    The Challenge

The maintenance status of each individual component ofprotection systems significantly impacts the reliability ofelectrical power supply systems. It is therefore essentialfor power suppliers that the complete protection system isproperly maintained and in a good condition meeting therequirements of current standards.

For efficient planning and in order to be in a position toprovide proof if necessary, an asset manager or test engineermust be able to answer the following questions at any time:

    > When was the last maintenance test carried out for theindividual assets?

    > When are the next maintenance tests due?

    > Where can I find the test reports on each asset?

    > What is the maintenance status assessment of the overallsystem?

It is often still difficult in practice to keep track of allimportant data and documents. For example, documentssuch as test plans, data sheets and test reports are often filedin different media (electronic or paper files) and at differentplaces, from where they have to be collected with mucheffort when needed.

    The Solution

In order to provide access to all information and documentsneeded at any time, OMICRON offers an innovative solution:ADMO is an easy-to-use database software for centralplanning and management of the maintenance activities forprotection systems in the power industry.

With this database, the following protection system compo-nents can be managed:

Protection relays, communication systems, control circuitry, current and voltage transformers, circuit breakers, station DCsupply.

ADMO supports storing of OMICRON Test Universe test data,third-party test documents and documents individually createdin Microsoft Excel, Word or Adobe Acrobat (PDF) file format.Of course graphic files can be attached as well (e.g., photos ofthe test set-up, screenshots).

    NERC PRC-005 Support

In North America, the NERC organization (North AmericanElectric Reliability Corporation), which was founded in1968 by the utility industry, defines test and maintenancerequirements for protection systems of the bulk electricpower system. ADMO already supports the upcoming NERCPRC-005-2 standard Protection System Maintenance andTesting and, for example, offers the maintenance cyclesrequired by this standard as a default profile. However, thehigh flexibility of the software makes it equally suitable forpower suppliers complying with other standards.

For all protection system components managed with ADMO,the maintenance cycle, the location and all the associated

test documents are stored. The well-structured layout andthe clearly arranged graphics make it easy to immediately seewhich maintenance events are currently due as well as thecurrent maintenance status of the various assets. Stored testdocuments can be accessed with only a few mouse clicks.

    Your Benefits

    > Easy and safe management of test documents

    > Well-structured management of maintenance tests

    > Maintenance status overview of the completeprotection system and its individual components

    > NERC PRC-005 support by default setting proposalsand audit compliant functionality

    Convenient Maintenance Event Management

The functionality of ADMO is based on the interaction of threelevels: Location Asset Maintenance. Once a location is de-fined, assets can be added by entering the component-specificdata and the appropriate maintenance cycle. Subsequently, allrelated maintenance events are scheduled and managed at themaintenance level.

    Defining the location

    Hierarchical location management

    Location

The hierarchically structured location management allows aclear representation of all relevant power stations and substa-tions with their voltage levels and feeders. When a location isselected, ADMO gives an overview of the maintenance statusof all assigned assets.

    Location

System components to be added are assigned to a locationand defined. The definition includes the precise data of

the asset and its maintenance cycle. For the maintenanceintervals, either the default settings based on NERC PRC-005or individual settings can be selected. On completion of theinput, the component appears in the overview with its currentmaintenance status.

    Asset

The maintenance program view offers for each asset atime-related summary of the tests that are completed, scheduled and due. Everything is well-organized, recordedand easily visible at a glance, from the commissioning test tomaintenance events performed and scheduled. Test reportsand measurement results can be retrieved quickly and easily.

    Uniform User Interface

With respect to the user interface, ADMO has a design similarto the Primary Test Manager (PTM), OMICRON's test andmanagement software for primary assets. Customers perform-ing both secondary and primary testing using ADMO andPTM benefit from a uniform and familiar user environment. Inaddition to the multi-user capability the next version of ADMOwill also support data exchange with PTM.

    ADMO Application

The currently available version of ADMO, which is designed

as a single-user solution, primarily covers the needs of smallutilities where protection system maintenance is managedcentrally by one person. In large utilities it may be applied asan evaluation version in order to prepare for the use of thenext version which will be designed as a multi-user versionwith server connection.
