Holy Bull S. cont. Breaking from the seven post, Cairo Prince was hungsome four or five wide into the first turn as Saezappeared unconcerned with saving ground. He settledinto an easy beat behind an opening quarter in :23.63,and inched up a spot or two from the three paththrough a half in :46.75. Four deep and in third aspacesetter Coup de Grace (Tapit) began to back up, thechalk looked like he had Almost Famous (Unbridled=sSong) and Mr Speaker (Pulpit) whenever he wantedthem--and he did. Sweeping up to lead while still inhand at the quarter pole, Cairo Prince proved not forcatching from there as he strode to the wire with thehelp of a few left-handed reminders from his passenger. AHe broke so well and the whole race I kept him inthe clear,@ explained Saez, who piloted last year=schampion 3-year-old Will Take Charge (Unbridled=sSong) during the second half of last season. AWhen wegot to the half-mile pole, I knew I had a lot of horse. When we got to the three-eighths pole, I knew I couldwin the race, so when we came into the stretch I askedhim and he responded. He just took off. I had so muchhorse. He=s a nice horse.@ Saez added, AHe=s veryspecial. He=s one of the best horses I=ve ridden in mylife. I have to say thanks to Kiaran McLaughlin and theowners for the chance to ride him.@ These same connections campaigned Soldat (WarFront), who emerged as the leading Florida-basedKentucky Derby contender in 2011 after a victory in theGII Fountain of Youth S. Say What?

Mark Casse, trainer of Conquest Titan: It was a nice run, we were happy with it. We hadhoped to not be so far back, but going into the firstturn, they sandwiched him, so [rider] Shaun[Bridgmohan] did the right thing and took him back. This is not the easiest place to come from out of it. Wewanted to know if he fit with these horses and I thinkhe proved that today. He has a special place he likesreally well (Churchill Downs) and they run there on thefirst Saturday in May, so that=s good. I=ll have to talk tothe owner, but we=ll probably stay here.

Todd Pletcher, trainer of Intense Holiday: I thought he ran super. It was a tough post (11), butwe were able to get a pretty good trip from there. Heput in a really good middle move, and then I think hemaybe hung a little bit, but he made up a lot of ground. The winner was very good today, but I=m pleased withhis effort.

ARB RELEASES PROPOSED TRACK RATINGS The Australian Racing Board has released a newdefinition of tracks ratings for input and comment bypunters and industry stakeholders. The ARB has workedwith officials from Racing New South Wales, RacingVictoria and Racing Queensland to develop a system ofupdated and modernized track ratings. AThe object of the exercise was to modernize theterms applying to track ratings for the benefit ofpunters, and the next generation of punters andracegoers, whilst describing in detail the footing of thetrack.@ said ARB Chief Executive Officer PeterMcGauran. AThe ARB=s aim is to give the racing publicand participants the most detailed and easilyunderstood information possible on track conditions. The Working Party agreed that the numerical ratingsystem should be retained as the strongest guide to thegoing of a track, in conjunction with terms morecommonly used and understood by punters.@ He continued: AWe want to take the revision into themarketplace and get the feedback of racing=scustomers. Track ratings can be a complex andcontentious issue at times, and we need to update andstreamline the current system whilst not losing its bestfeatures.@ The proposed rating system is as followed. Forcomments and feedback on the proposed system, please contact the ARB through the >Contact Us=section at www.australianracingboard.com.au.

LISA CRAIG: I=ve spent the past 3 1/2 years up to my ears instories about horses rescued by the TRF, and although Iknew a bit about the Paragallo rescue, Wednesday=sTDN story increased my understanding of the situationdramatically. We have so many rescue stories that at times Ialmost grow accustomed to them and don=t have anemotional reaction when I think about them. But I was in tears before I was halfway through theTDN-Bpartly in anger over how the horses suffered, butmostly joy because so many people have bandedtogether to give those horses their own AHappily EverAfters.@ The story was wonderfully written and I wasincredibly moved by it. I=ve sent it along to a womanwho just began sponsoring Tank. She=s going to love it. Thank you so much for doing this. It really helps giveall of us the heart to keep fighting for these horses.

