Don’t forget to bring Oatmeal to support North Ellis County

Outreach. Our church is one of many in the community that

partners with NECO to support families in the 75154 zip code

who need extra assistance. We have agreed to provide them

with the oatmeal they need each month. NECO has asked that

we bring either boxes of individually packaged oatmeal or

“regular” sized canisters of oats. They are not allowed to divide the “industrial”

sized boxes from Sam’s or Costco into smaller units, so a regular sized package is

beer. Thank you so much for your caring hearts to provide for the people of our

own community.

School is almost out and our youth are

very excited about our upcoming mis-

sion trips. How can you help? Most

importantly, be in prayer for staff and

lay leadership—that they will be a light

to the world and an example of Christ in

all ways to the youth that will be going

on these two trips. Pray also for safety

of all involved, both youth and adults.

Pray for God to move in the hearts of

men, women, and youth as they work

side by side to accomplish God’s mis-

sion—God’s work on these trips. Another important way to be involved is to

lend your tools to the youth for use on the trips. There is a list of tools needed

included in this newsleer, as well as lists you can pick up at the church. We

are also asking this year for donaons of food items and paper goods to help

the mission trip food budget stretch a lile bit. You will also find a list of items

that you can donate included in this newsleer. If you would be willing to do-

nate any of the food/paper items, please call Owen at the church office or bring

your items to church and put them in the youth room. Thanks so much for your

help in making our youth mission trips a huge success.

Pastor’s Corner

Youth Happenings

Good aernoon,

Last year, our Wednesday Bible studies went through

the books of Ezra and Nehemiah which are about God

leading the people back from exile to

the promised land so that they could rebuild. Aer

being led by Moses and Joshua to this land of milk and

honey, the people began to stray away and so another

naon conquered them and held them capve for 70

years. When Nehemiah was sll the cup bearer to the

new king, he heard about the problems that the

people of Jerusalem had been experiencing. Here is

what he said: "When I heard these things, I sat down

and wept. For some days I mourned and fasted and

prayed before the God of heaven." Nehemiah 1:4

Nehemiah was greatly disturbed because the people

of his homeland were suffering. Things were out of

alignment. So with the king's blessing he led a group

of people back to Jerusalem to rebuild the city. Once

he led the people to a right way of living and working

the city was rebuilt.

Someme ago, I experienced back and neck pain.

Going to the regular doctor wasn't working so I tried a

chiropractor who said that my spine was out of align-

ment. My car too has experienced alignment prob-

lems. And the miracle was that once my body was in

alignment my pain disappeared. Once my car was

aligned, my res rode beer and lasted

longer. Apparently alignment helps.

Have you ever experienced a me of being out of

alignment? Things weren't going just right and you

were in some spiritual pain? I suggest that spiritual

alignment needs the care of Dr. Jesus. Okay, sounds

like a pastor doesn't it? But he does work on our

alignment problems.

Nehemiah connued to pray. To go deeper read

Nehemiah 1: 5-6 and then Psalm 119: 57-64. Nehemi-

ah confessed his sins to God and asked for help as he

re-commied his life to the Lord.

Psalm 121 is another Psalm that can help on your

alignment journey. If you want to discuss it, then

come on by this Sunday and every Sunday as we

explore the meaning of the scriptures. All are wel-

come and this week we get the honor of coming to

Christ's table for a celebraon meal.

See ya! Pastor Allen

Laugh and Learn Preschool

May 21 was our last day of

class for the 2013-2014 school

year at Laugh and Learn Pre-

school. We had a great end of

the year program that evening

with close to 40 lile ones

singing, dancing, and praising

Jesus. We even got the fami-

lies up singing and dancing with us for one silly song! We ended the evening

with our 10 four year olds graduang from our program and geng ready to

go to “big school” next year. Many thanks to our teachers and the Laugh and

Learn Board of Directors for all their hard work in making the evening a huge

success.

One other important piece of news I would like to share with everyone is that

on May 19, we received our Full License. In January, we received a Provision-

al License that was good for 6 months. During that 6 month period, we re-

ceived 3 more inspecons. During those three inspecons, the only deficien-

cy found was one enrollment form was missing a parent signature. I am

proud of our teachers for their accomplishment of passing these inspecons

with flying colors! We operate every day with the same aenon to detail as

we do when our inspector is in the building.

Thank you, church family, for your overwhelming support of our program this

year!

