It is our pleasure to present the opportunity for area citizens toshowcase the quality products which they have produced. Someof the guidelines and rules are in this booklet for anyone wishingto enter something in the competitive exhibits departments.

Field Days is Vermont's largest agricultural fair with a chil-dren's barnyard, cattle judging, tractor pulls, kiddie rides, crafts,exhibits, live entertainment, pony and ox pulling, midway,parade, youth activities, and Vermont products dinner.

We extend our sincere appreciation to all who have exhibitedin the past and look forward to working with new, as well as pastexhibitors, during our 2012 fair.

An admission fee is charged to each individual upon enteringField Days grounds each and every day from 7:00 a.m. until mid-night.

EXCEPTIONS1. Children age 5 and under will be admitted FREE at all times

when accompanied by an adult.2. Active 4-H members and leaders who are exhibiting and vol-

unteering every day will be admitted to the grounds free uponpresentation of a special colored 4-H/Fair pass. One leader fromeach club will send a list of active participating members andleaders to: 4-H Fair Passes, UVM Extension, 68 Catamount Park,Suite C, Middlebury, Vt. 05753. 4-H members will receive theirpasses from their leader or department superintendent.

3. See specific policies (below).NOTE: Special individual rate of $5.00 applies to bus loads or

groups of 20 or more people who have made prior arrangements.The payment of a one-day admission permits the individual re-

entry on the grounds during that same day and evening withhand stamp applied by Gate Admission personnel.

COMPLIMENTARY PASSESAny individual who claims that he/she should have a free

Field Days pass will pay the regular gate admission charges, butshould be advised to contact his/her department superintendentor the Field Days office. A special slip signed at the gate is used.Full refund of gate payments will be made and a Field Days passissued if such individual is so qualified.

SPECIFIC POLICIESAdmit without Passes:1. Employed entertainment groups to which Field Days has

been unable to send passes. Field Days will advise gate personnel(ticket sellers) of these specific groups.

2. Governor, driver and assistants.3. State Police.4. Congressional delegations.5. Other emergency personnel in an emergency (i.e., firemen,

veterinarians, doctors, light company and tent personnel).6. Children 5 years of age and younger.

EXHIBITOR POLICIES1. Free Exhibit Space — will be provided for UVM, the Vermont

Dept. of Agriculture and possibly others at the discretion of theboard of directors. One (1) free season pass

provided for each free exhibit space.2. Commercial Exhibitors — will receive two (2) free season

passes and two (2) parking passes for each space purchased.Additional day passes may be purchased for $5.00 each.

3. Adult Exhibitors — who participate every day. Includes:Open Dairy; Open Beef; Sheep Show.

A. Those with the above exhibits may purchase a five day passfor $10.00 each as follows:

1 - 5 animals on exhibit: limit 2 passes6 - 10 animals on exhibit: limit 3 passes11 or more animals: limit 4 passesB. All other youth and adult exhibitors — one (1) season pass

per exhibitor or the same rate ($10.00) as above.4. Non 4-H Youth Exhibitors — who pay no entry fee and who

participate one (1) day only will receive one (1) free day passthrough their Field Days Department Superintendent.

5. Adult Exhibitors — who pay no show entry fees and who

participate one (1) day only will pay the regular gate admissionwith no refund, with exception of hand mowing.

6. Youth & Adult Exhibitors — who bring in and set up exhibitsand remove them at the conclusion of Field Days are expected todo their set-up on Monday and tear-down after Field Days clos-es. Those who must enter on Saturday evening before the ticketbooths close to claim their exhibits will be issued one (1) one daypass which may be used only for exhibit pickup admission.Examples: Crops, Flower Show, Vegetable Exhibits, Handcrafts,Foods, any static exhibits.

7. Youth & Adult Horse Show Participants — entry fees arepaid by these exhibitors. Passes will be issued by theSuperintendent of Horse Shows according to announced rules,which have been approved by the Field Days Directors, with thefollowing exceptions:

A. Registered Horse Show advance entries (non 4-Hers) willget one (1) free day pass per rider.

B. 4-H Youth Horse Show riders may get, through their HorseSuperintendent and with membership card shown, one (1) freeday pass, and may purchase one (1) season pass for $10.00 at thediscretion of the Horse Show’s Superintendent, season passesmay be given to those entrants who have horses on the groundsfor the entire Field Days.

