I. APPROVAL OF MINUTES
The October 22, 2012 minutes were approved. II.a. ARTICULATION OFFICER REPORT
Leonor Aguilera Reported Course Identification Numbering System (C‐ID) November Updates: Presently there are ninety (90) California Community Colleges with approved C‐ID numbers; the
top three (3) California Community Colleges are Santa Rosa (102), American River (79), and
Hartnell College (53). Eleven (11) California State Universities have indentified 937 courses as
comparable to C‐ID descriptors. Three hundred forty‐six (346) C‐ID descriptors have been
approved across 30 disciplines. The average time for a course to gain C‐ID approval on the first
submission is 25 days providing that there are reviewers in place. The Anthropology, Biology
and Kinesiology disciplines re‐posted C‐ID descriptors for additional vetting through November
15th. The California Community College Chancellor’s Office (CCCCO) will be sending a memo to
chief instructional officers (CIOs) in the next week with deadlines for new Transfer Model

Curriculum (TMC) degrees and C‐ID approvals. The textbooks rule for C‐ID will be similar to the
GE recommendation; textbooks must be within seven years. Textbooks for courses that
experience extensive content change are recommended to be within five years.
Transfer Model Curriculum (TMC) Updates:
There continues to be 22 finalized TMCs; vetting ended October 31st for Philosophy and
Spanish. TMCs under construction and making progress include Biology, Economics, and
Radio/TV/Film. There are 501 AA‐T and AS‐T degrees approved at the California Community
College Chancellor’s Office.
The Engineering Faculty Discipline Review Group (FDRG) will be posing a proposed Model
Curriculum and course descriptors very soon. The Nursing FDRG will continue their TMC and C‐
ID course descriptors discussion sometime in November.
II.b. STUDENT LEARNING OUTCOMES AND ASSESSMENT UPDATE
Mary Walker reported. Faculty are encouraged to review current Program Student Learning Outcomes (PSLOs), as they
will be added to the catalog and will be visible to the public. The Office of Institutional
Effectiveness is available to provide assistance. A request was made that
departments/programs post PSLOs on their websites. The administration is working on writing
a clearer definition of program.
II.c. ACCREDITATION UPDATE
Aracely Mora reported. The planning group representing Santiago Canyon College (SCC) continues to meet. The group has gone through the second draft of the planning manual.
III. CurricUNET UPDATE AND TRAINING
Craig Rutan reported. The cost to upgrade Santiago Canyon College’s CurricUNET system is $15,000. Aracely Mora is looking into the use of technology funds for this purpose. Once money is allocated, planning for the implementation will take place. More information will be provided as it becomes available.

VIII. ANNOUNCEMENTS
Rick Beesmer, David Lawhorn, Eliz Mounsey, Mike Rivers and Jamie Robison, representatives from five of the training trusts, were introduced and thanked for their attendance and participation. Jamie Robison from the Southwest Carpenters Training Trust presented on the United Brotherhood of Carpenters programs. (Refer to PowerPoint presentation on pages 30-33) Most carpentry programs can be completed in three to four years, with the Millwright program having a five year completion time. Worker’s rights and sexism were discussed. The topic is included in the apprenticeship carpentry orientation classes. A journeyman was defined as someone who has completed an apprenticeship program. Contractors require that journeymen take health and safety courses. SCC collects apportionment for journeymen courses but does not collect on courses provided to apprentices. Courses for journeyman include a “J” in the course number and the word “Journeyman” in the title. Santa Ana College voted down the Policy for Temporary Suspension of Courses. The Fall Plenary Session will take place this Thursday, November 8th through Saturday, November 10th in Irvine. Please send any comments regarding resolutions to Corinna Evett. Under the authority of the Academic Senate the Curriculum and Instruction Council (CIC) is responsible for the approval of prerequisites. Please expect an upcoming discussion at the next CIC meeting regarding prerequisites for Mathematics 203. The meeting was adjourned at 3:52pm.

Grading* SLO 2 seems to be written as an objective, can it be reworded?
D. Martino Change to: "Students will critically analyze how choices regarding their health impact their quality of life."
10/31/2012
* Instructional Methods section seems pretty vague and very instuctor-centered rather than student-centered.
Allows for individual instructor creativity. no changes
* Grading: There are 5 exams, 1 midterm, 1 final, can the difference between the exam/midterms here be explained?
Midterm and final are comprehensive. no changes
* Grading: the assignments are given as a point values and the scale is given as a percentage. Can this be cleared up?
Scale represents grades as a percentage of the point value.

Course Materials Textbooks required? A. Varela Corrected. 10/31/2012KIN 200 Methods of Eval,
Instructional MethodsThere seems to be a lot of emphasis in the objectives of students documenting their progress, but this is not reflected in the Methods of Evaluation or the Instruction Methods. I recommend these sections be expanded.
D. Martino Individualized instruction within the course. Add projects into the methods of evaluation section.

KIN 100 SLO, Grading, Course Cover, Distance Education
SLO assessments are listed as "self-evaluations." I recommend expanding this to an instructor lead method.
D. Martino Add pre-test/post-test. Make SLO 1 become SLO2 Remove previous SLO2 Add SLO #1 : Students will demonstrate knowledge of the movement of the body and how it relates to physical activity, exercise, sport and health and disease prevention."
11/1/2012
Recommend the grading scale be a range rather than "above xx% = grade"
OK no changes
If field trips are a possibility we need to have it mentioned in the catalogue entry
Pull "field trips" 10/31/2012
Distance Ed: can the equipment/text areas be expanded and the instuctor contact hours might need to be reworded. I don't think want to imply videos are replacing the instructor.
Add to say: "At minimum, weekly feedback and/or scores given on all assignments. Homework assignments will provide regular effective contact between the instructor and the individual student."
11/1/2012
Distance Education "Kinesiolology" should be corrected to Kinesiology. In the Dist. Ed. Addendum, under any special text or equipment, it should be listed "A computer with internet and email access is required." Since students will be listening to podcasts/videos, will any special software be needed, i.e., will students need iTunes, quicktime, or access to you tube? Further information for the proceeding question as well.
D. Diaz Correct spelling. Add into course material - A computer with internet and email access is required. Remove the section on podcasts and video clips.

ultimatley going to get and be able to do after they have carried‐out all the learning
