OPERATIONAL TEST: STANDARD GAS FURNACE & LOW NOX MODELS ONLY (SEE SECTION 9.0 FOR ULN MODELS)

EACH UNIT MUST BE TEST RUN TO ASSURE THAT THE UNIT PERFORMS SATISFACTORILY AND THAT THE UNIT ISASSEMBLED USING GOOD WORKMANSHIP.

4.0 FLAME, IGNITION, AND BLOWER TEST. (MAY BE RUN AFTER COOLING MODE (5.0) IF DESIRED)

4.1. CONNECT LINE VOLTAGE TEST LEADS TO CONTACTOR TERMINALS L1 AND L3 FOR SINGLE PHASEUNITS OR L1, L2, AND L3 FOR THREE PHASE UNITS. CONNECT GROUND WIRE TO GROUND LUG IN UNITCONTROL BOX. CONNECT LOW VOLTAGE TEST LEADS TO APPROPRIATE WIRES OR TERMNALS.CONNECT ECONOMIZER TEST BOX TO ECONOMIZER HARNESS IF SO EQUIPPED ON NON-DDC MODELS.

4.2 REMOVE THE DUST CAP FROM THE GAS VALVE INLET.

4.3 CONNECT GAS SUPPLY AND TURN GAS VALVE TO THE "ON" POSITIONNOTE: GAS MUST NOT FLOW THROUGH THE VALVE AT THIS POINT.

4.4 BLOWER OPERATION

4.4.1 CHECK FOR PROPER BLOWER LEAD CONNECTION FOR HEATING AND COOLING OPERATION.CONNECTIONS MUST MATCH ADS-5333-02 IF APPLICABLE TO THE MODEL BEING TESTED.

4.2.2 APPLY LINE VOLTAGE TO UNIT (VOLTAGE = ±10% NAMEPLATE VOLTAGE.(NOTE: WAIT FOR CONTROL BOARD TO INITIALIZE ON DDC MODELS.)

4.4.3 CHECK FOR CONTINUOUS INDOOR BLOWER OPERATION BY CONNECTING THE "RED" AND"BLACK WITH GREEN STRIPE" OR "GRAY" THERMOSTAT PIGTAILS TOGETHER OR TURN BLOWERSWITCH ON THE MOTOR MUST OPERATE.

IF UNIT IS A TWO STAGE LIGHT COMMERCIAL: CONNECT THE ORANGE PIGTAIL TO THE RED AND GRAYPIGTAILS OR IF UNIT IS "DDC" TURN ON THE Y2 SWITCH. AMP'S MUST INCREASE AND STABILIZE.

4.4.4 CHECK FOR PROPER OPERATION OF BLOWER SPEEDS USED IN HEATING OR COOLING FOR THEPARTICULAR MODEL BEING TESTED. (ALL OTHER SPEEDS ARE TESTED BY MOTOR MANUFACTURER.)

4.4.5 DISCONNECT "RED" AND "BLACK WITH GREEN STRIPE" OR "GRAY" THERMOSTAT PIGTAILS FROM EACHOTHER OR BLOWER SWITCH OFF. THE BLOWER MUST STOP.

4.4.6 SECOND STAGE BLOWER TEST MAY BE RUN AT THIS POINT. (SEE SHEET 12)

4.5 FURNACE RUN TEST. (SINGLE STAGE GAS HEAT)

4.5.1 CONNECT "RED" AND "BLACK WITH WHITE STRIPE" THERMOSTAT PIGTAILS TOGETHER OR TURNHEAT SWITCH ON.

4.5.2 INDUCED DRAFT BLOWER MUST START AND THE AIR PROVING PRESSURE SWITCHMUST CLOSE.

4.5.3 AFTER A 15 SECOND PREPURGE PERIOD, THE GAS VALVE MUST OPEN AND THE IGNITERMUST SPARK. THE IGNITER WILL SPARK FOR A MINIMUM OF 2 SECONDS OR A MAXIMUMOF 7 SECONDS. AFTER 2 SECONDS IF FLAME IS SENSED THE SPARK WILL DISCONTINUE.