8. Maple Producers — if half (1/2) of the maple space is devot-ed to educational material, free season passes will be issued forthat area. The remaining portion of the area will be treated as aconcession. If less than half of the maple space is devoted to edu-cational material, the entire building will be treated as a conces-sion.

9. 4-H passes — see 4-H Rules 10. Active FFA members and leaders who are working at the

Mount Abe Dairy Bar or the food booth will be admitted onto thegrounds free upon the presentation of a special colored FFA pass

bracelet. One leader from each chapter will send alist of active participating members and leadersby July 19th to: ACFFD, PO Box 745, Middlebury,Vt. 05753. This list will be cross referenced with4H, FFA pass bracelets will be mailed to theirleaders, who will pass them onto the members.

OTHER THAN EXHIBITORSThose invited for demonstrations: (fashion

show, parade, VIP’s, Dairy Queen, Miss Vermont,etc.); educational, religious - will be issued neces-sary free day passes by the departmentSuperintendent or the person(s) responsible forthe specific event. In the event gate admission hasbeen paid, Field Days will make a refund uponverification, via the special form issued at thegate where admission was paid, of payment ofsaid admission.

Holders of State Fair Assoc. passes admittedwithout charge at any time.

Employed Entertainment Groups - see #1 underSPECIFIC POLICIES, or follow instructions ofField Days office.

Special season passes may be issued, at the dis-cretion of the Board of Directors, to Field Daysgrounds neighbors at the rate of one (1) per fami-ly member living at home.

CAMPING FEESThe fees for camping on the grounds are $140 a

week or $35 a night. Electricity, water andgray/septic water pumped. You must fill out andsend in your camping form before Aug. 1.

GENERAL RULES1. The following rules shall apply to

all departments of the Fair. It shall bethe responsibility of all exhibitors,food vendors and concessionaires toabide by these rules.

2. All property brought upon theField Days grounds by any person andfor any purpose is subject to theserules.

3. All persons entering upon FieldDays grounds, with or without per-mission and for any purpose, agree tohold Field Days and its officers, direc-tors, trustees, agents and employees,harmless from any loss, damage,injury, death, or disability from anycause whatsoever to any person orproperty.

4. All property brought upon theField Days grounds shall be the soleresponsibility of the owner, and FieldDays assumes no responsibility for itssafety.

5. As a part of the consideration forpermission to be upon the Field Daysgrounds, all claims for damage toproperty or for personal injury arespecifically waived; and no claim orsuit shall in any way be commencedor maintained against Field Days orits officers, directors, trustees, agents

or employees.6. All exhibits and entries must

remain intact until the release timespecified in each department. Failureto comply with this rule will result inforfeiture of all premiums and ribbonsor trophies won in all departments.

7. The Directors of Field Daysreserve the right to reassign any spacenot occupied by an exhibitor by thespecific date. No exhibitor is permit-ted to sublet or assign his/her spacewithout prior written approval of thedirector(s) in charge of such space.

8. Exhibitors and concessionairesshall keep their space(s) and stall(s)clean at all times. All waste and littershall be placed in appropriate contain-ers. Failure to do so automaticallytransfers, to the Field Days Directors,the right to contract the cleanup at theexpense of the person(s) responsiblefor such space/exhibit/concession.

9. Any person objecting in anungentlemanly or public manner tothe judgment or ruling of an awardingcommittee, judge, department super-intendent, or any official of Field Daysmay be excluded by the Board ofDirectors from further competition orexhibition until such time as he/she

10. Any exhibitor making or causing tobe made, any false statement regarding ananimal or article, or attempting to inter-fere with any judge in the performance ofhis/her duty, shall be excluded from com-petition or exhibition.

11. Premiums shall be awarded on arti-cles listed in the premium lists only. Thejudges in each department shall beapproved by the DepartmentSuperintendent. No one shall be permittedto judge in an area in which he/sheexhibits.

12. Where there are fewer animals orarticles shown in a class than the numberof premiums offered, the judges may ormay not award a prize or prizes, or maycombine a class or classes, at their solediscretion.

