arkansas with an educational seminar on prostate health. Seminar attendees received a free prostate screening. October was a busy month for our Auxiliary. Donnie Frederick, Saint Mary’s CEO, attended our October meeting and brought auxiliary members up-to-date on recent changes in Saint Mary’s staff and equipment purchases. Our President and Vice President attended the AHAA Convention and proudly brought home a Five Star Award. Volunteers also assisted the hospital with the Mammo-grams and Martinis event. Twelve auxiliary members attended the Valley District Fall Meeting in Clarksville. The Auxiliary recently responded to a request from Arkansas Oncology for a dedicated volunteer to assist with transporting cancer patients into, around, and out of the hospital. While details are still being worked out, plans are for the volunteer to be stationed in the Cancer Center so that they are immediately available to help patients get in and out of their cars and transport them to the lab for tests.

In November our Auxiliary will attend annual competency training and hold a jewelry sale to help fund scholarships. Volunteers will bring canned and non-perishable goods to the November meet-ing for distribution to the local food bank. Each November we also make Christmas stockings to be given to every new baby born at Saint Mary’s during December. A special stocking is made for the first baby born in the New Year. We close out the year in December with Saint Mary’s annual Christmas Lunch for volunteers – an
event we all look forward to.

Melissa Williamson (right) is first recipient of AHAA President's Award. President Lynn Smith (left) presented the trophy to Melissa at the 54th Annual Awards and Past Presidents Luncheon at the AHAA Convention. Lynn asked (AHAA Board) and received permission to initiate this award for 2012. It does not set precedence, future presidents will decide if the award should be continued and who will be award-ed the honor. Melissa Williamson was awarded the trophy due to the many, many hours she contributed to AHAA in the past year. She served as Handbook Chair, collecting reports from officers and auxilia-ries to put together the current handbook. This year she added color, the AHAA patch, to the handbook. As Leadership Chair, Melissa put together an outstanding group of speakers for the leadership workshop at Chenal Country Club. The workshop included table decorations to support the theme "Cultivating Leadership" and door prizes donated by the more than 100 members, rep-resenting 46 auxiliaries in attendance. Working with the convention committee, Melissa handled registration for convention. She initiated and collected registration forms and money for registration and meals, then printed badges and itineraries for more than 375 members. In addition, Melissa also served as co-chair of AHAA Scholarship Committee. When making the presentation, Lynn said, "Please know that each and every member deserves to be recognized and praised for ALL they do for AHAA. I am awarding this honor to Melissa Williamson due to the fact that she chaired Handbook, Lead-ership, Registration and co-chaired Scholarship Committee. I feel sure Missy has volunteered more hours than I have this past year." Congratulations to Melissa Williamson!

PAT LAVENDER says friends encouraged her to start volunteering at Southwest Hospital
in 1987. “I enjoy doing for others. It makes me feel warm all over and I know it’s appreci-
ated. I have been blessed all my life, it makes me feel good to give back,” she says.
Lavender, of Little Rock, use to prepare Southwest’s newsletter and, when her work attract-
ed statewide notice, she was asked to do the Arkansas Hospital Auxiliary Association’s
(AHAA) state newsletter. She has been on the AHAA Board since then and has served in
most of the officer positions. “I like organization so those positions suited me well,” she
says. AHAA includes 61 hospital auxiliaries and more than 7,200 volunteers.
She is chairing the AHAA’s state convention this year and has also co-chaired the auxilia-
ry’s scholarship committee since 2005. “Each year we give scholarships to students in the
UAMS College of Nursing and College of Health Professions. Arkansas has such a great
need for more nurses and the scholarships mean a lot to the students; they mean a lot to me
too,” she says. “This has given me another way to contribute positively to the lives of oth-
ers,” Lavender says.
Because one of Lavender’s sons is a physician at UAMS’ University Hospital, she trans-
ferred her volunteering there. “It was a good fit for me,” she says. “And all my doctors are
there.”
After her husband’s death two years ago, Lavender says volunteer work “has kept me go-
ing. While he was ill, I was his caregiver. I missed my volunteer work so much but I knew
where my priorities were,” she says.
Lavender says volunteer work has “made me more sensitive to the needs of others. It keeps
my mind active.”
Another of Lavender’s favorite pastimes is volunteering as an usher at performances of
both the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra and for the Arkansas Repertory Theatre.
“Volunteering keeps me healthier, more active and giving back to my community,” she
says.
“I know everyone says they need more volunteers but we especially need them in hospitals.
I would encourage everyone to volunteer,” she adds.

