About ArrabriManager’s MessageA great night was had by all who attended our Trivia Night with plenty of rivalry, lots of laughs and more importantly trivia. The list of people who helped make this night such a success is huge and I thank them all wholeheartedly – Zagames, Nikos Tavern, Puffing Billy Railway, Montania Café Bar, Mont De Lancey, Spartans Gym & Fitness, The Basin Theatre Group, Oztenpin Chirnside Park, Lilydale Athenaeum Theatre, Maroondah Leisure, Eastwood Golf Club; The 1812 Theatre, Bayswater Bunnings, Topline Cricket; Diamond Valley Railway, Coles, Yarra Valley Chocolaterie & Ice Creamery; Boronia Heights Pharmacy, Bayswater North Primary School for the use of the hall and our Trivia Quiz Master, Noel Davies. A big thank you also goes to my Committee, staff and their families who all contributed to make the event such a success. It’s a real juggling act for staff to continue their day to day duties and find the time to co-ordinate and organise an event – a job well done. Finally thank you to all those who attended and made it such an entertaining night.

We have another busy term coming up with special celebrations and events and we are introducing some new classes. Adult Learners Week will be celebrated with some great activities scheduled, there will be a wine tasting night, a new crochet class and pilates for mums and bubs. An open day is planned to provide an opportunity for the community to attend to see what we have to offer and showcase our Occasional Care service. Arrabri will also be involved in the Gender Equality Clothesline Project and more details will follow.

The Annual General Meeting for Arrabri is scheduled for 3 September, 2019. All welcome and we are always looking for volunteers whether it be at the house or on the Committee of Management so if you think this is something you would be interested in, please contact myself and come along to the AGM.

PILATES (BEGINNER TO INTERMEDIATE)Classes are designed to help develop physical strength, increase stability, flexibility, improve muscular imbalances and posture.

There is a strong mind-body connection as the exercises require concentration and focus as you move with precision and control. The deep breathing in Pilates can improve circulation and energy levels as well as increase lung capacity.

Suitable for Beginner to Intermediate where you will perform exercises to lengthen and stretch all muscle groups in a balanced fashion with emphasis on developing good techniques as you learn to activate your core and do the exercises in smooth and controlled movements. You will develop greater awareness of how your body feels and where is it is in space and how to control its movement.

Bring along your own mat. This class is run by a qualified Pilates Instructor.

Date: Wednesdays 17 Jul – 18 Sep (10 weeks) Time: 7.00pm - 8.00pm Cost: $125.00 ($112.50 concession)

you move.

PILATES FOR OVER 60’SThis new class is tailored to suit the needs of those in their senior years. This gentle Pilates class offers a form of exercise that focuses on controlled breathing and quality of movement, not quantity of repetitions. Pilates is perfect for older adults, as it focuses on building a “strong core” – the deep abdominals and muscles close to the spine. Many of the exercises are performed while sitting, the exercises are low impact and with a focus on balance and weight bearing. Practising Pilates will increase stability in the body, which is crucial for older adults as it can help them improve much of their functional movement and also positively affect postural positions.

Date: Fridays 19 Jul – 20 Sep (10 Weeks) Time: 12.30pm - 1.30pm Cost: $125.00 ($112.50 concession)
