Welcome
Welcome to St. James’, especially if you are a newcomer or visitor. Children of all ages
are fully welcome at every liturgy. We hope that you will enjoy your visit here with us.
Please help us to get to know you by introducing yourself to one of the clergy.
VISION STATEMENT
Discovering the beauty of holiness in our lives and neighbourhood, by living a
Christ-centred sacramental life rooted in the Anglo-Catholic tradition.
MISSION OBJECTIVES
•To be a beacon for all as a neighbourhood and destination church where we invite and
welcome friends, family and strangers into our midst;
• To deepen our life of prayer and formation in Christ;
• To develop relationships and fellowship in open, honest and spiritual ways among
parishioners, with our neighbours, and those in need;
• To pursue and practice justice and mercy for the imparting of the Kingdom of God
within and beyond the Parish;
• To maintain financial equilibrium, develop our reserves and optimize the use of our
assets to ensure the preservation of our sacred space and ministry from generation to
generation, to the everlasting glory of God.

Before Mass
If you require assistance at any time, please speak to one of the welcomers at the
Church entrance (narthex).
As a friendly reminder, please turn off all electronic devices that might disrupt worship.
In the interest of security, please keep purses and other valuables with you at all times.
Wireless hearing amplifiers are available.
Washrooms can be accessed through the doors on the left hand side at the back of the
church on the opposite side to the entrance.
Your family is welcome at St. James’. Children may remain in the Church during the
service: there is a play area with toys and colouring books in the back of the church.
The sacrament of reconciliation (confession) is available. Speak with a priest to make
an appointment.
The Mass booklet contains all the prayers and information required to participate in the
Mass.
The directions given in this booklet to stand, sit and kneel are offered as guidelines to
those who are able. The symbol + indicates when to make the sign of the cross. It is also
customary to make a discreet bow at the name of Jesus.
You are encouraged to take the opportunity before Mass for silence, stillness and
prayer. Please refrain from talking before Mass begins.
We adore you,
most Holy Lord Jesus Christ
here and in all your churches throughout all the world;
and we bless you because
by your Holy Cross
you have redeemed the world.

A Reflection
A READING FROM THE LIVES OF THE SAINTS
Pour down, O heavens, from above,
and let the skies rain down righteousness.
Turn your fierce anger form us, O Lord,
and remember not our sins for ever.
Your holy cities have become a desert,
Zion a wilderness, Jerusalem a desolation;
our holy and beautiful house,
where our fathers+ praised you.
Pour down, O heavens, from above,
and let the skies rain down righteousness.
We have sinned and become like one who is unclean;
we have all withered like a leaf,
and our iniquities like the wind have swept us away.
You have hidden your face from us,
and abandoned us to our iniquities.
Pour down, O heavens, from above,
and let the skies rain down righteousness.
You are my witnesses, says the Lord,
and my servant whom I have chosen,
that you may know me and believe me.
I myself am the Lord, and none but I can deliver;
what my hand holds, none can snatch away.
Pour down, O heavens, from above,
and let the skies rain down righteousness.
Comfort my people, comfort them;
my salvation shall not be delayed.
I have swept your offences away like a cloud;
fear not, for I will save you.
I am the Lord your God, the Holy One of Israel,
your redeemer.
Pour down, O heavens, from above,
and let the skies rain down righteousness.

