It is such an honour as Principal to release this tenth issue of the ADMC Newsletter. I am indeed happy and thankful to all the contributors of this issue. Your support, staff and students, enables us to publish this letter continuously. I appreciate and congratulate the editorial team for their sincere efforts towards the publication of this letter. My wholehearted thanks are due to the Management for their constant support and continuous encouragement.

Our hearts overwhelmed with joy to speak through the tenth issue of the ADMC Newsletter. We as a team would like to thank you for your support through consistent contributions and achievements. An in-service Training Programme was organized for Secondary Grade Science Teachers by the College and sponsored by Tamil Nadu State Council for Science and Technology from 20.12.2010 to 24.12.2010 at the College Premises. About fifty school

A Two-day UGC sponsored National Seminar on „Renewable Energy – an Amazing Resource‟ was organized jointly by the Department of Physics and the Central Institute of Mining and Fuel Research, Jharhand (CSIR), on 20, 21st January 2011. Dr. A. Sivakamasundari, Principal, presided

over the inaugural session and spoke on the challenges and issues in India on Energy. Mr. Kannan, Senior Manager, CPCL, was the chief guest and he stressed the importance of knowing the available resources and managing them for the development of the country.

Dr. G. Madhurambal, Dr. K. Ravichandran, Associate Professor in Physics, AVVM Sri. Pushpam College, Poondi, Dr. S. P. Asok, Professor in Mechanical Engineering, MEPCO Schlenk Eng. College, Sivakasi, Dr. S. Selladurai, Professor in

Physics, Anna University, Chennai and Mr. K. Rajaperumal, Industrial Consultant were the Resource persons. They spoke on various topics such as available renewable energy

resources, managing the resources, Indian renewable energy scenario and establishment of energy, Energy resources and materials and framing the future. 39 papers were presented and 100 students and staff from various colleges participated.

The College day was celebrated on

12.03.2011. Thiru C. Munianathan, IAS, District Collector of Nagapattinam District,

was the chief guest. Dr. A. D. Jeyem Pandian, Founder President, presided over the function and addressed the gathering. Dr. A. D. Jegadheeswar, Secretary, welcomed the audience. Our President, Secretary and Vice-President Thiru. N. Kathiresan Prabhu distributed proficiency and other prizes to the winners in various competitions and events.

Finally, the students entertained the audience with cultural Programmes.

Department of Commerce

was the guest of honour and she spoke about women. Thiru. A. D. Jeyem Pandian presided over the function and gave the presidential address. In his presidential address, he insisted upon the students to equip themselves for facing the challenges ahead of them in the Global arena by

making use of the excellent infrastructural facilities available in the campus and imparting the knowledge skills and other skills from the teachers. Dr. A. D. Jegadheeswar welcomed the gathering and Thiru. N. Kathiresan Prabhu was also present on that occasion.

The New hostel was declared open

by Dr. K. Meena on the same day and it was constructed by UGC grant with all modern facilities and comforts. The beautiful environment of the hostel campus makes the students feel homely and enjoyable.

The department organized a One

Day Seminar on 05.02.2011. Dr.D.Julius Vijayakumar, Associate Professor in History, T.B.M.L. College, Porayar, was the Resource Person. He spoke on „Tourism and Sustainable Local Development‟. Seven students of III B.Com presented papers.

The department also organized a

Workshop on „Leadership‟ on 01.03.2011. Thiru. R. Alfred John, Chairman, Michael‟s Academy, Nagapattinam, was the Resource Person. A Savings Mobilization drive was arranged for the students on 14.02.2010. Mr. G. Panneer Selvam, Chief Manager and Mr. A. Thanikachalam, Senior Manager, IOB, Nagapattinam, were the Resource persons.

The students of Commerce were

taken to Neyveli Lignite Corporation, Neyveli on 21.01.2011 to acquire knowledge on Process Costing and Human Resource Management. Moreover, value education was imparted to the Municipal School students, Nagapattinam on 27.01.2011 as part of extension activity.

Dr.G. Madhurambal acted as a Chair Person in the International Conference on „Green Chemistry and Sustainable Environment‟ organized at Holy Cross College, Tiruchirappalli, on 7, 8th July 2010. Prof.G.Vasudevan, Head, Dept. of Chemistry, AVC College, Mayiladuthurai, completed his Doctorate and awarded Ph.D in Chemistry under the guidance of Dr.G. Madhurambal. Mrs. J. Kavitha, I M.Sc Chemistry, was selected to attend a Summer Training Programme at Indira Gandhi Atomic Research Institute in Kalpakkam from 28.05.2011 to 01.07.2011.

The Dept. of History organized a one

day Seminar on „The Historic importance of Nagapattinam District‟ with Dr. P. Jeyakumar,

Tamil University, Thanjavur, as Resource Person on 22.02.2011.Dr.G.Ezhiladirai, Head, Dept. of History, acted as the Resource person for a Seminar organized at Dharmapuram Athinam College, Mayiladuthurai, on 02.01.2011 and she spoke on „Art and Culture‟. She also acted as the Resource person for a special meeting on „Salient Historical features of Nagapattinam District‟ conducted at Nagai College of Education, Nagapattinam, on 09.02.2011.