13. Premiums shall be paid by the treas-urer at the close of Field Days or as soonthereafter as possible.

14. Premiums shall be awarded only inaccordance with the entry book which hasbeen properly signed by the judge(s).

15. The directors of Field Days have theright to remove from the Field Daysgrounds any exhibit, animal, concession,show, sign, banner, or advertising matterof any kind which is unsuitable or objec-tionable to them, without assigning anyreason thereto.

16. The Board of Directors shall author-

ize only those exhibits and concessionswhich evidence a high moral standard. Noexhibit or concession shall be conducted inother than a legitimate and tradesman likemanner.

17. Each exhibitor and concessionaireshall confine his/her activities to thespace assigned. Failure to do so will sub-ject them to forfeiture of the exhibit orconcession privilege and any monies paidfor such privilege.

18. No exhibitor or concessionaire mayengage in extortion or any similar activity.Any such conduct - judged by the opinionof the Board of Directors - shall result inforfeiture of contract, money paid, and inexpulsion from the grounds.

19. Advertising material shall be distrib-uted from, and displayed in, an author-ized exhibit space only. As well as, allsigns, sandwich boards and banners mustremain in the authorized exhibit spaceonly. Begging, soliciting, singing, publicspeaking or creating a general nuisance ispositively prohibited. Any person violat-ing this rule is subject to expulsion fromthe grounds.

20. All space allotted shall be appropri-ately decorated by the exhibitor or conces-sionaire at their own expense. Said deco-rations shall be subject to the approval ofthe Field Days Board of Directors. Therewill be two $100 prizes awarded each year,one each to the neatest, best kept, mostappropriately decorated of the indoor and

outdoor exhibits/concessions; to bejudged by the Board of Directors.

21. No vehicles of any sort shall be per-mitted to park or stand in any road orwalkway of the Field Days grounds. Suchvehicles may be towed at the owner ’sexpense.

22. Persons exhibiting thoroughbredanimals shall be required to furnish to thejudge(s) satisfactory evidence of the puri-ty of blood of such animals before beingallowed to compete for premiums. Theherd book of several breeds shall be suchevidence.

23. No person(s) other than the judge(s)and attendants shall be permitted to enterthe ring where stock is being judged.

24. No article or animal will be permit-ted to compete for more than one (1) pre-mium except in the case of group or flockpremiums, unless stated under the specif-ic rules for that department.

25. Department superintendents shallappoint judges when not otherwisenamed.

26. The Board of Directors may acceptlate entries, but only in the event that it isnot to the detriment of other exhibits.

27. All general awards shall have writ-ten rules approved by the Board ofDirectors prior to Field Days.

28. No open containers of any alcoholicbeverage shall be carried on the FieldDays grounds. The penalty for doing so isexpulsion from the grounds.

29. No dogs shall be permitted on FieldDays grounds except for seeing eye dogs.This includes during set-up and take-down of exhibits.

30. No exhibits or entries shall beremoved from their spaces prior to 9:00p.m. on closing day unless specificallyauthorized in writing by a majority of theBoard of Directors.

31. Any person knowing of mistreat-ment or extortion practiced by anyexhibitor or concessionaire or employee ofField Days shall immediately report it toany member of the Board of Directors.

32. All camping is by permit only, inspecified areas. A fee shall be charged.Some electrical and water hookups areavailable. The running of unauthorizedextension cords or the use of unauthorizedelectrical connections shall be cause forimmediate removal of the offender fromthe grounds and forfeiture of all fees.Reservations for specific spots will bearranged, prior to the fair, with the camp-ing office. Tenting, for exhibitors at a $5charge per night, will be by permission ofthe superintendent. Campers, for 4-Hmembers, who are exhibiting, will be per-mitted at the discretion of the superin-tendent. Designated camping spots will beprovided for superintendents, withoutcharge.

33. In the event of conflict betweenthese Rules and Regulations and specialdepartment rules, the special rules shall

govern.34. Any electrical wiring must be done

by the Field Days electrician and mayinvolve additional expense to therequester of such wiring.

