Addressing Previous Concerns

Deliverable False Positives

Distraction Compatibility/Calibration

Project Scope

Removed V2V communication

from project

• Determined infeasible• Hope to add in future

capstones

Focus on delivering proof-

of-concept prototype by end of year

• System will serve as foundation• Other projects can build upon this

One system for vehicle to detect

potential collisions and warn driver

• Can operate as standalone

Updated Block Diagram

Parts

Warning systems parts (RPi, BBB, Arduino) have arrived so we can start writing code and wiring

Ultrasonic Sensors Delphi ESR currently purchasing, but

tricky ordering process

Center for Automation

Thursday, November 20 Visiting to discuss our approach and ask

questions relating to false positive removal

False Positive Removal

System Engages only at >30 mphAlarms won’t be going off while sitting in

traffic Objects will sound an alarm for side

collision only if they are within a very close radius

Objects must be detected for a certain amount of time before any alert sounds

HDMI Display

Similar to a GPS screen Sits off to the side of the

driver Only be needed when driver

is changing lanes Alerts on the display will

be minimally obtrusive except during imminent collisions

Buttons available to change screen settings (brightness, contrast, etc.)

Vehicle Calibration

Preset calibrations for different types of vehicles

First time owner turns the system on, they choose the vehicle and the system saves their choice.

System made for commercial automobiles (Pickup Trucks, Vans, Cars, etc.)