Mrs.R.Alamelu, Associate Professor in History, and 15 students of the department attended one UGC sponsored National Seminar on „Rewriting the History of South India on the basis of New Archaeological Findings‟ organized on 9,10th December 2010 at A.V.C. College, Mayiladuthurai. A study tour was arranged for the students on 1, 2nd February 2011.

Economics, acted as a Resource person for the National Seminar organized at Raja Serfoji Govt. Arts College, Thanjavur, on 30, 31st January 2011 and she spoke about „Fiscal Federalism in India‟. The Economics Forum organized a one day Seminar on the topic „Impact of the climatic changes in Economy‟ on 20.01.2011.

A One day Seminar on „Coral Reefs and Conservations‟ was organized by the Department on 04.03.2011. Dr. Sellam

Balasundaram, Professor, Emeritus, Department of Animal Science, Bharathidasan University, Tiruchirappalli, was the Resource Person.

Final year students undertook the „Animal Census‟ conducted by the Forest and Wild life Department of Nagapattinam at Point Calimere, Vedaraniyam on 26.02.2011 and 27.02.2011. Urine Sugar Analysis and Blood pressure checking were undertaken as part of extension activity at Municipal Pettai, Nagapattinam.

College for Men, Kumbakonam, enlightened the Students of the Department. Dr.R.Sophia Porchelvi, Associate Professor in Mathematics, acted as the Resource Person of a Seminar on „Applications of Mathematics and Mathematical Software‟ organized at Sengamala Thayar Educational Trust, Mannargudi, on 03.03.2011.

Physics, attended a one day Workshop on „Eclipses and Safe Observing Techniques‟ held at N.D.Hr.Sec.School, Nagapattinam, on 05.01.2011. She was the Resource person of a Seminar organized on „Energy Resources and Materials‟ at Dharmapuram Athinam College, Mayiladuthurai, on 04.03.2011 and she also acted as a Judge for the „Who am I‟ programme conducted during the International Women‟s Day celebrations at AVC Eng. College, Mayiladuthurai. An Exhibition on „Solar Eclipses and Safe Observing Techniques‟ was organized by the Dept. of Physics on 12.01.2011.

As part of extension activity, the department conducted Urine and Blood Sugar

analysis to identify the Diabetics fatalities among the people of Municipal Pettai, Velippalayam, on 10.03.2011.

On 09.12.2010 and 10.12.2010 our college students namely, R.Gajalakshmi, II M.Com., P.Sureka, III BA History, M.Durga, III BBA and M.Saranya, II B.Sc. Mathematics participated in Inter Collegiate Athletic meet at Anna Stadium, Tiruchirapalli. T.Suganya, I BA History, R.Gajalakshmi, II M.Com, Rathiga, II BA Economics, R.Rajalakshmi, II M.Com., A.Suriyaprabha, III B.Com and S.Sivasathiya, II M.Com. participated in the Open District Marathan Race at Nagapattinam Stadium on 30.01.2011 and secured IV to X places. Our faculty members are actively taking part in activities such as participating and presenting papers in various Seminars/Workshops/Conferences, attending orientation/refresher courses, publishing their contributions in Journals and the details are given at the last and they are also undertaking research projects and guiding research scholars. ADM Students Outreach Programme

ADM STUDENTS OUTREACH PROGRAMME

is a College to Community programme started during the academic year 2010-11 to enhance the extension activities of our College and to involve the interested staff and students in community service. Principal, Two Coordinators, One staff member from each department, Coordinators of Part V and Club activities are members of the programme. Few neighbourhood communities and schools are identified to carry out these activities. Special orientation is given to the students and the staff-in-charges before reaching the community.

We have planned to conduct a series

of confidence building workshops from the forth coming academic year 2011-2012 onwards to the staff and students involved in such activities sothat they can do the community service in an excellent way. The type of programme is „Skill and capacity building - A community development perspective‟ and it is training cum field based programme and is multi disciplinary in approach. Dr. S. Venkatraman, Senior Programme Officer, UNESCO, Nairobi, Kenya, is the Facilitator.

120 second year under graduate students from all the major departments have been selected for the training programme which will be conducted twice a year (July and December) and the same set of students when they come to third year will be given training as well as practical assignments/ field work. The Resource Person, Coordinators, Staff in charges and all these students are all linked as a web team for carrying out the activities successfully.

The Unit organized a one day Seminar on Aids Awareness in connection with The World Aids Day celebrations on 15.12.2011. A Seminar was organized on „Illaingane Vizhithelu‟ on the occasion of National Youth Day celebrations on 12.01.2011. A Cleaning campaign was conducted at Mirugan Temple, Sikkal, on 20.01.2011. Our volunteers took part in the rally organized by the Nagapattinam Collectorate on 25.01.2011 in connection with the National Voters Day.