35. All renters, exhibitors and conces-sionaires agree to obtain and maintain inforce, at their own expense, during theterm of their contract with Field Days, andany extension thereof, liability insurancewith insurers and through brokersapproved by Field Days. Such coverageshall be adequate to protect against liabil-ity for damage claims through public, pri-vate or sublease use of, or arising out ofaccidents occurring in or around thepremises, in a minimum amount of fivehundred thousand dollars ($500,000) forany one accident, and fifty thousand dol-lars ($50,000) for property damage. Eachof the aforesaid insurance policies shallname Addison County Fair and FieldDays, Inc. as an additional insured, andAddison County Fair and Field Days, Inc.shall be furnished with a copy of saidinsurance policy(s) and/or a certificatefrom the insurer which certifies that theforegoing insurance is in effect.

36. All exhibits in the Lucien D.Paquette Building shall be self supporting(no nails, staples, screws or hooks shall beattached to the building).

37. Inside exhibit spaces are 10’ x 10’.Back walls of exhibits may be up to eightfeet (8’) in height. Sidewalls, for the first

six feet (6’) of the depth of the exhibit,may not be more than four feet (4’) inheight, to allow for better visibilitythroughout the building. The remainingfour feet (4’) of depth may be up to eightfeet (8’) in height.

38. All overnight vehicles and exhibitorsmust be registered at the Field Days officeand must either display the tags on theirvehicle or have their ID tag on the person.

39. No commercial exhibitor or conces-sionaire may dig holes, pound stakes orpoles, or mount antennas or satellite dish-es without obtaining permission of thegrounds manager.

40. Commercial delivery trucks andexhibitor vehicles may not move on themain streets of Field Days groundsbetween 10 a.m. and 10 p.m.Noncompliance with this regulation mayresult in loss (without compensation) ofField Days admittance privileges and/orexhibit spaces. There will be a reservedarea for exhibitors to park their vehiclesoutside the fence.

41. Tent stakes, exhibitor vehicles, etc.must stay within the boundaries of thespace actually rented.

42. Concessionaires and food vendorsmay sell ONLY those items specificallylisted on the contract signed with and sub-mitted to Addison County Fair and FieldDays. The directors in charge of the foodvendor/exhibit/concession areas have thesole right to limit items which may be sold

43. The Lucien D. Paquette Exhibit Building will be open to thepublic from 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. daily; from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00p.m. for exhibitors and concessionaires only.

44. All permanent buildings owned by Field Days and used byother than Field Days personnel (i.e., 4-H Exhibit Hall, MapleExhibit, Grange, etc.) must have current, negotiated, and signedcontracts prior to any occupancy.

45. Field Days is not responsible for damage caused by poweroutages.

46. All exhibitors and concessionaires must send an appropri-ate deposit (at least 20%) to hold their space and must make allpayments in full by set-up day.

47. All livestock trailers, after unloading, must be parkedacross the brook during the fair.

48. The Field Days Board of Directors reserves the right toamend these rules from time to time, as they see fit.

49. Any exhibitor bringing chemicals onto the fairgroundsmust have a Material Safety Data Sheet for each chemical in theirbooth at all times.

ENTRY RULES:CLASS FEE: $2 per class for the following (*) classes,

Conformation *1 thru *12, Showmanship and Fitting Classes *1thru *4.

1. A.4-H Dairy Entries are due July 23, 2012.Mail entries and fees to: Robin Severy142 Hemenway Hill Rd.Shoreham, Vt. 057702. All 4-H members need to turn in one (1) Dairy Animal

Record Book, which includes all of the animals they will beexhibiting.

3. Cattle must be on the grounds no later than 2 p.m., Monday.Cattle may leave no earlier than 9 p.m. on Saturday. Any milkingcow may be dismissed Wed. eve, except those who will be show-ing for either Showmanship or Open Colored Breeds show. Oneanimal must remain for each 4-H member all week.

4. Animals to be exhibited must have been cared for by theexhibitor since May 1, and listed on their current approval formsand/or lease contracts and signed by the Extension representa-tive by April 30. Exceptions are accepted on agreement of theDairy Superintendents. State 4-H Dairy Project Rules apply. PastApproval forms must be included for animals over 2 years old.

5. Each animal must be positively identified by an ear tag, reg-istration paper, tattoo or photos as per approval form.

6. All exhibitors and youth showing will be at least 8 years of

age as of Jan. 1 of the year of the show and under 19 as of Jan. 1ofthe year of the show.

