01 INTRODUCTION
Music Clubs are very prevalent in schools and are fast becoming a popular co-curricular
outlet for local students. Some schools and organizations promote integration of arts classes, such as
music, with other subjects, such as math, science, or English. It is thought that by integrating the
different curricula will help each subject to build off of one another, enhancing the overall quality of
education. Music education can play a vital role in the development of the whole child and their
scholastic journey.
According to the Florida Music Educators Association, “Music and the Fine Arts have been a
significant portion of every culture’s educational system for more than 3,000 years. The human brain
has been shown to be “hard-wired” for music; there is a biological basis for music being an important
part of human experience. Music and the Arts surround daily life in our present day culture. Most
present day artists, architects, and musicians acquired their interests during public school Fine Arts
classes... Education without the Fine Arts is fundamentally impoverished and subsequently leads to an
impoverished society.”
The Music Club was formerly known as the Choir Club whereby members were trained to be
part of a choir ensemble. However, this year, the scope of the Club has expanded to include all forms of
musical performances, details of which will be explained further in this action plan.
02 CLUB VISION AND MISSION
The Club’s Vision is
“Music being the epithet of intellect, discipline, emotion and expression”
The Club’s Mission is
“Producing musical maestros of tomorrow”
The Vision statement employed by the Music Club is the same as that of the Percussions
Club, for both clubs are heading towards the idea of music as a vessel for the betterment of a
student’s intellect, discipline, emotional quotient and the expression of one’s identity and
personality.
The Mission statement reflects the strong hypothesis that in SMPAPHM, there are many
budding musicians who have latent musical talents. The only element that they are missing is
guidance. Guidance is in the forms of a trainer and a channel for expressing their skills. The
mission of the Club is therefore to produce musical maestros from potential musicians.
03 CLUB OBJECTIVES
The list of objectives is not exhaustive as throughout the year, objectives will change
and new ones will be added. Nonetheless, to date, the list below portrays the short term and
long term objectives of the Club.
03.1 SHORT TERM OBJECTIVES
To train students in reading chords, tablatures and musical notes
To train students in musical concepts
To instill a habit of music arrangement and songwriting
To improve on students’ musical forte (singing, guitar, drums, violins, etc.)
03.2 LONG TERM OBJECTIVES
To form several ensembles for performance and recording puposes
o A 30-strong choir ensemble (Choirettes)

05. SUB-UNITS
Since one of the objectives of the Music Club is to produce several workable units of
music ensemble, it is best to define and describe these proposed sub-units.
05.1 SMPAPHM SHOW CHOIR
The show choir genre is increasingly gaining popularity in the local choir competition
circles. This is mainly to do with the trend being promoted by the Award winning TV series,
“GLEE”. In fact, Glee Clubs are quite commonly found in choir settings. A Show Choir is a choir
that also does theatrical interpretations of the song being sung. It involves complicated
choreography and intricate choral arrangements.
The proposed strength of this sub-unit is 15. It is itself a sub-unit of the Choirettes Team.
The proposed types of song to be sung by the Show Choir include P.Ramlee classics medley of
“Bila Larut Malam”, “Aci Aci Buka Pintu” and “Bunyi Gitar”, and modern numbers such as Black
Eyed Peas “Let’s Get It Started” and Queen’s “We Are the Champions”.
For a ballad study, the choir will focus on John Lennon’s “Imagine” and Manbai’s “Kau
Ilhamku”. Ergo, the songs to be studies by this show choir are:
P.Ramlee Medley
Let’s Get It Started
We Are the Champions
Imagine
Kau Ilhamku
05.2. MAESTRO (POP ROCK BAND)
The band will consist of 7 members, each assigned to 1) front vocal, 2) rhythm guitar, 3)
lead guitar, 4) bass, 5) keyboard, 6) drums, 7) percussions. The club is still finalizing the
members for Maestro as most members are not instrument-inclined.
In a recent session, the Music Club has written three songs, entitled “Independent
Teens”, “Berjuang” and “A School without Friends”. In the near future, the Maestro band will
write several more songs to reach a total of 8.
A major assignment of the Maestro band is to act as accompaniment for Suara and also
the Show Choir in their respective assignments
05.3. AVIVA (STRING QUARTET)
Modern string quartets have always been popular in recent music scenes. The string
quartets of Scala and Bond are two examples. The Music Club houses two aspiring violinists.
However, in order to complete the quartet, there needs to be at least a viola player and a
cellist; both instruments are learnable if students are committed.
The absence of a cello restricts the creation of a quartet, which is why the Music Club,
under the Music Guild budget proposal, is proposing for the purchase of a cello. With an in-
house cello, future violinists will be able to have a proper accompaniment, as it is expected that
in the near future, there will be an influx of students who are also violin players outside of
school.
05.4. SUARA (A CAPELLA QUINTET)
A vocal a capella ensemble is one of the most popular form of modern musical artistry.
Several modern examples include Black Eyed Peas, Destiny’s Child, Wonder Girls and Moluccas.
Under the name ‘Suara’, the genre that the quintet will follow is more on acoustically ballads,
very similar to the Singapore A capella suit, “After Six”. Suara will comprise of 5 singers, each
with unique and different vocal registers.
