This year we have been growing our friendship circle and are delighted to have made some great new friends. Design partner, The Bigger Boat are the people behind all the wonderful, new design work. Their valuable input and patience has been greatly appreciated by the team! We’re also happy to be working with Swinton Insurance and Holdsworth House Hotel. Not forgetting our loyal friends too! Printout Printers are back on board as official print partners and Pulse Radio are official media partners again for a second year. Also, where would the Festival be without its alpacas? County Alpacas are with us again and evenprovided us with the star of the posters and this brochure! We would also like to say an especially large Thank You to the marketing teams at The Victoria Theatre, Square Chapel, The Piece Hall and the MBi Shay Stadium, as well as Visit Calderdale and Marketing Halifax, who have worked hard to promote the festival throughout the town and region.

In this brand new show, Edinburgh Award winner, Russell Kane unleashes another blisteringly-funny award-winning stand up performance about growing up and growing down. Multi-award winning comedian, presenter, actor, author and scriptwriter Russell Kane is best known as the host of three series of BBC3‘s Live At The Electric, regular appearances on BBC1’s Live At Apollo, BBC3’s Unzipped, ITV2’s Celebrity Juice and I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out of Here! Now!

His second DVD Russell Kane Live was recorded in the West End at the Vaudeville Theatre and released by Universal Pictures in 2015.

‘One of the quickest, most stimulating stand-ups in the land’ Evening Standard

Nutty Roast at Square Chapel brings together a very eclectic range of comedians, under the guidance of MC Tony Vino and featuring Addy Van Der Borgh, Tanyalee Davis and Lynne Ruth Miller.

First up, observational comedian Addy Van Der Borgh is proud to bring to life the worlds of the nerd. Next is Tanyalee Davis who at 3’ 6”, describes herself as the ‘Ferrari of Comedy’, low to the ground and kind of racy! Last but not least is Lynne Ruth Miller, the oldest performing stand up female comedian at 82! She’s the poster girl for growing old disgracefully.

As the MC, Tony Vino will bring the whole evening together with his friendly humor, and quick witted audience repartee. Come along for an evening you’ll never forget!

Publican. Politician. Other thing beginning with P. Philosopher, yeah, that. The nation’s critically acclaimed bar-based-braveheart, Al Murray - The Pub Landlord embarks on a common sense campaign to re-Great Britain in his brand new show.

We live in troubling times. Europe. The NHS. Whatever the hell is going on in the Middle East. The gathering storm of fortnightly bin collections? Who knows where it will all end?

Take a look back at the history of film comedy, from Buster Keaton to Tommy Cooper in this triple bill of films from the archive.

We start with the master of sight comedy, Buster Keaton in the 1922 film ‘Cops’ with Keaton at the height of his comedic powers.

Then we move on to the 1947 flick, ‘School for Postmen’ from Jacques Tati, showing the skill and humour of life in a rural post office.

These two films are both under 20 minutes long, perfectly formed for laughs.

Finally, we will be showing ‘The Plank’ starring Tommy Cooper and Eric Sykes. This film is clowning at its finest, with the pair attempting to get a plank of wood across town, with the plank having other ideas.

These three films are perfect examples of the development of comedy and are perfect for anyone of any age who wants to learn more about comedy.

The first two films are one-reelers lasting under 20 minutes; the final film runs just under an hour.

Kick back in the relaxing atmosphere of The Wellington Rooms, and enjoy three great comedians.

You may have seen Gary Delaney on shows such as Mock the Week and A League of Their Own, with his razor-sharp one liners lighting up the stage.

Jet setting Daliso Chaponda, who has performed across the UK, Africa, Asia and Australia will also be bringing his cheeky and super polished act to the Wellington Rooms.

Finally, Tony Vino will be getting everyone involved in his friendly and well thought out routine, with audience interactions throughout.

Get your tickets for a chilled out evening in a chilled out space!

Two, by Jim Cartwright, is a wonderful ‘two hander’ play featuring numerous characters played by just two actors.

The story follows the everyday comings and goings in a northern public house. We meet various characters along the way and have an interesting look into the lives of the kind of people we meet every day.

Stand-up comedy is a craft that can be taught. This two day intensive workshop is intended to bring out the inner funny in participants!

All you need is ideas, and lots of them. The workshop will cover joke construction, personae, creating gags and routines, improve, stage presence and all you need to be a professional stand-up comic. It will culminate in a five minute routine performance.

Marc Blake is the author of How to be a Comedy Writer, How Not to write Sitcom and Writing the Comedy Movie. He was a professional stand-up comedian for over twenty years and has written for many comedians.

The craft of making people laugh is one that takes many years to hone - and you can start here.

The Festival is delighted to team up again with our friends in the Westgate Wine & Cheese Company.

As you tickle your taste buds, why not let famous musical director Pete Golding (who has worked with a galaxy of stars including Liza Minnelli and Sir Elton John) and Neil Hurst (who has worked with Bob Monkhouse and Michael Ball) feed your eyes and ears as they perform some of the funniest comic ditties ever penned.

A perfect afternoon treat, all in comfort of one of Halifax’s finest quality eateries.

Come along to the MBi Shay Stadium for a night of variety, with a little bit for everyone to enjoy!

MC Dom Woodward will keep the night going with his running list of what annoys him most (he used to work at McDonald’s so has a lot to say!).

Former clown Seymour Mace will keep things a little surreal with his odd but compelling routine, while 2014 Leicester Comedian of the Year Kate Lucas will serenade us with her deliciously dark songs.

South African comedian Cokey Falkow, the edgiest comedian in South Africa, will finish off the evening with his raunchily hilarious routine.