7. All participants must enter both the Fitting & Showing classas well as the Conformation classes. All 4-H members are eligibleto participate in all classes. There are Special awards that will beawarded to Addison County 4-H members only.

8. Each 4-H club will be responsible for providing adult super-vision at night and reporting to the Superintendents.

9. 4-H members staying overnight must sign in each night andname a chaperone responsible. Under NO circumstances shall anon-chaperoned non 4-H member be allowed to stay overnight inthe 4-H area. Camper sites ($140) and tent sites are $5 a night or$25 per week will be assigned only after camping registrationforms and fees are paid to ACFFD.

10. Judging will also be done on: Herdsmanship andSportsmanship, which will be judged continually throughout theweek. Appearance of exhibitor, neatness of club exhibit area, atti-tude of exhibitor, cooperation for individual members and clubs,exhibit equipment and public safety. A Club Exhibit Displayrosette will be awarded to the club with the best presentationarrangements (decorations, name cards, information).

11. All “Open Dairy Show” entries need to be made as per rulesin “Open Dairy Cattle Shows” section and proper fee paid byentry date. There will be no late entries.

12. The 4-H Dairy Superintendent’s decisions shall rule. Anyconflicts with scheduling need to be addressed to the leaders orsuperintendents.

13. PREMIUMS: $9 = Blue, $7 = Red, and $4 = White, for thefollowing (*) classes, Conformation *1 thru *12, Showmanshipand Fitting Classes *1 thru *4.

HEALTH MANAGEMENT and SAFETY14. A Universal Dairy Health Form for 4-H Animals must be

available for inspection at any time during the show. Animalsand their Health papers will be checked before unloading isallowed. ACFFD or 4-H reserves the privilege to amend healthrequirements as the need arises or VT State Health regulationschange.

15. HEALTH REGULATIONS:• Rabies vaccination with veterinarian’s certification to verify

the vaccination at least 30 days before the fair begins. Rabies vac-cinations are good for only one year.

• Vaccination required for shipping fever (respiratory disease).• Animals showing any signs, symptoms, suspicions or evi-

dence of any infectious disease, sickness or disorder (including,but not limited to, mange, warts, pinkeye, ringworm, scabies,foot rot) shall be barred from the grounds upon arrival and/or atany time during the show when such is detected.

• Recently calved animals must have passed their placenta andbe odor free.

• All animals over 6 months of age must be dehorned andhealed. No Horns allowed.

16. Dairy Leaders and Superintendents will inspect animals fordiseases and horns.

17. Dairy animals will be located and tied in the 4-H DairyBuilding according to instruction of the superintendents and/orthe 4-H leader. No animal is allowed out of the stall area withoutbeing haltered and under control.

18. 4-H Dairy Barn bedding is furnished. Exhibitors must bringtheir own hay, grain, and water pails. Wash hoses must be noz-zled during use. There will be no water tub.

SHOW PARTICIPATION EXPECTATIONS:19. Each 4-H club member should be present to show his/her

animal and should not receive help from any person outside theshow ring. No one is allowed in the show ring except exhibitors,judge and necessary attendants for safety reasons unless pre-approved by superintendents.

20. In group classes, all animals must be held by 4-H members.21. All 4-H dairy members are to be in the 4-H barn or at ring-

side during the 4-H show.22. The 4-H dairy project is a 4-H member activity. Members

ONLY should care and prepare the animal for the show.23. Show Uniform dress code: white or khaki pants, knee

length walking shorts or skirt and white shirt with collar thatcovers the entire midriff (no gaps between shirts and pants). Beltsand ties are desirable. Appropriate footwear required. No cloth-ing advertising a

farm name or breed or any other clothing considered inappro-priate by superintendents. No short skirts or short shorts.

24. Proper footwear must be worn at all times in the 4-H DairyBarn, wash rack and working with animals. No bare feet, flip-flops or open toe shoes.

25. There will be mandatory exhibitors meeting on Mondayevening, at 6:00pm in the 4-H Dairy show arena.

26. Club awards will be presented on Saturday at lunch break,at the Dairy Ring. All members and clubs should be represented.

27. There will be a night watchman on duty for the week. Barnlights will be turned out 11 p.m. – 4 a.m. (only milkers allowed).Doorways will be chained to contain loose animals at night.

