CHAPTER 1INTRODUCTION

Overview

Advanced Job Scheduler’s graphical user interface (GUI) modernizes the IBM isystems traditional green screen view by displaying information in analternative, easy to understand format that can be accessed from any devicecapable of running an internet browser.

Users can easily connect to multiple IBM i platforms and are provided with aninstant view of the status of all groups and jobs including processes that mighthave failed to complete and need to be resolved as well as details of jobs thatwill run in the future. Where jobs have failed, users can quickly and easilydiagnose if there is a pattern and rectify accordingly.

Graphical User Interface

This version of the software uses a GUI running on a web-browser whichprovides intuitive screens so that users without knowledge of the IBM i platformcan still use the commonly used features of Advanced Job Scheduler.

If jobs have failed to run as expected, IT teams can quickly and easily diagnoseif there is a pattern and rectify accordingly. You can also easily view details ofjobs that will run in the future. Tighter control of operations can be achieved byauthorized staff being able to remotely view and control jobs through the web ortheir mobile devices.

Supported IBM O/S versionAlthough this version of Advanced Job Scheduler runs on a web-browser, theIBM version, to which the GUI connects, must be running on IBM V5R4M0upwards.

Minimum Software and Hardware Requirements

The following are the minimum specifications required for the installation ofHalcyon Advanced Job Scheduler GUI.

System Requirements

Installation server operating system

• Windows Server 2008 Service Pack 2 or higher

Software requirements for Advanced Job Scheduler GUI Installation

Microsoft .Net Framework (v4.6 or higher)In order to run MQ Manager GUI, .Net Framework v4.6 or higher must beinstalled on the server onto which the installation is being implemented. Thiscan be downloaded from:

Note: Installing Microsoft .NET Framework 4.6 requires a reboot of the machine onto which it is installed. This is a requirement of Microsoft, not Halcyon.

Software requirements for Advanced Job Scheduler GUI access

• PC or Apple Mac running one of the following browsers

• Internet Explorer v11.0 or above

• Microsoft Edge

• Mozilla Firefox

• Google Chrome

• Safari

Software requirements for Reporting

To view reports in PDF format you require:

• Adobe PDF Reader v10 or above

Hardware requirements

• Minimum of 512 MB of RAM (2GB or more is recommended)

• At least 2.5GB free hard disk space

• For 32-bit systems:

• Computer with Intel or compatible 1GHz or faster processor (2GHz or faster is recommended.

• For 64-bit systems:

• 1.4 GHz or higher processor

Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS)A general installation of IIS (V6 or higher) is required. This is normallyundertaken by your network administrator or in-house system configurationspecialist.

.NET Framework Requirements (for IIS7 and above)If you are using Windows 8 or above, in order for the Web GUI to functioncorrectly, specific .NET Framework settings must be enabled. To check, oramend the current settings on your system, do the following:

1 From Windows | Start select Control Panel

2 From within the Control Panel select Programs and Features (Add or Remove Programs)

3 From the left-hand navigation panel select ‘Turn Windows features on or off’. The Windows Features dialog box is displayed.

4 Scroll down to Net Framework and ensure .Net Framework 3.5 (includes .Net 2.0 and 3.0) and .Net Framework 4.5 Advanced Services are enabled as in the screenshot below.

IIS World Wide Web Services Requirements Specific IIS World Wide Web Services settings must also be enabled. To check,or amend the current settings on your system, do the following:

1 From Windows | Start select Control Panel

2 From within the Control Panel select Programs and Features (Add or Remove Programs)

3 From the left-hand navigation panel select ‘Turn Windows features on or off’. The Windows Features dialog box is displayed

4 Scroll down to Internet Information Services and expand the folder

5 Expand the World Wide Web Services folder

6 Expand the Application Development Features folder

7 Ensure the following settings are enabled. Change if required: .NET Extensibility 3.5, .NET Extensibility 4.5, ASP.NET 3.5, ASP.NET 4.5, ISAPI Extensions, ISAPI Filters and Server-Side Includes (see screenshot below)