THE COLLECT OF THE DAY
Celebrant The Lord be with you.
All And with thy spirit.
Celebrant Let us pray.
Almighty God,
give us grace to cast away the works of darkness
and put on the armour of light,
now in the time of this mortal life
in which thy Son Jesus Christ came to us in great humility,
that on the last day,
when he shall come again in his glorious majesty to judge both the living and the dead,
we may rise to the life immortal;
through him who liveth and reigneth with thee and the Holy Spirit,
one God, world without end.
All Amen.
The Liturgy of the Word
THE OLD TESTAMENT READING Be seated
Reader A reading from the Book of Jeremiah.
The days are surely coming, says the Lord, when I will fulfil the promise I made to the
house of Israel and the house of Judah. In those days and at that time I will cause a
righteous Branch to spring up for David; and he shall execute justice and righteousness
in the land. In those days Judah will be saved and Jerusalem will live in safety. And this
is the name by which it will be called: "The Lord is our righteousness."
Jeremiah 33:14-16
Reader The word of the Lord. lllAll Thanks be to God.
HIGH MASS | 11
THE PSALM A cantor sings the antiphon first; the people repeat it thereafter.
Show me your ways, O Lord, and teach me your paths.
Lead me in your truth and teach me, for you are the God of my salvation; in you have I
trusted all the day long. Antiphon
Remember, O Lord, your compassion and love, for they are from everlasting.
Remember not the sins of my youth and my transgressions; remember me according to
your love and for the sake of your goodness, O Lord. Antiphon Psalm 25:3-6
THE EPISTLE READING
Sub-deacon A reading from the Letter of Paul to the Thessalonians.
How can we thank God enough for you in return for all the joy that we feel before our
God because of you? Night and day we pray most earnestly that we may see you face to
face and restore whatever is lacking in your faith. Now may our God and Father himself
and our Lord Jesus direct our way to you. And may the Lord make you increase and
abound in love for one another and for all, just as we abound in love for you. And may
he so strengthen your hearts in holiness that you may be blameless before our God and
Father at the coming of our Lord Jesus with all his saints. 1 Thessalonians 3:9-13
Sub-deacon The word of the Lord.
lllAll Thanks be to God.
ALLELUIA A cantor begins the alleluia; all repeat it thereafter. Stand
Alleluia. Show us thy mercy, O Lord, and grant us thy salvation. Alleluia. Surely his
salvation is nigh them that fear him; that glory may dwell in our land. Alleluia.

THE HOLY GOSPEL All stand and turn to face the book of the Gospels
Jesus said, "There will be signs in the sun, the moon, and the stars, and on the earth
distress among nations confused by the roaring of the sea and the waves. People will
faint from fear and foreboding of what is coming upon the world, for the powers of the
heavens will be shaken. Then they will see 'the Son of Man coming in a cloud' with
power and great glory. Now when these things begin to take place, stand up and raise
your heads, because your redemption is drawing near." Then he told them a parable:
"Look at the fig tree and all the trees; as soon as they sprout leaves you can see for
yourselves and know that summer is already near. So also, when you see these things
taking place, you know that the kingdom of God is near. Truly I tell you, this generation
will not pass away until all things have taken place. Heaven and earth will pass away, but
my words will not pass away. Be on guard so that your hearts are not weighed down
with dissipation and drunkenness and the worries of this life, and that day catch you
unexpectedly, like a trap. For it will come upon all who live on the face of the whole
earth. Be alert at all times, praying that you may have the strength to escape all these
things that will take place, and to stand before the Son of Man." Luke 21:25-36

THE PRAYER OF CONSECRATION Kneel
Celebrant Blessing and glory and thanksgiving be unto thee, almighty God, our heavenly
Father, who of thy tender mercy didst give thine only Son Jesus Christ to take our
nature upon him, and to suffer death upon the cross for our redemption;
who made there, by his one oblation of himself once offered, a full, perfect, and
sufficient sacrifice, oblation, and satisfaction, for the sins of the whole world; and did
institute, and in his holy gospel command us to continue, a perpetual memorial of that
his precious death, until his coming again.
Hear us, O merciful Father, we most humbly beseech thee; and grant that we
receiving these thy creatures of bread and wine, according to thy Son our Saviour Jesus
Christ’s holy institution, in remembrance of his death and passion, may be partakers of
his most blessed body and blood;
who, in the same night that he was betrayed, took bread; and, when he had given thanks,
he brake it; and gave it to his disciples, saying, “Take, eat; this is my body which is given
for you: Do this in remembrance of me.” +
Likewise after supper he took the cup; and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them,
saying, “Drink ye all, of this; for this is my blood of the new covenant, which is shed for
you and for many for the remission of sins: Do this, as oft as ye shall drink it, in
remembrance of me.” +
Wherefore, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, we thy humble servants with all thy
holy Church, remembering the precious death of thy beloved Son, his mighty
resurrection, and glorious ascension, and looking for his coming again in glory, do
make before thee, in this sacrament of the holy bread of eternal life and the cup of
everlasting salvation, the memorial which he hath commanded:
lllAll We praise thee, we bless thee, we thank thee and we pray to thee, Lord our God.
Celebrant And we entirely desire thy fatherly goodness mercifully to accept this our sacrifice of
praise and thanksgiving, most humbly beseeching thee to grant, that by the merits and
death of thy Son Jesus Christ, and through faith in his blood, we and all thy whole
Church may obtain remission of our sins, and all other benefits of his passion; And we
pray that by the power of thy Holy Spirit, all we who are partakers of this holy
communion may be fulfilled with thy grace + and heavenly benediction; through Jesus
Christ our Lord, by whom and with whom, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, all honour
and glory be unto thee, O Father Almighty, world without end.
lllAll Amen.