NOTE: IF THE BURNERS DO NOT IGNITE DURING THE FIRST IGNITION TRIAL, 2 MORE TRIALSFOR IGNITIONS WILL OCCUR WITH A 60 SECOND INTERPURGE BETWEEN EACH TRIAL.THE IGNITION CONTROL WILL LOCK OUT AFTER THE THIRD TRIAL. DISCONNECTING ANDTHEN RECONNECTING THE "RED" AND "BLACK WITH WHITE STRIPE" THERMOSTAT PIGTAILS ORTURNING HEAT SWITCH OFF FOR AT LEAST 3 SECONDS WILL RESET THE CONTROL AND BEGINTHE SEQUENCE ALL OVER AGAIN,

4.5.4 THE BURNERS MUST IGNITE SMOOTHLY AND MUST CARRY OVER TO ALL BURNERS. THE GASVALVE MUST REMAIN OPEN AND THE BURNERS MUST CONTINUE TO BURN FOR A MINIMUM OF 90 SECONDS.

NOTE: IF THE BURNERS IGNITE AND FLAME CARRIES OVER TO ALL BURNERS PROPERLY, BUT THEGAS VALVE CLOSES APPROXIMATELY 7 SECONDS AFTER THE IGNITER BEGINS TO SPARK,THE REMOTE FLAME SENSOR IS NOT SENSING FLAME PROPERLY. CHECK FLAME SENSORPOSITION AND WIRING.

4.5.5 THE INDOOR BLOWER MUST START APPROXIMATELY 30 SECONDS AFTER THE BURNERS IGNITE.

4.5.6 USE A TORCH TO CHECK FOR LEAKS AT THE GAS VALVE AND MANIFOLD. GAS MUST NOTBE DETECTED.

4.5.7 CHECK FOR PROPER LIMIT CONTROL WIRING BY DISCONNECTING ONE OF THE WIRES FROM THE"MAIN LIMIT CONTROL". THE BURNERS MUST EXTINGUISH. THE INDUCER WILL SHUT OFFAFTER 5 SECONDS AND THE BLOWER WILL CONTINUE TO OPERATE FOR APPROXIMATELY 90SECONDS, BUT IT IS NOT NECESSARY TO WAIT ON THE BLOWER TO STOP TO GO ON TO THENEXT STEP.

NOTE: WIRE MAY BE REMOVED FROM MANUAL RESET LIMIT CONTROL OR FROM MAIN LIMIT CONTROL.

4.5.8 RE-CONNECT WIRE TO THE LIMIT CONTROL AND DISCONNECT THE "RED" AND"BLACK WITH WHITE STRIPE" THERMOSTAT PIGTAIL FROM EACH OTHER OR HEAT SWITCH OFF FOR ATLEAST 3 SECONDS, AND THEN RE-CONNECT THESE SAME PIGTAILS BACK TOGETHER OR TURN HEATSWITCH ON. THE BURNER MUST RE-IGNITE AFTER APPROXIMATELY 15 SECONDS.

4.5.9 CHECK FOR PROPER PRESSURE SWITCH OPERATION BY BLOCKING EXHAUST OUTLET. THEBURNERS MUST EXTINGUISH.

4.5.10 REMOVE BLOCKAGE FROM EXHAUST AND DISCONNECT "RED" AND "BLACK WITH WHITE STRIPE"THERMOSTAT PIGTAILS FROM EACH OTHER OR TURN HEAT SWITCH OFF. INDUCER MUST STOP INAPPROXIMATELY 5 SECONDS. INDOOR BLOWER MUST CONTINUE TO OPERATE. (INDOOR BLOWER SHOULDCONTINUE TO OPERATE FOR APPROXIMATELY 90 SECONDS BEFORE IT STOPS. IT IS NOT NECESSARYTO WAIT UNTIL IT STOPS TO CONTINUE WITH THE NEXT STEP.)

4.7 2-STAGE GAS FURNACE RUN TEST (STANDARD & LOW NOX MODELS ONLY)

THE UNIT MUST RUN IN THE “HIGH FIRE” MODEFOR APPROXIMATELY 30 SECONDS. CHECK FOR GAS LEAKS AT THE GAS VALVE AND MANIFOLDDURING THIS “WARM-UP” PERIOD. INDUCER MUST THEN SHIFT TO LOW SPEED AND GAS VALVEMUST CHANGE TO “LOW FIRE” MODE.NOTE: FOUR UNSUCCESSFUL TRIES FOR IGNITION WILL CAUSE A “LOCK OUT” AFTER THE FOURTHUNSUCCESSFUL IGNITION SEQUENCE AND MUST BE RESET BY OPENING THE “W1” SWITCH FOR ATLEAST THREE SECONDS.

