Dylan Wint, MD

Dr. Wint joined the staff at the Lou Ruvo Center for Brain Health in May 2010. He has extensive experience in researching, diagnosing, and treating disorders of the brain. He has designed and/or participated in research studies of behavioral sequelae of traumatic brain injury, the effects of dopaminergic medications on the human reward system, cognition in schizophrenia, and irritability and aggression in Huntington disease. At the Center for Brain Health, Dr. Wint supervises the Education in Neurodegeneration program for high school, college, and professional students. He also directs the Center’s Fellowship in Cognitive Disorders.

Dr. Wint received his undergraduate and medical degrees at Stanford University and the University of Miami, respectively. After finishing simultaneous residencies in Neurology and Psychiatry at the University of Florida, he completed a fellowship in deep brain stimulation and served on the faculty. During a two-year fellowship at the Section on Integrated Neuroimaging at the National Institutes of Health, Dr. Wint performed studies of the brain’s attentional and reward systems in healthy individuals and those with a variety of brain disorders. He subsequently joined the Emory University Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences. At Emory, he developed the Program in Neurologic Psychiatry, a clinical, research, and educational unit dedicated to optimizing the understanding, diagnosis, and treatment of behavioral problems in patients with neurologic illnesses.

Our PanelistsRichard D. Chatwin is a partner with the law firm Gerrard Cox Larsen. He is a certified specialist with the State Bar of Nevada in Elder Law. He is also the sole Nevada representative with the Special Needs Alliance, a national invitation-only groupof attorneys focusing on special needs issues. Mr. Chatwin is also a Certified Elder Law Attorney with the National Elder Law Foundation. He works extensively with clients who need help with SSI, Medicaid, Veterans and other governmental benefits, as well as special needs planning, estate planning, guardianship, and probate matters. Mr. Chatwin received his B.A. from BYU, and his M.B.A. and J.D. from UNLV.

Brandie Green, currently serves as the Program Director of the Emergency Medical Services Program at the College of Southern Nevada since the Summer of 2013. Prior to assuming an administrative role, she previously instructed full-time within the EMS program at various levels and specialties to include EMT, Advanced EMT, and Critical Care Paramedic. While working for AMR for over 10 years, she extensively obtained knowledge in the Emergency Medical Services field allowing her to pursue instructive positions in higher education as she achieved an innovative certification in Critical Care Paramedicine, and years of experience as a field training officer. In the Fall of 2012, she pursued advanced certification and credentials as a Nationally Certified EMS Educator, and places a high focus on education in the field of prehospital healthcare for Southern Nevada. In addition to her civilian experience, Brandie Green served in the United States Naval Reserve for 8 years as a Mineman achieving such awards as Junior Sailor of the Year – Southwest Region, and Junior Sailor of the Year – Navy Operational Support Center –Las Vegas.

Brandie is currently pursuing a Doctorate in Public Health at Walden University, and completed her graduate studies in PublicAdministration at the University of Las Vegas, Nevada in 2015. She completed her undergraduate coursework in Psychology and Education at Nevada State College, and holds an Associate of Applied Science in Paramedic Medicine from the College of Southern Nevada.

Officer Dana Di Palma has been a police officer with Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department for 14 years. She is currently assigned as one of the Crisis Intervention Team Coordinators (CIT). She is responsible for coordinating all initial CIT courses and CIT re-certification courses. Her prior assignments include patrol, Field Training Officer (FTO), Community OrientedPolicing Officer (COP), and detective in Backgrounds. She also currently serves as an Advisory Board member for TIP (Trauma Intervention Program).

Elizabeth McCurdy’s first 30 years of work concentrated in retail as a department manager. In 2008 she received her Bachelors of Social Work from UNLV and went on to get her Masters in Social Work in 2011. Her first job in Social Work was with a nonprofit for Employment Readiness. She then went on and worked in the rural areas for the State of Nevada as an investigatorin Child Protective Services. In 2011 she transferred to Aging and Disability for the State of Nevada as an Elder Rights Investigator. In 2013 she started as an Elder Rights Supervisor for Intake. As of late last year she has transferred to a Supervisor for Elder Rights Social Workers.

Samantha McLea, MSN, NP-C, Nurse Practitioner is a board-certified family nurse practitioner. She received her Bachelor of Science in nursing in 2004 from Western Michigan University. She had seven years’ experience as a registered nurse prior to completing her Master of Science in nursing/family nurse practitioner at Western University of HealthSciences in 2012.

Ms. Mandarino has worked with the Cleveland Clinic Lou Ruvo Center for Brain Health for more than 10 years. She is an experienced conference organizer having implemented scores of local, regional, national, and international CME conferences and symposiums.

Symposiums include: Leon Thal Symposium for the Prevention of Dementia-2007, 2008, 2009. This series of policy-oriented meetings led by Zaven Khachaturian, PhD significantly influenced the content of the Alzheimer’s Study Group and the National Alzheimer Project Act. Conference outcomes were published in peer-reviewed journals.

Frontotemporal Dementia: The Next Therapeutic Frontier 2011 and Clinical Trials in Frontotemporal Degeneration and Related Disorders 2011 were a series of conferences focusing on tau therapeutics and tau-related animal models. The conference resulted in a white paper and was published in a peer-reviewed journal.

Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy (CTE), 2012, was the first national conference on CTE. The 2-day conference featured excellent speakers, including Nobel Prize winning scientist Stanley Pruisner. The dinner speaker for the conference was the Surgeon General of the United States, Regina Benjamin, MD.

Patient Engagement in Clinical Trials, 2013, convened individuals involved in research and advocacy, including Freda C. Lewis-Hall, Executive Vice President and CMO at Pfizer

Global MSA Research Roadmap Meeting, 2014, included researchers from 4 continents, 12 countries, 30 academic institutions, 15 industry entities and the NIH, including the Acting Director of NINDS, Walter Koroshetz, as Keynote and meeting Advisory Committee member, to develop a new Research Roadmap and initiate the GMSAT.

In addition, Ms. Mandarino organizes two regional CME conferences per year: Advancing Neurological Therapeutics and Dementia. She also leads the Dementia Friendly Southern Nevada Advocacy Group in Las Vegas, NV. The Dementia Training for First Responders education video is one of the outcomes of the Dementia Friendly Nevada project in which she is involved.
