CENTRAL VALLEY AG • AGRONOMY SOLUTIONS
First and foremost, thank you for being a Central Valley Ag agronomy customer. We strive to provide profitable solutions for your farming operation. We value your business and hope the information in this booklet will add value to the products and services we can provide you with, from precision technologies to basic product information. We have included chemical programs that we feel will fit your specific needs and provide full-service backing at affordable prices, along with technical information on plant development, diseases, and insects. Thank you again for allowing CVA to be your supplier of choice.
S.V.P. Agronomy
PESTICIDE RECOMMENDATION POLICYAt CVA our professional team promises to do our best to help each and every customer to select the crop protection products that are best suited for the needs of our customers’ fields. We also take great pride in our professional custom application business. Our customers make the final determination on the crop protection products they select to purchase. As the performance of crop protection products is often determined by weather conditions and other factors beyond our control, CVA makes NO GUARANTEE of weed control, insect control, disease control, or general product effectiveness. While the manufacturers and insurance companies that we work with are
happy to help a grower solve problems when concerns arise, they have strict notification policies. If concerns about product effectiveness and/or a CVA custom application should arise, please notify CVA immediately upon discovery and within 30 days of application for “pre-emergence” applications or 15 days for “post-emergence” applications. Timely notification allows chemical manufacturers, insurance companies, and CVA to address issues upfront and help mitigate any concerns. Manufacturers, insurance companies, and CVA may decline coverage if concerns are not reported in a timely matter.

Ag Leader® Technology offers the most complete line of Precision Ag Equipment on the market, and has since 1992. Ag Leader now offers technology that controls and monitors planters, sprayers, and
tile plows. Of course they still have yield monitor systems, and offer some of the most innovative and accurate guidance systems on the market.
In 2012, CVA became an Ag Leader
Blue Delta Dealer. Ag Leader describes Blue Delta Dealers as, “the most elite of precision farming experts. They have the most intensely trained employees backed by the best resources in the industry.” ACS
has been selling and servicing Ag Leader equipment since 1997, so receiving this designation after 15 years is a tribute to our organization, as well as our customers.
RTK SOLUTIONSMYWAY RTK & DIGIFARM MyWay RTK is the technology that can be used with virtually any precision farming system, including factory installed steering from John Deere or CNH. Unlike other RTK systems, you can be up to 25 miles from the base and still get a strong signal providing high accuracy. But why use RTK instead of OmniSTAR, WAAS, or StarFire?
Advanced Cropping Systems® is now your provider for unmatched RTK GPS Technology! RTK (Real Time Kinematic) positioning is the most accurate signal available for farmers looking to use precision farming technology.
Why MyWay RTK?• Advanced technology• Sub-Inch accuracy• Technology neutral• Cellular/Internet based signal• No line of sight needed• 25 mile signal range from base station• Designed for agriculture
Let DigiFarm Steer You in the Right Direction• No satellite drift• No “line of site” required• Compatible with nearly all brands of
GPS equipment• Pass to pass accuracy with year after
year repeatibility.

CENTRAL VALLEY AG • AGRONOMY SOLUTIONS
Precision Planting® was started in 1993, by a farm family, on the concept that improved seed placement was a fundamental agronomic principal that dictated crop success and yield. Through the years, Precision Planting has expanded on their “Agronomy First” philosophy and continue to develop ways to make planters more accurate, with the goal of “getting every seed in the field to emerge within 12 hours of each other.” Whether it is testing or calibrating seed meters on our test stand or installing a system to let you remotely raise or lower your row cleaners, Precision Planting is a company that lines up with many of the
same principals of ACS.
POPULATIONS. SPACING. PLACEMENT.Higher populations mean that the placement of every plant - every seed - is critical. Corn plants closer than 4” sense high population and react to the high stress environment. But with little effort, today’s planters can achieve spacing accuracy of 97% or more.
DEPTH. COMPACTION. RESIDUE.Uniform emergence is the most important event in a cornfield’s year. Plants that do not emerge within 48 hours after their neighbors turn into “weeds”. Creating a good, clean
seed V, getting seeds to the bottom of the trench and eliminating compaction can get plants off to a uniform start.
MEASURE. MONITOR. CONTROL.Find and fix planter problems before they cost you a dime. New monitoring and sensing systems can identify expensive issues you can’t detect in the shop. And with new control systems, you can set and forget critical functions like downforce adjustments, VR populations and Row Control.
ACS tests and services ALL types of meters.

