Spelling and GrammarThe children will be revising for their Grammar, Punctuation and Spelling test. Some of the areas they will be working on are as follows:
● Identifying main and subordinate clauses. ● Identifying a range of tenses● Identifying adverbial phrases/noun phrases● Identifying adjectives, nouns, adverbs,
verbs, prepositions and conjunctions ● Identifying determiners and articles● Using a range of punctuation: . ! ? () , ; : - ● Identify the correct prefixes and suffixes
for root words
Geography - Rainforests- Understand geographical
similarities and differences- Describe and understand jet
aspect of physical geography - Human geography looking at
settlements, economic use and activity
English
The children will be producing pieces of writing for their portfolios.
These will be a range of genres including diary entries, narratives, balanced arguments, explanation texts, information writing, newspaper reports and persuasive writing. They will be looking to develop their writing skills in a range of areas:
• creating atmosphere, and integrating dialogue to convey character and advance the action;
• selecting vocabulary and grammatical structures that reflect the level of formality required;
• using a range of cohesive devices, including adverbials, within and across sentences and paragraphs;
• using passive and modal verbs;
• using a wide range of clause structures, varying their position within the sentence;
• using adverbs, preposition phrases and expanded noun phrases effectively to add detail, qualification and precision;
• using inverted commas, commas for clarity, semi-colons, dashes, brackets, colons, hyphens.
Maths
The children will be revising for their SATs test in maths.
These are the broad areas that the children will be revising:
● Number and place value● Addition, subtraction, multiplication and
division● Fractions, decimals and percentages● Ratio and proportion● Algebra● Measurement● Properties of shapes● Position and direction● Statistics