Consequences of violations and infractions:28. Depending upon the severity of the infraction of any of the

above rules or other rules posted at fair time, the punishment caninclude, but is not restricted to the following:

• Send the member and their animal home.• Withhold premiums to the club• Recommend exclusion from participating in the rest of the

4-H CLUB HERDSMANSHIP EXHIBITEvery 4-H club exhibiting animals must

take part in this event. The purpose of theevent is to develop a sense of pride in theneatness of the dairy exhibitor and of theirarea; also to develop good sportsmanshipamong the youth of the county. Judging ofthis event will be based on the followingpoints:

A. Neatness of club area (cattle andarea).

B. Neatness of club members (dress andappearance).

C. Equipment (in good condition, inproper place).

D. Sportsmanship (in ring, in tent, onField Days grounds).

Judging includes all days of the Fair.Judging will be done on the Danish sys-tem. Clubs will receive either a blue, redor yellow ribbon. Premiums are awardedfor this event. Each club exhibiting willreceive a certain amount; The ribbonaward per animal and premium will bepaid to the club treasury.

Each club is to bring one yearling heiferthat can be handled and has a full coat ofhair with

its head clipped. An animal will revertto the club of origin if she is found to bedirty, unruly or

injured. She needs to have the samehealth requirements as the animals beingshown. She can

go home after the contest.DESCRIPTION OF CONTEST. Prior to entering the ring animals

should be clean, dry and the head clipped.. Animals will be previewed by the

judge prior to the contest beginning, thenthe clipping

team will have one hour to fit the ani-mal.

. Animals will be selected by a lotterytype system.

. Each team may use any equipment orproducts they deem necessary to fit theanimal.

. PDCA fitting guidelines will be consid-ered in topline height and no artificial orreplaced

hair will be accepted.. All clippers and other equipment need

to be turned off at the time limit end ofcontest.

All work on the animal must stop andteam members may begin to put equip-ment away.

Two monitors will be in the ring toobserve that team participants and specta-tors.

There should be no communication withanyone outside of the ring while the par-ticipants

are in the contest.. The judge for the contest will

announce placing and give reasons.. Immediately after the contest, each

RULES1. Exhibitors shall be familiar with - and comply with - both

these rules and with the general Field Days rules (copies avail-able from the office or any member of the Board of Directors).

2. An entry fee of $3.50 per animal shall accompany the entryform. Make checks payable to Addison County Fair & Field Days.All 4-H and FFA exhibitors are encouraged to enter the OpenDairy Cattle Shows, but must submit entry ahead of time.

3. Entries must be received by Marion Seifert not later than July21. There will be no entry fee for group classes. BECAUSE SUB-STITUTIONS ARE PERMITTED, NO LATE ENTRIES WILL BEACCEPTED.

In the event you do not receive an entry form in time to meetthe deadline, make out an entry form as best you can and mail it,with your entry fee, to the Entry Clerk. Based on the birth date ofthe animal, your entry will be assigned to the proper class. BESURE TO INDICATE THE BREED. If a dry cow, so indicate. If eli-gible for a production award, be sure to include all necessaryinformation.

4. ALL BREEDS: All animals over six (6) months of age must be

dehorned.5. There must be a person in charge and present on the grounds

for each cattle display.6. HOLSTEIN, BROWN SWISS AND GUERNSEY BREEDS

MUST BE ON THE GROUNDS NO LATER THAN 10 P.M. ONMONDAY AND WILL BE EXCUSED AFTER THE SHOW ONWEDNESDAY. THE HOLSTEIN, BROWN SWISS ANDGUERNSEY GRAND CHAMPIONS WILL BE THE ONLY ANI-MALS ALLOWED TO STAY ALL WEEK. All other Holsteins,Brown Swiss and Guernseys need to be off the grounds and cowbeds cleaned by 8:00 p.m. so the barn can be bedded betweengroups. AYRSHIRE, MILKING SHORTHORNS AND JERSEYBREEDS MAY START ARRIVING AFTER 8 PM WEDNESDAYAND MUST BE ON THE GROUNDS BY THURSDAY 10:00 A.M.AND MUST REMAIN ON THE GROUNDS UNTIL 9 P.M. ONSATURDAY. FFA AND 4-H ANIMALS MUST BE HOUSED INYOUTH BUILDING.