VRI SPEED AND ZONE CONTROLACS AquaSystems VRI prescriptions, in the form of either VRI Speed Control or VRI Zone Control can be generated for nearly any brand of center pivot. VRI Speed Control can utilize from 60 to 180 sectors, depending on your pivot and controller. VRI Zone Control is already available on most new pivot panels, such as Valley Select 2, Valley Pro2, or Reinke Touch Pro. If your pivot is a little older, VRI can be added by our Equipment Specialist and not only make your pivot “VR Ready,” but also give you the ability to remotely monitor and control it. AquaSystems can add Pivot Monitoring and VRI Control to almost any brand or age of pivot, as long as it has electric drives.
SOIL TEXTURE AND ELEVATION Based on EC and RTK Elevation Data, irrigation can be increased or decreased based on soil properties and slope. This ensures the correct amount of water throughout the field, while not over or under watering critical areas.
COMPATIBLE PIVOT SYSTEMSAny brand or age of pivot with an AgSense upgrade or Valley Tracker upgrade is compatible with ACS AquaSystem VRI‘s Speed Control.
Valley and Reinke have options available for ACS AquaSystems VRI’s Zone Control.
Pivots that are “VRI Ready” Include:
• Valley Select2• Valley Pro2• Reinke TouchPro

ACS AQUASYSTEMS VRIIncreasing water use efficiency through precision Variable Rate Irrigation (VRI) is a primary focus of ACS AquaSystems VRI. If irrigation is not fully optimized right from the beginning other factors such as nitrogen use efficiency often do not reach their full potential. Applying the optimum level of irrigation is more important than ever. As the single most valuable natural resource, applying excess irrigation is an unnecessary cost, leaches nitrogen and can even lower yields. However, applying too little irrigation can reduce yield potential as well.
The goal of ACS AquaSystems VRI is to substantially increase production on irrigated crop fields with soil and/or topography variability, by applying the optimum application depths of water at both the right time and the right place. ACS AquaSystems VRI utilizes a combination of EC and RTK elevation change data, along with real-time soil moisture data to create our VRI prescriptions. ACS AquaSystems VRI is an affordable, fully-supported, data-driven Precision Ag solution that works for any center pivot irrigated acre and any crop type.
ACS AQUASYSTEMSACS AquaSystems utilizes the same concept as ACS AquaSystems VRI to make standard irrigation scheduling recommendations. A combination of EC and RTK elevation change data, along with real-time soil moisture data make the most accurate and timely irrigation scheduling recommendations. The goal of ACS AquaSystems is to make informed, data based irrigation recommendations to ensure the proper amount and timing of irrigation scheduling.
ACS AQUASYSTEMS PROGRAM IMPLEMENTATION PROCESS• Select fields for AquaSystems
enrollment.• EC & Elevation map fields.• Use data to determine optimum probe
location.• ACS probe installation.• Wireless/Cell probe data transferred
to ACS website for viewing and recommendations.
• Irrigate TIMELY and ACCURATELY.

RD PlatformIn today’s agricultural environment, farmers are inundated with a myriad of information and offers to try new products and encouragement to adopt new practices. The agronomic landscape is changing so fast that farmers may find it difficult to keep abreast with ever changing information. That’s where the RD Program can assist you in sifting through the countless options available and provide focus toward the best yield-enhancing opportunities for your farm.
In helping select the best products and management strategies for you to assess on your fields, our priority is two-fold:
1) The products/practices must improve the productivity of your acres.
2) The products/practices must increase your profitability, even in times of lower commodity prices.
In short, it has to work on your farm! We are committed to work with you, side-by-side, to determine how to maximize performance in your fields, through one of two options, that are designed to deliver results:
RD2 PROGRAMTurn a portion of your acres into an on-the-farm research facility. An innovative approach to conducting premier on-the-farm research that is meaningful to you - because it’s done on YOUR farm! The research is driver by your interests and geared toward maximizing total
performance in your fields. Designate the some of your acres you want to utilize for testing, and for a small per acre fee we’ll do the rest.
RD MAXIMUM ECONOMIC YIELDMany people talk about achieving yields of 100 bushels per acre in growing soybeans and hitting the 300 bushel per acre milestone in corn production. At CVA, we’re not just talking about it - we partner with you in a new and innovative approach to creating a production plan that will attain maximum economic yields. The program is designed to compare the producer’s normal production practices side-by-side with CVA recommendations.
We know that not every acre is built for the 100/300 bushel threshold and that makes us committed to determining the right yield to maximize your profitability and that is what the Maximum Economic Yield(MEY) strategy is all about. RD - Research and Development that is Results Driven!

Seed to Fit Your Operation
GENETIC DEPTHSELECTION
CRITERIA DIVERSITY ENVIRONMENT PERFORMANCE TECHNOLOGY HEALTH
Genetic diversity helps to manage risk, and can be achieved by planting a portfolio of hybrids and varieties. This will increase the ability to consistently meet your field goals.
Soil conditions, fertility, availability of moisture, rotations pattern, tillage practices, plant population and weather patterns all affect the ability of each hybrid or variety to reach its full yield potential. Careful selection of appropriate genetics for each environment will increase the yield potential on your acres.
Consistent yield performance, documented through on-the-farm trials over time, is the best indicator of true yield potential.
Biotechnology provides the ability to protect genetic yield potential and the selection of the right technology traits can mitigate risks from weed competition, as well as insect and disease pressure.
Plant health is increasingly important to achieve consistent yields over time, and to ensure high quality grain at harvest; selection of hybrids and varieties should include a review of susceptibility to prevalent diseases, rots or wilts.