St. Vincent Infirmary Only Hospital in Arkansas Participating in Operation Walk 2012
(LITTLE ROCK, ARK.) – Patients who need joint replacement surgery and don’t have the health insurance or personal savings to pay for it will have hip or knee replacement surgery at St. Vincent Infirmary on Saturday, Dec. 8 at no charge. All services – including the time of surgeons, anesthesiologists, and other physicians along with x-rays, lab, surgical team, rehabil-itation, and inpatient care -- are being donated by the surgeons, C. Lowry Barnes, M.D., Paul Edwards, M.D. and Gordon New-bern, M.D., medical staff, therapists, and St. Vincent Health System.
Similar surgeries will be performed in 14 other states through Operation Walk, a private, not-for-profit, volunteer medical ser-vices organization, which provides free surgical treatment for patients in developing countries and now the United States that have no access to life-improving care for arthritis or other debilitating bone and joint conditions. "I have previously joined Operation Walk teams from Los Angeles, Boston, and Baltimore and had the opportunity to perform joint replacements in Peru, the Dominican Republic, and India. I am extremely excited to lead the effort at St. Vincent to provide these life changing operations for Arkansans. I have always believed that charity should start at home. Operation Walk and St. Vincent are helping make this possible," Barnes said about the Operation Walk 2011. “Operation Walk is a visible and tangible opportunity to nurture the healing ministry of the Catholic Church and bring it new life, energy, and viability in 2011,” said Peter D. Banko, President and CEO of St. Vincent Health System said last year. “With the skilled hands of Drs. Barnes, Newbern and Dr. Edwards and all the volunteers and donors that will give of their time, talents, and treasure, is exactly why the Sisters of Charity of Nazareth came to Little Rock 123 years ago,” Banko added.
Operation Walk started as a private, not-for-profit, volunteer medical services organization which provides free surgical treatment for patients in developing countries that have no access to life-improving care for arthritis or other debilitating bone and joint conditions. Operation Walk also educates in-country orthopedic surgeons, nurses, physical therapists and other healthcare professionals on the most advanced treatments and surgical techniques for diseases of the hip and knee joints. This is done in conjunction with surgeries to help create a lasting contribution to patient care in developing countries

54TH ANNUAL MEETING
DOUBLETREE HOTEL, LITTLE ROCK, ARKANSAS
OCTOBER 3, 2012
At 2:00 p.m. on October 3, 2012, the 54th Annual Meeting of the Arkansas Hospital Auxiliary
Association was called to order by President, Lynn Smith. Nedra White led the prayer and
Pledge of Allegiance.
President Smith thanked the Convention Co-chairs for their time and hard work while plan-
ning the State Convention. She asked the voting delegates to please be seated in the dele-
gates’ section on the front row and instructions were given regarding voting procedures.
President Smith then introduced the Convention Chair, Pat Lavender and her Co-chair, Mary
Frauenhoff, and asked them to stand. President Smith then introduced the current AHAA
Board of Directors and the Appointed Chairs and thanked them for their service.
Melissa Williamson, Registration Chair, then gave her report. There were 361 registered rep-
resenting 56 auxiliaries. Linda Butler, Parliamentarian, then reported that 61 auxiliaries were
in good standing. She stated that there were 48 registered delegates and 44 registered alter-
nates and that 38 was the number needed for a quorum.
Secretary, Shirley Walters, called the roll, after which Linda Butler announced that there was
a quorum. Secretary Walters reported that the minutes of the 2011 Annual Meeting, as ap-
proved by the appointed committee, were printed in the November/December 2011 AHAA
Newsletter. The President asked for a motion to approve the minutes as printed. The motion
was made by D. Hester from UAMS and the second was given by Judy Overton from North-
west Medical Center, Springdale. The motion carried.
Three members were appointed by President Smith to approve the 2012 Annual Meeting
minutes. They are: Anita Spearman, Mercy Hospital, Berryville, Freddie Lipton, Bradley
County Medical Center, Warren and Mamie Mann, Summit Medical Center, Van Buren.
Treasurer, Sharon Sly, read the auditor’s letter and stated that a copy of the report was in the
new handbook. There were no questions and the letter was accepted. Sharon then presented
the Proposed Budget for 2012-13 as printed in the handbook. A motion to accept the pro-
posed budget, as listed, was made by Ann Cloud from Siloam Springs Regional Hospital,
with a second from Marsha Scott from Ashley County Medical Center. The motion carried.

Bylaws Committee Chair, Peg Kuhnly, reported that the proposed bylaws changes were
printed in the July/August 2012 AHAA Newsletter and were also sent to each district Chair
to be given to the voting delegates. There were discussions and then a motion to accept the
bylaws changes as printed in the AHAA Newsletter was made by Carolyn Hannon from Bax-
ter Regional Medical Center, with a second from Norma Hogue from Drew Memorial Hospi-
tal. The motion carried.
Mary Frauenhoff, Credentials Chair, gave the Credentials Committee report with proposed
nominees for Officers as follows: President-elect, Sharon Sly, from Siloam Springs Regional
Hospital, Vice President, Jerry Berley, Ouachita County Medical Center in Camden, Secre-
tary, Margaret Underwood, North Arkansas Regional Medical Center, Harrison, Treasurer,
Melissa Williamson, St. Vincent Health Center, Little Rock, Newsletter Editor and Shirley
VanHorn, Washington Regional Medical Center, Fayetteville. A motion was made by Alene
Tripp, Baptist Health Medical Center, Arkadelphia, with a second by Barbara Goodwin from
Jefferson Regional Medical Center, Pine Bluff. The motion carried and President Smith de-
clared the slate of officers elected.
The following positions were also announced: Incoming President, Sharon Huffmire, Baxter
Regional Medical Center, ASDVS President, Jim Gibbons, Baptist Health, Little Rock and
AHA President, Bo Ryall.
Seven District Chairs, who were elected at their Spring District meeting were introduced.

President Smith then announced that we would have a first—a guest speaker at the Business
Meeting. She stated that we try to keep everyone informed on issues on which we need to
take action. Advocacy is one of the top priorities. Theda Aud, Legislative Chair, introduced
Jodiane Tritt to speak on “Medicaid Expansion in Arkansas”. She gave a presentation on
Medicaid Expansion and what it means and how it will help our hospitals. She asked us to
talk with our legislators.
President Smith made a few announcements concerning the time of events during the Con-
vention and there being no further business, President, Lynn Smith declared the 54th Annual
Meeting of the Arkansas Hospital Auxiliary Association adjourned.