Formation on Sundays - Music of Advent Series
Advent is a season that reflects upon and hopes for the final coming of Christ. This
series focuses on the music of the Advent season. The musical tradition helps build the
anticipation of the faithful and expresses their deepest longings for the second advent of
Jesus. Simultaneously we look toward the celebration of the Incarnation, or the first
advent. This year, Old Testament readings from the Mass come from the prophets. In
our first talk, we examine the prophetic texts that inform Advent hymns. In the second,
Bishop Michael will present a session further exploring the music of Advent. In the
third week, we will explore the “Advent Prose” which is a moving text sung by the choir.
This compilation of texts from the prophet Isaiah consists of lyrical laments which ask
God to remember his people. It concludes with words of God’s comfort. The last session
will treat the “O” antiphons. This series of seven pleas (e.g. “O Come, O Come
Emmanuel”) is prayed from December 16th to the 24th. Thus we explore how the music
of Advent supports the liturgy of the season.

The work of the committee continues to move
forward. Two of the three candidates for the position
of Development Consultant have been interviewed
and a third is scheduled for later this month. It is
anticipated that a selection will be made by year end
with work to begin early in the year.
Donations for funding this process are still needed.
They can be made payable to St. James Parish
Foundation and are tax deductible.

[email protected] or in writing to the office.
COOPER PLACE PARKING
December 1, 2012-November 30, 2013.
This is for everyone who has a Parking Fob for
Cooper Place.
Many of you have been asking when the money is due
for the annual parking fee for Cooper Place parking.
The answer is – now.
The Trustees have set the Parking Rate as the same as
last year - $125.00/year. As we took all your
information last year, all you need do is to write a
cheque for $125.00, payable to St. James Church –
Parking, add your fob # that you find on the front of
your key fob, and place it in the collection plate or
hand it into to the office. Please do not include this
amount with your regular donation. If you have a fob
that you no longer require, you may turn it in to the
office. If you have any questions about this
parking service a director from St. Luke’s will be
available for the next 2 Sundays to answer your
questions. These directors are, David Agler, Reece
Wrightman, Joyce Locht, Andrew Campbell and John
Van Luven.
WARM SOCKS WANTED
We would welcome donations of warm socks for the
Mission to Seafarers to take to Seafarers in harbour
over the Christmas holidays. Wrapping will take place
on December 14th. St James’ Women’s Guild welcome
help with packing all Diocesan donations. See Mary B
or Janis Waller (about socks).
Thanks,
Mary

HURRICANE SANDY – HOW CAN YOU HELP?
PWRDF is working with The Cuban Council of
Churches (CCC) and Lutheran World Relief
(LWF) in Haiti as they recover from the signifi-
cant damage caused by Hurricane Sandy.
CCC is providing food, water, bedding, hygiene
kits and counsellors to speak with those affected.
CCC is initially targeting 50,000 affected people in
the provinces of Santiago de Cuba, Granma,
Holguin and Las Tunas. LWF reports extensive
damage in Haiti with hundreds of families
homeless and living in temporary shelters.
The Primate’s World Relief and Development
Fund (PWRDF) is accepting donations for this
emergency response. PWRDF contributed an
initial grant of $20,000 to the ACT Alli-
ance response in Cuba.
Please support PWRDF’s response to this ongoing
emergency!