Our NSS Volunteers took part in the

Republic day parade at Nagapattinam Collectorate. The Unit organized a Seven day special camp at Ivanallur from 21.02.2011 to 28.02.2011. Dr. T. Vasugi, NSS Programme Officer attended a Refresher Course from 31.01.2011 to 04.02.2011 at Madras School of Social Work, Chennai.

The Leo Members took part in the

rally named „Journey for Sight‟ organized by the Lions Club of Nagapattinam Port Town on 02.02.2011 to create an Awareness among the public about Eye Donation.

The club also organized a Workshop

on Personality Development on 24.02.2011 with Dr.V.Uma, Physical Directress, as the Resource Person.

Our Rotaractors participated in Pulse Polio Awareness Rally on 22.01.2011

and attended the Pulse Polio Immunization Programme on 23.01.2011 conducted by Rotary Club of Nagapattinam.

The members of the club extended their service to the people of Ivanallur on 25.02.2011 during the NSS Camp at Ivanallur.

National Youth Day was celebrated

on 12.01.2011 and conducted a seminar on “Elaignane Vizhithiru” Dr.T.Vasuki, Associate Prof. in Tamil was the Resource Person and enlightened the volunteers about Swamy Vivekananda and his ideals. A seminar on Aids Awareness was

organized on 15.12.2010 as a joint venture with the NSS unit of our college. In addition Oratorical, Essay, Poster Writing and Slogan Writing competitions were conducted regarding aids awareness and prizes were distributed to the winners.

A Training Programme on Doll Making was arranged on 24.12.2010 for the

benefit of the Final Year Students. Mrs.V.Anureka, D. Co-op., was the Resource Person.

On the occasion of „National Consumer‟s Day‟, a special meeting was arranged on 22.01.2011 at the College premises with Dr. A. Dhanalakshmi, Mrs. S. Manimegalai and Dr. T. Vasuki as Resource persons. Moreover, inter-collegiate competitions such as Essay, Oratorical and drawing competitions were conducted at District Collectorate, Nagapattinam, on 17.02.2011. Our students participated and brought laurels to the College. Outreach programmes on „Consumer Awareness‟ were conducted in Nagapattinam and Vedaraniam Taluks from 22.02.2011 to 07.03.2011.

On 11.12.2010 and 03.02.2011, Mr.

Balachandran and Mr. Jeyeraj from ICICI Prudential Life Insurance conducted campus interview and 23 students were selcected. Mrs.S.Thaiyalnayaki, Lecturer in Computer Science attended the Orientation Programme on 07.02.2011 for Placement Officers at Khajamalai Campus, Bharathidasan University, Tiruchirapalli. Career Guidance Cell, Competitive Examinations Coaching Centre and Entrepreneurship Development Cell jointly organized an Awareness Meeting with the

District Employment Office, Nagapattinam on 25.02.2011 for all the Final Year students. Our District Collector was the Chief Guest.

The Village Adoption Scheme unit of

our college organized an Awareness Programme in connection with the National Voter‟s Day Celebration on “Importance of Voting” and the need to cast vote to the villagers of Nambiyar Nagar, Nagapattinam on 25.01.2011.

Mrs.N.Ulagambigai, Headmistress,

Nambiyarnagar Middle School, was the Chief Guest and stressed the need for casting votes to create a Powerful India. The Unit celebrated 62nd Republic day at Nambiyarnagar on 26.01.2011. Ms.D.Savithiri, Assistant Professor of Economics delivered a speech on our former President Thiru.A.P.J. Abdulkalam‟s Life and his Social Service.

On 08.03.2011 World Women‟s Day was celebrated in our adopted Village Nambiyarnagar.Rangoli Competition and Food preparation competition was conducted and prizes were distributed for the winners.

The Association organized a special meeting to receive suggestions from the Alumni for the development of the college. Mrs.S.Rajeswari and Mrs.V.Viji, Professors of Economics Department contributed Rs.5,000/- each for creating an endowment. Mrs.R.Alamelu, an Alumni has contributed

The Physics Association is planning to arrange a Two-day Workshop on „Formation of VIPNET Science Clubs‟ for School Teachers at ADM College and it is to be organized by VIGYAN PRASAR, Government of India and Tamil Nadu Science and Technology Centre, Chennai, on 20, 21st June 2011.

As part of ADM STUDENTS

OUTREACH PROGRAMME, the first of the series of Workshops entitled „Building skills and capacities for community mobilization and career‟ is to be conducted on 6,7th July 2011 with Dr. S. Venkatraman, Senior Programme Officer, UNESCO, as Resource person.

The NAAC Peer Team for Reaccreditation will be visiting the College on 26,27th August 2011.

The UGC experts committee for the grant of extension of Autonomy will be visiting the College during September 2011.
