Query Builder Basics



What Is the Query Builder?

The Query builder is a UI tool to help you: Select attributes Then group and evaluate conditions on those attributes Include attributes not found in the pre-defined summary list

..All without using the query language syntax

Follow relationships from the starting node type and group and evaluate attributes on destination nodes in the same way

Where Do I Find the Query Builder? (1)

Any list view Example: Host List, SoftwareInstance List

Expand “Customize” to reveal the query builder

Select attributes or relationships to add to the query viewer Use the attribute filter Or the lookup tool

Use the menus and fields to create a conditional statement



Query Constructor Tab: Conditionals

Create conditions against the attributes chosen Select from drop down menu Example: E10K SSP Hostname is defined

Build complex queries using Any (or) All (and) None (not and)



Customize Columns Tab

Add new attributes to your query Use the attribute filter Or the lookup tool

Pre-defined columns list of attributes Can rename or delete

columns

Buttons to confirm column customization



Raw Query Tab

Can view the raw query syntax



Save the Query (1)

Return to the Query Constructor tab to save the query for future use All conditions must be applied first Otherwise the “Save” button will be grayed out Provide a title and a description

Find the saved queries: “Saved Queries” link in information banner Reports > Saved Queries

Select a List of Hosts

Go To: Infrastructure Tab

Click on Hosts Icon from Infrastructure Summary



Filter By Column (1)

Filter the list to only display virtual hosts Click on the filter tool

Under the virtual column Select “Yes” from the drop down menu



Filter By Column (2)

Filter again to only view VMware hosts Use the filter tool

Under the Hardware Vendor Column Select “VMware, Inc.”

Now click on “Customize”



Using Query Builder (1)

Notice the conditions that the query builder has so built so far Virtual is true Hardware Vendor is VMware, Inc.



Using Query Builder (2)

Use the lookup tool to select the hostname attribute and add to the query viewer section

Now choose “contains word” from conditional drop down menu Enter “test” and hit the apply button to see results below



Customizing the Columns

Now use the lookup tool to add the RAM attribute Rename if you wish

Remove the status attribute Use the red x

Hit apply to save any changes made on this tab



Save the Query For Later

Go back to the Query Constructor Tab Apply all the changes Save query for later use
