End of Course Achievement Test SpeakingTiming: 8 minutes per test

Marks: award up to 5 marks for each of the five categories (Task Achievement, Range, Organisation, Pronunciation and Accuracy) according to the criteria set out in the Analytical Marking Scheme

This speaking test consists of two tasks and is to be conducted with learners in pairs.

Speaking task 1TiMe About 4 minutes

Procedure

1 Read the following rubric to both learners: First I want to ask you some general questions.

2 Ask questions 13 to learner A. [Note: depending on the answer to 2, question 3 may not be required]

3 Ask questions 46 to learner B. [Note: depending on the answer to 5, question 6 may not be required]

4 Ask questions 79 to either or both learners, as appropriate.

1 When do you usually have holidays? In winter or summer?2 Where did you go for your last holiday?3 What did you do?

4 When do you usually go out? At the weekend or during the week?5 When was the last time you visited an interesting place? Where did you go?6 What did you do there?

7 Lets talk about famous people. Tell me about the life of a famous person that you like. 8 What about your life? Tell me about some of the important events in your life.9 Now lets talk about the future. What are you doing tonight / next weekend?

Speaking task 2TiMe About 4 minutes

Procedure

1 Give one learner a copy of card A and give the other learner a copy of card B. Learners read the information and think about what they want to say.

2 After one minute, say to both learners: Is that OK? Do you have any questions?

3 Answer any questions as appropriate. When the learners are ready, ask A to invite B, and allow the conversation to continue for up to one minute. Then ask B to invite A and allow this conversation to continue for another minute.

4 When they have finished the conversations, ask learners what they are doing.

5 End the test by saying: Thank you. That is the end of the test.