8 Now expand the Common HTTP Features Folder and ensure the following settings are enabled. Change if required. Default Document, Directory Browsing, HTTP Errors, HTTP Redirection and Static Content (See screenshot below)

9 Click OK to save the settings.

Optional: IIS Web Management Tools Requirements Specific IIS Web Management Tools settings may also be enabled. To check,or amend the current settings on your system, do the following:

3 From the left-hand navigation panel select ‘Turn Windows features on or off’. The Windows Features dialog box is displayed

4 Scroll down to Internet Information Services and expand the folder

5 Expand the Web Management Tools folder

6 Ensure the following settings are enabled. Change if required. ISS 6 Management Compatibility, IIS Management Console, IIS Management Scripts and Tools, IIS Management Service

7 Click OK to confirm and save the settings.

IISRESET After setting the Internet Information Services parameters and you mustperform an IISRESET.

To do this:

1 From Windows | Start open the Run dialog from where individual commands can be run.

2 In the Open parameter type IISRESET and click OK.

3 The Command dialog opens and automatically stops and restarts ISS.

Note: An IISRESET resets ALL sites hosted by the Server, not just the Advanced Job Scheduler GUI.

Requirement when restarting Halcyon Monitors

If you restart the Halcyon Monitors on the IBM i you MUST stop and start allHalcyon GUI websites as well. A restart may occur as a result of userintervention, such as ENDMON > STRMON or as part of an upgrade procedure.

If the Halcyon Web Agents are ended, you must also stop the Web GUI websiteand restart it so new connections are initiated. Failure to do so results in theWeb GUI generating an error rather than requesting a new connection betweenthe IBM i and Windows to be opened.

Note: This is not the same as an IISRESET.

Please follow the procedure detailed below.

1 From the Windows button, select Control Panel | Administrative Tools

2 Double-click Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager

3 Expand the current computer settings and expand the Sites folder

4 Right-click on Halcyon Advanced Job Scheduler

5 Click Manage Web Site

6 Click Stop

Note: The above procedure reflects Windows 7. Other versions of Windows may contain slight discrepancies from these instructions.

7 To restart the website, follow the previous instructions to step 6 and then click Start instead of Stop

User Authority Settings

In order to be able to use the Advanced Job Scheduler GUI, the user must begiven sufficient permission authority to Job Scheduler GUI. This is set andmaintained within the Advanced Job Scheduler Work with Authority Settingsrunning on the IBM i.

Note: Please refer to your Halcyon Product Suite User Reference documentation for instructions on how to configure Work with User Authority settings.

1 Download the latest version of the Advanced Job Scheduler GUI from

https://community.helpsystems.com/products-and-downloads/downloads/

2 Double-click the downloaded .exe file to begin the installation of HalcyonAdvanced Job Scheduler GUI.

3 To progress with the installation, the Software Licence Agreement must beaccepted.

Select ‘I accept the terms of the end user license agreement’ and clickNext to continue.

4 On the Welcome dialog click Next to continue.

5 At the Customer Information dialog, enter your User and Company Name.Click Next.

6 On the Choose Destination Location dialog, click Next to accept the defaultlocation of %Program Files%\Halcyon or click Browse to navigate to andselect an alternative directory path (not a compressed drive).

7 At the Setup Type window, highlight Complete and click Next.

8 Review your choices and either click Back to amend previously enteredinformation or click Next to initialize the installation routine and startextracting the installation files.

Note: At this point you may see a reference to a pending reboot – note that Halcyon products don’t require a system reboot but this is a warning that there is a pending one (maybe for Windows updates or another application). Click Yes to continue.

The installation is now complete.

IISRESET following an UpgradeAfter performing an upgrade to the Advanced Job Scheduler GUI you mustperform an IISRESET.

To do this:

1 From Windows | Start open the Run dialog from where individual commands can be run.

2 In the Open parameter type IISRESET and click OK.

3 The Command dialog opens and automatically stops and restarts ISS.

Note: An IISRESET affects ALL sites hosted by the Server, not just the Advanced Job Scheduler GUI.