THE BURNERS MUST IGNITE SMOOTHLY AND THE IGNITION FLAME MUST CARRY-OVER TO ALLBURNERS. THE GAS VALVE MUST REMAIN OPEN AND THE BURNERS MUST CONTINUE TO BURN FOR MINIMUM OF90 SECONDS. IF ALL BURNERS LIGHT INITIALLY BUT THE GAS VALVE SHUTS OFF AFTERA FEW SECONDS, THE REMOTE FLAME SENSOR IS NOT SENSING THE FLAME PROPERLY.CHECK THE FLAME SENSOR POSITIONING AND WIRING.

4.7.3 THE INDOOR BLOWER MOTOR MUST START APPROXIMATELY 30 SECONDS AFTER CONSTANT FLAME IS SENSED.

4.7.4 CONNECT/ADD THE "WHITE WITH BLUE STRIPE" THERMOSTAT PIGTAIL (W2) TO THE "RED" AND "WHITE WITHBLACK STRIPE PIGTAIL PREVIOUSLY CONNECTED ON 4.7.2. THE UNIT MUST ENTER THE “HIGH FIRE” MODE BYENERGIZING THE HIGH INDUCER SPEED AND SWITCHES THE GAS VALVE TO THE “HIGH FIRE” POSITION.

4.7.5 CHECK FOR PROPER LIMIT CONTROL OPERATION BY DISCONNECTING ONE OF THE WIRES CONNECTED TO THE“MAIN LIMIT”. THE GAS VALVE MUST CLOSE AND ALL BURNERS MUST EXTINGUISH.INDUCER MOTOR AND THE INDOOR BLOWER MOTOR MUST CONTINUE TO OPERATE.

4.7.6 RE-CONNECT THE WIRE TO THE “MAIN LIMIT”. BURNERS MUST RE-IGNITE AFTER 30 SECONDS.

4.7.7 CHECK FOR PROPER PRESSURE SWITCH OPERATION BY BLOCKING THE EXHAUST OUTLET.THE BURNERS MUST EXTINGUISH. THE DRAFT INDUCER AND INDOOR BLOWER MUST CONTINUE TO OPERATE.

4.7.8 REMOVE THE RESTRICTION FROM THE EXHAUST OUTLET.

4.7.9 DISCONNECT THERMOSTAT PIGTAILS. INDUCER MUST STOP AFTER A FIVE SECOND POST-PURGE.INDOOR BLOWER MUST STOP AFTER APPROXIMATELY 90 SECONDS. IT IS NOT NECESSARY TO WAITUNTIL IT STOPS BEFORE CONTINUING ON WITH NEXT STEP.

4.7.10 TO VERIFY THAT THE GAS VALVE HAS CLOSED PROPERLY, CHECK FOR GAS LEAKS AT THE MAIN ORIFICES.GAS MUST NOT BE DETECTED.

9.1.3 REMOVE THE HOSE FROM THE INDUCER AND PLUG IN THE TEST HOSE FROM THE RUNTEST STATIONS PRESSURE TRANSDUCER.

9.1.4 MAKE THERMOSTAT CONNECTIONS FOR HEAT CALL.

9.1.5 CONNECT LINE VOLTAGE TEST LEADS TO CONTACTOR TERMINALS L1 AND L3 FOR SINGLEPHASE. UNITS OR L1, L2, AND L3 FOR THREE PHASE UNITS. CONNECT GROUND WIRE TOGROUND LUG IN UNIT CONTROL BOX. CONNECT LOW VOLTAGE TEST LEADS TOAPPROPRIATE WIRES OR TERMINALS.

9.1.6 PUSH PROMPT ON SCREEN TO CONTINUE WITH TEST.

9.1.7 THE CORRECT VOLTAGE FOR THE MODEL SHOULD BE ENERGIZED AND THE INDUCERWILL ENERGIZE WITH THE HEAT CALL. THE PLC WILL CHECK FOR INDUCER PRESSURE TO BE INRANGE.

9.2 IGNITION AND FLAME TEST

9.2.1 OPERATOR WILL PRESS CONTINUE OR CYCLE START ICON TO CONTINUE. POWER ISENERGIZED AND FACTORY SPEED UP CYCLE INITIATES.

