LAURIE ROYCROFT - SERVICE MEMBER

In 2017 I retired from the NZ Police after 42 years service. Before joining the Police I qualified as a Joiner and have maintained an interest in the building industry having built two houses for myself.

I have been elected to the Executive for two years. I was appointed to the position of Repairs and Maintenance officer for the past year and as part of this portfolio chair a subcommittee looking at recent and future development of our RSA keeping in mind the successes and pitfalls of other clubs. My building skills help with this position. I am a trustee to the TARSA Poppy Trust and I am pleased to be further involved with the organisation. Let my peers judge me. Please inquire with the serving Executive members to ascertain whether they consider that I have made, and will continue to make, valuable contributions to the Executive. I believe I have proven that I am a worthy executive member, being open and honest with members and represented the TARSA to the best of my ability.

CAMERON STAPLETON - RETURNED MEMBER

As a returned serviceman (Captain) from 161 Bty, 16 Fd Regt, RNZA, I am passionate about everything I do and take on all challenges with a hands on approach. During my 8 years in RNZA, as a Forward Observer, I was privileged to complete a tour of duty

in Afghanistan in 2005 (Crib 6). I have enjoyed getting to know the people of the Te Awamutu RSA during the past 7 years. Over this time, I have become acutely aware of the services that the RSA offers to our community and in particular returned service people of all ages and ranks. My motivation for joining the committee last year was to represent members (and their families) from our more recent operational and domestic service and provide them with a voice, as I believe my skills and knowledge will be of value to the organisation. I am also very keen to learn from and support returning committee members who have already dedicated so much of their time to the RSA and our community. I hope that you will allow me to continue my service on the committee over the next 12 months. Personally, I am married to a lovely woman Catherine, from Cambridge and we have two young children, Imogen (5) and Myles (1). President’s Annual Report 2019

The Te Awamutu District and Memorial Returned and Services Association has had a very progressive and momentous growth period during the past year. The current Executive Committee have made a strong and positive contribution to our Club and hopefully many will be available for the next Term of Office. The Club held a Special General Meeting in October which supported the construction of the Centennial Deck to replace the Rose Garden. Construction of the Deck was a major lift to our Club’s public profile. Special thanks goes to all members and businesses who donated time, ef-fort and supplies. Terry Findlay, Laurie Roycroft, Bill Hooker, Martin Frew, Graham Smith, Bill Kewish were members who made huge contributions and insured construction continuity and kept costs below budget. A very special effort, thank you. Tracey Delaney relinquished her Kitchen Contract and we employed Les Marston Catering as her replacement. Les has proved to be very organised and professional while improving the quality and the availability of food and the menus. Les is a major asset and contributor to our Club’s profile. Thanks Les. The Deck was completed in late February. The furniture was constructed and most of the cost was donated by Sections and members. After a few minor set-backs, the extended Club Licence was awarded and members and their guests now are using the facility. The Club commemorated our Centenary during late March, which was successfully organized by a committee which was chaired by Terry Findlay. The new water feature and Centennial Deck were unveiled and officially opened by John Smith the National RSA Vice-President, Barbara Kuriger MP and Clive Collingwood District RSA President. The commemoration events were very successful and well attended by members and guests.

The Executive has formed two major committees to insure that we continue to progress in an orderly and professional manner. Currently, Laurie Roycroft, Terry Findlay and Clinton Moorhead lead the Future Projects Planning Committee with the power to co-opt other members. Cam Stapleton, Bill Lyford, Peter Watson and myself lead the Financial Project Viability and Funding Committee, also with the power to co-opt other members. The combined results will be presented to our Executive Committee and the preferred options will be made available to our general membership for discussion and ratification. Our RSA has had successful Dawn and Civic Anzac Services. A special thanks to the Te Awamutu Community Cadets and Major Richard Thompson for supplying the Catafalque Party on Anzac Day, as well as at the Pukeatua and Tokanui Services. A major Army Service reunion was held 3rd to 5th May at our RSA and was very successful. The contract to remove the Rewi Street house was finally honoured by Uplifting Homes Ltd and the site is, at present, being cleaned and prepared for future use. The Te Awamutu District and Memorial Returned and Services Association has during the year increased membership and improved our Cash Flow, especially since 1st January this year. As a result, I am sure that with careful management, the trend will continue and our Club members will benefit from improved facilities and services. Finally, a very special thanks to our loyal staff. Bill Lyford has served our Club

for 22 years. Valda Davidson continues to lead our Bar Staff team by exam-

ple, to Jim Perkins for all his extra effort and commitment beyond his con-

tract. I would also like to take this opportunity to especially thank our current