With gratitude,Lisa Craig Horse Sponsorship Program Coordinator, Thoroughbred Retirement Foundation

There may be the better part of three months beforeAustralia's best 2-year-olds battle for the world'srichest juvenile purse in the G1 Golden Slipper S., butthere is already a strong favorite for the race followinga virtuoso debut performance from Rubick in the

Saturday opener atRandwick. The wordwas out on the colt,an A$460,000graduate of the 2013Magic Millions GoldCoast Yearling Sale, after he buried hisrivals in a Jan. 7barrier trial atRosehill, winning offby 7 1/2 lengthswhile covering 900meters in a slick:52.50. Drawnoutside for hisdebut, Rubick wasrestrained just offthe early pace byBrenton Avdulla, butwhen let down inupper stretch, putabout four lengthson his rivals andcrossed the line toscore by 2 3/4eased-down lengths.Filling out the minorswere two of the topthree top lots from

the same 2013 Gold Coast sale. Runner-up Twirl (Aus)(f, 2, Lonhro {Aus}), produced by a full-sister to boomsire Fastnet Rock (Aus), cost James HarronA$675,000, while Coolomore's Valentia (Aus) (c, 2,Fastnet Rock {Aus}) topped the sale on a bid of A$1.35million, ironically two lots after Rubick went throughthe ring. Rubick was an $11 (10-1) chance for theSlipper prior to Saturday's race, but firmed into $4.60(7-2) to lead the market following his victory.

Rubick cont.

AI would have been really disappointed knowing whatI know at home and what I have had over the years, ifhe didn=t do that,@ trainer Gerald Ryan told AAP. AI thinkhe is a really nice horse and he has improvement in himand as Brenton and I said this morning, today was onlythe fourth time he has been out of the gates. He racedwell, he was a bit keen early but came back and relaxedunderneath him, quickened when he wanted him to. Heis a nice horse." Plans call for Rubick to make his nextstart in the G3 Blue Diamond Prelude S. Feb. 8 ahead ofthe G1 Blue Diamond S. two weeks later. The winner'sdam is a 3/4-sister to the top sire Redoute's Choice(Aus) (Danehill), but died in 2012. Her final foal is ayearling filly by More Than Ready. BLUE DIAMOND CONTENDERS IN ACTION With the G1 Blue Diamond S., Australia=s firstimportant juvenile race of the season, just under amonth away, contenders for the A$1-million race areemerging. Caulfield Racecourse, home of the BlueDiamond, staged its first round of formal prep racesyesterday, the Listed Blue Diamond Preview-Fillies andthe Listed Blue Diamond Preview-Colts & Geldings.Eloping (Aus) (Choisir {Aus}) proved too good for theopposition in the former, extending her unbeaten recordto two with an easy one-length victory. The bayshrugged off a slow break, cruising to the lead in theearly stages and winning with minimal trouble. Originalplans had called for the filly to contest the A$2-millionMagic Millions 2YO Classic earlier in the month, but asetback kept her from traveling to the Gold Coast. Sheproved yesterday to be firmly back on track. Cornrow(Aus) (Duporth {Aus}) was second, while Ducal Castle(Aus) (Domesday {Aus}) checked in third. "It was nothing serious, but we wouldn=t have got itright in time so we backed off her for a couple ofweeks and there=s been no issue since,@ CraigWiddison, co-trainer with Peter Morgan, toldRacenet.com.au. VIDEO. Darley lifted the Blue Diamond Colts Preview, andsubsequently the Blue Diamond, in 2011 with Sepoy(Aus) (Elusive Quality), and they will be hoping Mohave(Aus) (Exceed and Excel {Aus}) can follow the samepattern after winning male=s division by nearly a lengthfor trainer Peter Snowden. In his only previous outing,Mohave finished second to the exciting Law (Aus)(Denman {Aus}) in Randwick=s Listed Breeders= Plate.Whistle Baby (Aus) (Magnus {Aus}) was second, andOrvieto (Aus) (Testa Rossa {Aus}) was third.