FACTORY SPEED-UP MODE

THIS PROCEDURE USES A FACTORY RUN TEST MODE OR SPEED UP MODE AND USE OF ACOMMUNICATIONS BOARD BETWEEN THE IFC AND THE PLC. THIS IS DONE USING UTECHCOMMUNICATIONS BOARD 119-83-99V1. DURING THIS TEST THE IFC FUNCTIONS IN THEFOLLOWING WAY:

THE CONTROL PROVIDES A SPEED-UP TEST MODE FOR CUSTOMER PRODUCTION LINETESTING. CUSTOMER SPEED-UP MODE IS INITIATED GROUNDING THE EXTERNAL FLAMELED CATHODE (P15 PIN 2) FOR 0.5 TO 1.0 SECONDS.

CUSTOMER SPEED-UP MODE CAN ONLY BE INITIATED WITHIN THE FIRST 10 SECONDSAFTER POWER IS APPLIED, AND IS ONLY VALID FOR THE FIRST 120 SECONDS. IT WILLAUTOMATICALLY CANCEL 140 SECONDS AFTER POWER WAS APPLIED. ONCE TEST MODEIS CANCELED, IT MAY NOT BE RE-INITIATED WITHOUT REMOVING POWER FROM THECONTROL.

9.2 IGNITION & FLAME TEST(CONTINUED)

9.2.2 PER THE FACTORY SPEED UP THE PRE-IGNITION CYCLE PROCEEDS TO LIGHT THE PILOT.ONCE THE PILOT FLAME IS SENSED THE CYCLE WILL PAUSE AND PROMPT OPERATOR TOPROCEED WITH FLAME.OPERATOR WILL IGNITE TORCH AND CHECK FOR LEAKS ALONG THE PILOT TUBING ANDGAS VALVE TUBE CONNECTIONS.WARING DO NOT TO PASS THE FLAME NEAR THE VENTURI INLET.FLAME MAY BE PULLED INTO THE CHAMBER.

9.2.3 ONCE OPERATOR IS COMPLETE WITH FLAME TEST AND THEY CONFIRM THERE ARE NO LEAKSON THE FUEL INLET ASSEMBLY. THEY PASS THE UNIT BY PRESSING THE SCREEN PROMPT.FROM THIS POINT THE SOFTWARE WILL CONTINUE WITH MAIN IGNITION BY ENERGIZINGTHE GAS VALVE AND PROCEEDING WITH THE HEAT CALL FOR 90 SEC.

9.2.4 THE TEST WILL BE AUTOMATED TO COLLECT THE HEATING ELECTRICAL CURRENT ANDCOMPARE THAT TO THE HEAT TOLERANCE IN THE TEST PARAMETERS.

9.2.5 THE GAS PRESSURE AND FLOW WILL THEN BE RECORDED BY THE PLC AND COMPAREDTO THE TEST DATA FIELDS IN THE PARAMETER FILE. IF THE PRESSURE IS OUTSIDE THERANGE SPECIFIED IN THE PARAMETER THE TEST WILL DISPLAY A FAILURE AND“INCORRECT GAS PRESSURE/FLOW” AND ABORT THE RUN TEST. IF THE VALUE IS IN THERANGE THE TEST WILL RECORD INFORMATION AND PROCEED TO THE NEXT PROMPT.

9.3 OPERATOR PRESSURE SWITCH TEST

9.3.1 IF THE NONECONET COMMUNICATION TEST PARAMETER IS TRUE:

1) SHOW THE BLOCK VENT SCREEN WITH ONLY NO BUTTON. SEE ILLUSTRATION

2) WAIT FOR ONE OF THE FOLLOWING FAULTS TO BE REPORTED BY THE UTECINTERFACE:

IF THE LOW NOX TEST PARAMETER IS TRUE, ANY FAULT IN THELOWNOXBLOCK-VENTFAULTS SETTING.

IF THE LOW NOX TEST PARAMETERS IS FALSE, ANY FAULT IN THEBLOCKVENTFAULTS SETTING.

3) ONCE ONE OF THE ABOVE FAULTS IS DETECTED, SET THE PRESSURESWITCHTEST DATA FIELD TO TRUE; OTHERWISE, IF THE OPERATOR CLICKS “NO”, SETTHE PRESSURESWITCH TEST DATA FILED TO FALSE, AND FAIL AND ABORTTHE RUN TEST WITH “PRESSURE SWITCH CHECK FAILED” REASON.

9.3.2 REMOVE HEAT CALLS AND PASS TO THE AIR CONDITIONING OR NEXT SUBROUTINE.
