Sales Management Tips - How Many Contact Attempts?Sales reps and managers constantly need to evaluate how to spend their time contacting new salesleads. However, most sales reps fall far short of Industry best practices when it comes to effectivelycontacting their sales leads.Work in sales long enough, and you'll inevitably hear the question: "How many times do I call newleads before I give up?"

This is a critical concept to understand, because it touches on a number of other aspects connectedto sales production.

If agents don't make enough contact attempts, prospects get scrapped unnecessarily, and marketingbudgets go down the tubes. If reps make too many attempts, they can potentially start throwing awaytheir time and energy, and angering prospects who aren't ready to buy.

Be aware, however, that regardless of the number of calls being made, it won't make a difference if the reps have the wrong attitude. While managers don't want to waste reps' time, if reps start with an

attitude of "As few contacts as possible,", they're setting themselves up for failure. Don't forget--thegoal is to find prospects, not disqualify them.

Both reps and managers must take the approach that "the right number" isn't about personalpreference, it's about improving performance.

Studies from a number of sources demonstrate that the absolute minimum number of attempts per inquiry is six.

But that's only the bare minimum. Studies by MIT, Northwestern, and InfoUSA clearly show thatcompanies who rely on lead gen to develop their sales pipelines should make 8-12 total contact

attempts over a 10-14 day period to get the highest value from every lead generated.

This is interesting, because most surveys show that the average sales rep makes between three andfour contact attempts per lead.

That's barely half of the bottom-line minimum of six--to say nothing of meeting the best practices levelof 8-12.

What does it mean? It means sales reps are throwing away their leads, their time, and their company's money because they give up too soon.

A good sales approach uses the right tools to reach the 8-12 "touch rule." It uses solid practices toensure that reps are doing their jobs.

This type of a approach also means that the sales team is using multiple kinds of media--phone,email, voice message, fax. A correctly aligned sales process will use the 8-12 contact attempts rule, because it consistently generates 90% contact rates, almost double the industry average.

If your sales pipeline is low, take a look at how many qualified leads you're getting. Make morecontact attempts, and your results will go up.

Page 6: Admon Modulo Ingles III

8/8/2019 Admon Modulo Ingles III

http://slidepdf.com/reader/full/admon-modulo-ingles-iii 6/21

Also, don't forget that a good qualifying process needs to be backed up by just as good of a leadnurturing system. Even if you make contact, many prospects will not be interested initially. To get themost out of marketing spend, send prospects who are not yet ready to buy to a long-term nurturingcampaign (assuming the prospect said it was okay) to maintain top of the mind awareness. We'veseen multiple dozens of potential clients come back months, or even years later due to an effectivenurturing strategy. With the appropriate technology tools, sales organizations can dramaticallyincrease their sales pipelines and closes.

1. Why are the sales reps throwing away their time? __________________________________________________________________ 2. What does the expression “touch rule” mean according to the article?

READINGBusiness Administration and Management

When it comes to administration and management, people are often confused. The general

assumption of the people is that administration is a clerical job and management means that one

holds a post of authority, good salary and cabin at work. The following are however, the two precise

definitions of business administration and management.

•Business Administration: Business administration is the class of employees which makes businessplans, policies, does research and sets well planned and legitimate aims before the rest of the

company. The management and the remaining employees, in some cases, report the updates to the

administration. In a real sense the administration does the job of thinking, planning and developing.

•Business Management: Business Management is an executive arm of the administration. The

management gets the things done from the people within a specified time with the help of a specified

amount of resources.

Both the branches are equally important and also well paid (which is equal in most of the cases).

There is however a tendency for every person to join at a deputy-management level after finishing

his/her education and gradually evolve towards careers in business management. After about 15-20

years of service, when the person's hair starts graying, he/she is promoted to the administrative level.

People from the administration, do not take decisions, they request the management to take a

decision to get a result that they feel (of course by legitimate reasoning), is desirable and profitable.

Business Administration and Management Jobs

The modern day business administration and management careers as mentioned above start at the

deputy-managerial level and one can easily graduate to more advanced levels of management and

administration.

There are several branches of executive branches to choose from. Ordinarily you will find the

following branches in a business entity:

•Project/Technical: The project management personnel are experts in the field in which the companyoperates. For example, if the company is engaged in automotive manufacturing, then the project

management would include technicians, engineers and experts in the related fields. The entry level in

the project management is of course as a team member working on a specified project. After a few

years a promotion will be given at an executive level where the person will head a team of people.

After a dedicated service for over decade a promotion to the administrative hierarchy will be given.

Here a person can work in research and development, production policy or production planning. You

can refer to project management training.

•Human Resources: A field that has gained a great amount of importance in the recent past is that of

human resources management and personnel management. The career options and path of

hierarchy is almost the same and also largely depends on the size of the company. It must be noted

that the management skills as well as the leadership skills that are required are very different and

understanding human psychology and emotions is an important quality.

•Sales and Marketing: The sales and marketing is also another branch of management where a

person can work his way up to a very good post at an administrative level.

It must be noted that the business administration and management courses differ as per the branch

the person chooses to enter. As a person it is always better to have a good graduate, post graduate

degree combination as it gives a better scope for promotion. I hope that the elaboration on business

administration and management is resourceful.