New Church Van

This past week the Trustees purchased a 2013 Ford E350 15 passenger

van. It is being ouied with running boards and a receiver hitch.

Soon our name will be on the van. Now we will be

able to create the Senior Adult Ministry in Red Oak for grocery and

drug shopping that several local seniors need. If you are interested

in coordinang this weekly ministry please contact Pastor Allen. The

youth will be taking the new van on their two mission trips this

summer.

Van use policies will be revisited by the Trustees before groups may

use the van.

We are needing adult volunteers for VBS this year. It's coming up faster than you think! If you would like to volunteer as a shepherd for a super cool group of kids or a session leader please sign up on our new website at www.vacaonbibleschool.com/fumcro or you can contact Bailey Malone at [email protected] or 469-387-3827. We would also like our wonderful adult Sunday School groups to help us out with dinner. Please contact Bailey with that informaon as well.

Parents you can now register your child ages 3 through 6th grade for Vacaon Bible School by going online to www.vacaonbibleschool.com/fumcro or by contacng Natalie McKnight.

Thanks in advance Church Family for all your help!

Titus 2:7 ESV Show yourself in all respects to be a model of good works, and

in your teaching show integrity, dignity….

1 Corinthians 16:13-14 Be watchful, stand firm in the faith, act like a man be

strong. Let all that you do be done in love.

Just aer World War II, when the women went to work outside of

the home, the man’s place in the home and in society began to change. He

was no longer the only income provider and soon the women were making

more money than the men. Next was the television commercial that placed

the man in the posion of fool, or le him out of the picture all together.

Our society places a great deal of power on money, and today I

know of more women who are working while the men stay home and take

care of the children and house. Are these men any less of a man?

While pondering these thoughts, and their effects on society, I decided to

look up several Scriptures in different Bibles. I know that the Bible was

wrien when men were the stronger of the human race and women were to

be taken care of, for they were weaker. In all of the Scriptures I read, not one

of them menoned anything about a man being a man because of the money

he makes. Instead, I found advice on how a man should honor God, behave

with kindness and love. A man is the head of the house, but also considers

his wife’s opinion in his decisions. By way of his acons he teaches in a way

that words can never say.

My father was an honest, kind and loving man. He did not earn a lot

of money but he provided for his family in many other ways. He would talk to

my sister and me about his childhood and the coal mining camps of southern

Colorado. He talked about his days as a truck driver, and told us that he did

not want to drive a truck again, for he would miss out on being home with us.

He was proud of who he was, and therefore taught us to be proud of who we

are.

An Invitation to Commissioning

On June 22, our congregation will commission our Stephen Ministers.

Throughout history, when God has called people to special ministry, mem-

bers of their community have commissioned them for the

important new work they are taking on. Now we invite you to help carry

on that Biblical tradition by being a part of commissioning those who have

responded to God’s call to be part of our congregation’s Stephen Ministry.

Our Stephen Ministers have already completed substantial training to equip

them for their task. We now lay hands on them, pray for them, and send

them out to minister, asking for God’s blessing and the Spirit’s wisdom and

power. This commissioning service offers an opportunity to show our

support for this ministry. Our Stephen Ministers will be depending on our

support in the time ahead as they assume the duties of their ministry. How

can we help?

First of all, we can pray for our Stephen Leaders, our Stephen

Ministers, and their care receivers. This ministry calls for both time and

effort. At times they may feel tired, discouraged, or convinced that they are

not accomplishing anything. The assurance of our

prayers and appreciation will help them keep moving forward.

We can also affirm and show our appreciation for this valuable

ministry. We can tell them how much their hard work means to us, tell

others how much we value our Stephen Ministry, and focus

attention on our Stephen Ministers to bless and affirm them in special

ways—as we do with our commissioning services.

We can become involved in this ministry in many ways. Some of us may

recognize a call to use our special gifts in this ministry and may apply to be

a Stephen Leader or Stephen Minister. Others may accept the care of a

Stephen Minister. We can be ministers of referral, watching for people in

need and suggesting a Stephen Minister’s care. We all can give our

enthusiastic support by keeping Stephen Ministry always before us and by

praying for and affirming those who have answered God’s call to serve in

this way.

As we commission our newly trained Stephen Ministers, let us thank God

for all that they will bring to this congregation in providing care to

others, and let us promise them our daily prayer and support as we

send them out to minister among us.