Executive Committee for their commitment to our Club.

Members are encouraged to vote for your Executive Committee and attend

our Annual General meeting which will be held on Sunday 30th June at

1.00pm in our RSA Clubrooms.

RAEWYN MARTIN - MEMBER

For those that don’t know me I have been a Member of this RSA for the past twelve years. At present I am the President of the Women’s Section and was Secretary before that. I have enjoyed my year on the Executive Committee. I was on the sub Committee to organise the 100th year

celebrations which I really liked being involved in. I organize the Helpers for Poppy Day each year. I am very passionate about the RSA and would like to be part of the team taking

our club into the future.

CLINTON MOORHEAD - MEMBER

I am standing for the Executive Committee as a member of the

group of younger Associate Members, because I believe that it is

the active involvement of that age group which will carry our club

into the next 10 years. I believe that our club must survive into

the future for the preservation of our Core Values and the best

way to do that is to continue to plan for its development as one

of the social venues of choice in our growing community. On my own account, and

through my extended family, I have had a long and interesting involvement in the

club and, if elected, I look forward to contributing positively to its future.

RAYMOND PROUDE—MEMBER

My name is Raymond Charles Proude / Charlie Proude, born in Raetahi in 1957. I come from a farming background and moved to

Te Awamutu in 1977. I joined the RSA 5 years ago and love

the place, awesome people. Want to see the place go

forward and up and have some ideas to share. I now work

for Inframax in Te Kuiti in construction.

TERRY FINDLAY - RETURNED MEMBER

I have a good knowledge of the functions of the Returned and Services Association at club, district and national levels. I have served on our Executive for some years now, and I feel I still have a lot to offer. This club has been progressing well

over the past years and we are in a sound financial position. Quite a few RSAs have got themselves in financial difficulties by carrying out large alterations. I will continue to seek to improve our club rooms that we all enjoy, but only by doing what we can without jeopardising the financial position of the RSA. The makeup of the new Executive is in the hands of the members, your vote is important to who governs this club and which direction you wish to go to.

LOIS KNIGHT - MEMBER

It has been a privilege to serve two years on the Executive and am keen to continue in this important role. I have a background working for Incorporated Societies. Having a special interest in Rules and their application I am

aware of the importance of wise decision making. I am willing to listen to members’ concerns. A team player and enjoy the interaction with Club staff and members. Recently I was appointed to the Ivor Stickley Trust.

ANN LINCOLN - MEMBER

I have been a member for more the 25 years and have been on the Executive Committee for 4 years, I am really enjoying the experience and have learnt so much. I am also on the Entertainment Committee and help out on Poppy Day as well as being very involved with the Children’s Christmas Party, which includes buying the children’s treats as well as helping on the

day. I am a very enthusiastic rugby supporter and love going horse racing when I can. I would like to see the continued growth of our Club and encourage friends to come and enjoy the ambience of our RSA with the possibility to join us. I would also like to see more improvements to our premises and I am always mindful of what the RSA stands for.

MURRAY CLIFFORD - MEMBER

My name is Murray Clifford and I am proud to say I have been a member of the Te Awamutu RSA for round 5 years now and believe now is the time for me to become more actively involved in an iconic New Zealand institution that values the sacrifices made by many to se-cure a future for the many generations that have fol-lowed. I am a father of 3 girls and my father was a WW2 returned service member so my responsibilities as a fa-

ther, son and New Zealander is to support a club that values its community and genuinely cares for the people in it. Being part of the Executive committee will enable me to become more actively involved in a progressive club that focuses on the needs of its community and member base. Recently I was given the opportunity to be involved with the construction of the deck. Being a part of this project enabled me to support the future growth of the club and have seen it prosper. I can offer the executive committee my unbiased and honest opinion and support with future endeavors.

