FacultyMichele Barnes earned a Masters in Interdisciplinary Studies from Virginia Common-wealth University, has studied with world-renowned calligraphers and has attended several International Calligraphy Conferences. She has exhibited her work in NYC; locally and nationally and her calligraphy has been commissioned by New York Univer-sity and is in many private collections. In addition to her calligraphic work, Michele is an encaustic artist and printmaker. She has taught in both public and private venues and is currently an art educator in Virginia Beach.

Donna Iona Drozda, a widely exhibiting and published painter and author, has art-work in a number of corporate collections and is a frequent presenter of workshops, lectures and classes both locally and nationally. Visit her web site at www.fromwren-house.com.

Rachel Nicole Dunavant earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Crafts and Mate-rial Studies with a focus in ceramic sculpture from Virginia Commonwealth University in 2004. She has taught for Young Rembrandts in Richmond and worked in ceramic studios including Sophia Street Studios where she assisted Raku artist Phil Chapman. She maintained a studio at Fulton Hill and Richmond Pottery and has exhibited in several galleries and exhibitions both locally and nationally. She recently moved to the Virginia Beach area where she is focusing on her ceramic work, continuing her studies and teaching.

Janet Lynn Eggen received a Bachelor of Science degree from Old Dominion Universi-ty and studied at the graduate level at several state universities. She has served as an art instructor of children and adults in Northern Virginia and adult education systems for the past 30 years. She currently works as a full-time artist and teaches privately. Her award-winning oils and watercolors have been exhibited in several art galleries lo-cally, as well as Northern Virginia, Maryland,and North Carolina. Derek Eley received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in photography from Virginia Com-monwealth University and a Master of Fine Arts degree in photography from Savan-nah College of Art and Design. Derek is currently an adjunct photography professor at Thomas Nelson Community College in Hampton, Virginia and was a guest artist for CAC’s Teen Apprenticeship Program in 2007. Rich Gray is a self-taught origami artist who has been folding for over 30 years and has taught numerous classes and workshops. A five year military deployment to Japan fostered his keen awareness and interest in the art of origami

Kim Herman, whose current creative outlet is in altered arts and mixed media, has over 25 years of experience working with children through her own home child care business, as well as Student Art Start, 1st Art and Pre-K programs at CAC. She teach-es numerous classes and workshops for adults and children at CAC and in the local community.

Barbara Kobylinska graduated from the prestigious Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw, Poland where she received her master’s in Graphic Design and Stage and Costume Design. After several years of teaching, designing, and exhibiting her two-dimensional work, Barbara discovered an interest in ceramic media. She has since exhibited in CAC’s New Waves exhibition, is a member of the Ceramics Designers Association and has taught numerous classes at CAC and in the local community.

Kate Kronick is an award-winning artist-photographer and teacher who has worked and exhibited in NYC, locally, and abroad. She holds a bachelor of fine arts degree in photography from New York University and a Master of Fine Arts degree from Old Dominion University/Norfolk State University.

Genez Malebranche has been creating artworks in clay for over 10 years. She has ex-hibited in CAC’s New Waves exhibition and numerous other local and regional shows and galleries. She is the treasurer of the Ceramics Designers Association and special-izes in wheel throwing, hand-building, raku and pit-firings. Recently her work was published in Clay Times Magazine, Sept/Oct. 2006.

Karla Mann holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in drawing and painting from Old Dominion University. She is an experienced teacher, having formerly taught at Tide-water Community College, and is a winner of national and international awards for her figure drawings and paintings. Karla’s work has been published in Color Pencil vol. 5, Creative Minds, and the Daniel Smith Art Supply Catalogue, fall 2005.

Nancy Mansfield holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in art education from the University of Florida. She previously taught at the American College, Lucerne, and is known for her pastel portrait commissions. Nancy currently teaches at Tidewater Community College and is an experienced teacher of both children and adults.

James O’Connor earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in printmaking and the book arts from the University of the Arts. He also received certification from the Italian Gov-ernment as a qualified professional of fresco techniques.

Jacqueline Poutasse trained professionally as a civil engineer draftsperson and has dedicated more than 20 years to her profession as a book artist. From 1995-2000 she had her own bindery in the Ghent area of Norfolk under the name Hummingbird Book-binding. Jackie has been a participant in numerous shows including The Ghent Art Show, Valley Green Gallery Summer Celebration, and Craft Exposure. She has shown at several galleries and has taught many classes locally on the subject of bookbinding and book repair.

Rachel Rodgers is a current Art Educator major at Old Dominion University. She has taught Art Camp at CAC and is currently teaching art at Tidewater Community College’s Montessori School where she hopes to teach the youth in the community to appreciate art and the story it tells.

Ali Rogan an award-winning glass artist and teacher for over 20 years, continues her study at the famed Pilchuck Glass School, Penland School of Crafts and Corning Glass Museum. She has taught for the Governor’s School for the Arts since 1998, is past-president and current board member of Peninsula Glass Guild of Virginia and co-owner of Cristallo Artisans in Newport News.

Elizabeth A. Sawyer received a Bachelor of Arts in studio arts from Mary Washington College in 1998 and studied Studio Production Pottery at Tidewater Community Col-lege from 1998-2001. An award-winning resident artist and instructor at d’Art Center, she has previously been a guest lecturer at Old Dominion University and Governor’s School for the Arts. She has exhibited in both local and regional shows and exhibi-tions.

Dede Schmidt earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts as well as a teaching certificate from Eastern Michigan University. She taught at the Grand Rapids Art Museum in Grand Rapids Michigan. Having shown her work locally as well as nationally, Dede has won awards for her ceramic design and excellent craftsmanship. She most recently won the juror’s choice award in the 2004 Strictly Functional Pottery National.

Martine Strohmeyer received a Masters of Fine Arts from Old Dominion University and is an award winning working and teaching artist. She currently teaches at the Governor’s School for the Arts and has taught in many workshops and classes both locally and nationally at universities and art museums. In 2004 she was recognized as a Distinguished Teacher in the Arts by the National Foundation for Advancement in the Arts in Washington, D.C.

Suzanne Stevens holds a Master of Arts degree and is an award-winning painter and instructor with experience in a variety of media. She is a five-time recipient of the Outstanding Teacher Award at the Governor’s School for the Arts, Richmond, most recently in 2006. Visit her website at www.suzannestevensartist.com.

Registration

CAC Members only may register on September 10th, 2007. You must be an ac-

tive CAC member to register on this day. Non-member registration begins on

September 11th, 2007. Registrations are accepted on a first-come, first-served

basis. Register by telephone (credit card only), by mail or in person. Tuition must

be paid at the time of registration. No student is considered registered until all

fees are paid. We cannot make confirmation calls, however students are notified

in the event of a cancellation.

Registration deadline is 5pm, seven days prior to the course start date.

Payment

Add $15 to listed member price if not a CAC member. Pay by cash, check or

credit card. CAC accepts MasterCard, Visa and American Express. No credit

card purchases under $10. A $35 will be charged for all returned checks.

Refunds

Refunds are available only if a course is cancelled by CAC due to low enrollment.

Students cancelling enrollment before the registration deadline will receive a tu-

ition credit voucher, minus a five dollar processing fee, which can only be applied

to another class at CAC.

Notes

Adult classes are for students ages 17 and up. Adult students provide their own

materials unless otherwise noted. CAC attempts to reschedule any course that

is cancelled. Substitute instructors may be hired without advance notification.

Minimum enrollment for all courses is seven students unless otherwise noted.

Most classes are held at CAC, see course descriptions for exceptions. Class-

room activities may be photographed for CAC promotional use.