Today, more than ever, it is important to understand the unique challenges within your field as you prepare for each season. The first step in this learning process is to develop a management program designed to maximize the yield potential on your acres.
To assist you in developing this program, CVA has created a Whole Farm Planning Guide. This guide contains key management options to be considered ahead of time, which allows genetic and technology choices to be matched with those options. Your Field Sales Agronomist (FSA) will assist you in identifying important factors that may limit the profitability of your fields and provide the appropriate solutions to enhance potential yields and maximize returns.
Benefits of Whole farm planning
include the following:
• Development of field plans (seed, traits, fertility, weed control, insect control, disease control, tillage, water, crop rotation, cover crops, maps, prescription crop nutrients
• Regulatory reporting and Risk management/loss mitigation suggestions
• Variable rate planning recommendations
• Scouting and monitoring your crops (satellites, drones, onsite field scouting)
• Harvest optimization recommendations
• Water monitoring and Residue management recommendations
• Economic analysis – impact of suggested changes to the crop budget

It’s time to rethink weed control. To think beyond a single season and work towards long-term solutions. It’s time to take action against herbicide-resistant weeds. Controlling herbicide-resistant weeds can be
challenging, but it’s a challenge we can fight together. Take Action is an industry-wide partnership between university weed scientists, major herbicide providers and corn, cotton, sorghum, soy and wheat organizations to help you manage herbicide-resistant weeds.

SOYBEAN GROWTH DEVELOPMENTGrowth and development is divided into two categories, vegetative and reproductive. However, most of the yield potential is established during the vegetative phase. It is important to optimize production practices, pest and nutrient management, earlier in development to maximize yield.

CORN GROWTH DEVELOPMENTHerbicide labels refer to the stage of development of corn based on plant height or leaf stage. Corn height is generally defined as “free standing” or the height of the arch of the highest leaf that is at least 50% developed. Corn height is less accurate than leaf number when determining growth stage. However, there are several different methods of counting leaves.
• Leaf Collar Method: This staging method is the most common on labels. Count all leaves including the first leaf with a rounded tip which have formed a visible collar.
• Indicator Leaf or Horizontal Leaf Method: Counts all leaves, including the first leaf, to the indicator leaf-the uppermost leaf that is 50% exposed from the whorl and whose tip points below a horizontal line. Used by hail insurance adjusters.
• Visible True Leaf Method: Does not count the first leaf with the rounded tip. Method used on some herbicide labels.
VEGETATIVE STAGESVE Spike Stage - Emergence of the coleoptile above the soil surface.
V1 First Leaf - Emerges form coleoptile with rounded tip. Some herbicide labels do not count this leaf as a “true leaf.”
V3 Ear established.
V7 Number of kernel rows determined.
V10 Number of kernels per row determined.
VT Tassel (VT)-bottom-most branch of tassel completely visible and silk has not emerged.
REPRODUCTIVE STAGESR1 Silking - Silks visible outside husks.
Pollination - Most critical period of yield potential.
R2 Blister - Kernels white on outside, clear liquid inside.
R3 Milk - Kernel yellow outside, milky white fluid inside.
R4 Dough - Kernel fluid thick/pasty, cob pink or red.
R5 Dent - Most kernels at least partially dented.
R6 Physiological Maturity - Milk line no longer evident, black layer formed. Maximum dry weight is attained.Adapted from: Corn Growth and Development Iowa State University Extension and University of Illinois Extension.

2 qt/Ton.5 gal/100 gal
By working to shield nitrogen on a molecular level, NutriSphere-N keeps enzymes at bay so more nitrogen remains in the ammonium form – making it more readily available to plants. And because up to 50% of applied nitrogen can be lost to leaching, volatilization and denitrification, it’s important to choose the stabilizer proven to defend nitrogen against all three forms of loss. Use 2 quart per ton on dry fertilizer and .5% of tank mix with liquid fertilizer.
2 qt/Ton.5 gal/100 gal
By shielding applied phosphorus from the elements that lock it in the soil, more of it is kept available to the growing plant. This added efficiency can lead to healthier plants, more flexibility in your application schedule and better overall value from your fertilizer investment. Use 1 quart per ton on dry fertilizer and .5% of tank mix with liquid fertilizer.
18oz/AcreNEW - High volume formulation. For stabilizing liquid UAN Fertilizer from leaching, volitization and de-nitrification convenent. 18 oz/acre rate for high-volume 40 gal +/ac UAN applications.