The following personnel are standing for Committee only.

LYN DICKIE—MEMBER My name is Lyn Dickie and I am a member of Te Awamutu RSA and Women’s Section. Before moving to Te Awamutu 6 years ago, I worked for a Maori Health Provider in Taumarunui for 15 years. My work was mostly in Administration, and Management, and in the last 5-6 years before I retired I was in charge of our Budget Service with a staff of 5 other Budget Advisors.

I am passionate about the welfare of our Veterans and their families. I wish to support them in any way I can. Now we are working alongside some of our younger Veterans. Being able to help someone less fortunate than yourself is very humbling. I enjoy visiting our Veterans, Widows and Widowers that are in Rest homes. One of our objectives from our Women’s Section Rules states: “To provide for and foster social meetings for the general welfare of members, dependants, relatives, widows and widowers of members or former members of the Association, and of men and women serving with the armed forces of New Zealand.” My Grandfather was a WW1 Veteran and my Father a WW2 veteran. I have put my name forward for the Executive because I feel I have the skills necessary to carry out the duties required, and I am sure that I can enhance what our Executive is wanting to achieve.

GRAHAM SMITH - MEMBER

Standing for Vice President and Committee

As a member of the Te Awamutu RSA Executive for the second year, I have been privileged to be involved in some important decision making during the year. Once again I have stood behind my pledge to work for the bet-terment of Club facilities for members in that I was able to work alongside others to build our Centennial Deck and paint the ex-

terior of the building. Should I be re-elected to the Executive for the coming year I shall continue to work to improve facilities for members. This coming year will be filled with challenges for the Executive, but by adopting a common-sense approach to the improvement and expansion of the Clubrooms, I am sure our membership, both current and future, will be well pleased. I aim to promote transparency in the improvement plans for members. During my time with the RSA, my most significant contributions have been:-

MC for the Children’s Party each December. Regular Custodian of the Jokers Wild table on Friday evenings. A tireless helper with the setting up and clean up of the Anzac Parade and the crosses at Anzac Green and the Cemetery. MC at the ANZAC Civil Ceremony and the Centennial Celebrations. A member of the Indoor Bowls Club .

Last year I finished off my profile with the following statement: “I believe that the encouragement of younger members is a positive strategy for the continued increase in RSA membership, and as a member of the Executive, I shall continue to work with, and support the Executive in all our endeavours to

PROFILES OF MEMBERS STANDING FOR THE EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE 2019/20

PETER WATSON - MEMBER

Standing for President and Committee

Over the 7 years on the executive I have always listened to the members and have voiced the thoughts of the members at the Executive meetings. I have attended several National RSA Conferences, Chartered Clubs Conference & District meetings and have learnt through these experiences. We need to move forward and make improvements in “Our Club

Facilities” without incurring a huge debt. It would be great to continue to grow the safe, friendly, family atmosphere that we have currently. The most important point for me personally, is to up hold the identity, and Integrity of the RSA. Our club is very strong with the value of “People helping People”. We are the guardian’s of Remembrance for the Waipa District.

LOU BROWN - RETURNED MEMBER

Standing for President

The Te Awamutu District and Memorial Returned and Services Association continues to grow from strength to strength. We have an active membership that is both forward thinking and supportive of each other, which I believe confirms the RSA motto of “People Helping People”. The greatest strength of our

club is undeniably our members and we must continue to support our local veter-ans young and old, as this is what the RSA is founded upon. I am a third generation Returned Service Member of the Te Awamutu RSA. I have

always felt that it is my duty and privilege to give back to my community through

service and have done this through my involvement in many different

associations. I am passionate about Te Awamutu RSA maintaining the strong and

positive direction that we currently have, and would be honoured to continue as

President and help lead our RSA into an exciting future while upholding our Core

Values.