7. Movement of exhibits and/or vehicles between arrival anddeparture times shall be in accordance with the instructions andapproval of the Dairy Superintendent ONLY.

8. Milking parlor facilities will be available. There will be nopayment for milk produced.

9. Two exhibitors meetings will be held at 7:00p.m.-one onTuesday and one on Saturday. Both will be held in the OPENDAIRY BARN. It is desirable for each exhibitor to have one rep-resentative there.

10. P.D.C.A. rules apply to the conduct of the show (copiesavailable upon request).

11. All who are willing to abide by these rules are welcome toparticipate.

13. Holstein, Brown Swiss and Guernsey Grand Championsmust remain on the grounds until Saturday night or they will notbe eligible for Supreme.

14. There will be NO kick or curb boards allowed to reduce theamount of bedding used.

bons for Junior Champions, Senior Champions, Grand andReserve Champions.

HEALTH REQUIREMENTS1. State Health Regulations in effect at the time of entry shall

apply, if they happen to conflict with any of these requirements.An update will be sent with entry forms.

2. A health certificate prepared by a veterinarian shall berequired for all animals BEFORE stabling is permitted. Such cer-tificate shall be available for inspection at any time during theshow. Health papers will be checked before unloading. One cer-tificate will be sufficient for all shows: Open, 4-H, FFA, etc.

3. Vaccination for shipping fever is required.4. All livestock require Rabies vaccinations a minimum of thir-

ty (30) days before Field Days begins, with a veterinarian’s cer-tificate to verify the vaccination.

5. Animals showing any sign, symptom, suspicion or evidenceof any infectious disease, sickness or disorder (including, but notlimited to, mange, warts, pinkeye, ringworm, scabies) shall bebarred from the grounds upon arrival and/or at any time duringthe show when such is detected.

6. Animals over six (6) mos. of age must be dehorned.PASS POLICYYouth and Adult Exhibitors who participate every day

(includes FFA & 4-H Dairy, FFA & 4-H Beef, Open Beef, Open

Sheep Shows) may purchase season passes for $15.00 each as fol-lows:

Cooperation with Field Days management,along with consideration for optimum public relations with thefairgoing public, are inherent elements for winning aHerdsmanship award.

DAIRY AWARDSO.G. Farnham AwardPurpose: To enhance the Dairy Industry through better genet-

ics and improved mating practices. An individual must be com-mitted to dairy farming as an occupation.

CRITERIA FOR SELECTION1. Must be 15-25 years of age and a resident of Addison County.2. Must be actively engaged in farming and working toward a

future in dairy farming.3. Must own his/her own cattle and be interested in improving

his/her herd.4. Must have participated in Addison County Fair & Field Days

cattle show.METHOD OF SELECTION1. An individual must be the breeder, owner and exhibitor of

eligible animal.2. Animal must be milking two (2) year old shown in its prop-

er class (including all breeds in current year ’s dairy show class-es).

3. Winning animal must be selected by judge as best two (2)year old of all breeds, bred and owned by exhibitor.

AWARDThe recipient of the award will receive a check in the amount

The purpose of these contests is to provideall youth exhibitors a chance to participatein the Addison County Fields Day, as wellas provide displays describing the fun andvalue of youth sheep projects to the pub-lic.

There are three different contests avail-able for youth to enter. Youth are not lim-ited in the number of entries.

1. Photo Contest – All photographs mustbe taken by the youth making the entry.One entry/exhibitor. Entries may be blackand white or color photos. Photos measur-ing 5x7 minimum: 8x10 maximum. Entriesshould be labeled with a short identifyingcaption on the front. All photos must bematted and in a plastic sleeve, no framesplease.

2. Ad Layout Contest-Develop anAdvertisement promoting your sheepproject, sheep products or sheep industry.Do not use any commercial or brandnames, including farm names in your ad.(Think of this as developing a full-page adon your sheep project for a national maga-zine or flyer to distribute to the public atthe fair.) Finished advertisements shouldfit on paper size 8.5” x 11”.

3. Poster Contest- Youth may use pic-tures, drawings, photographs, charts andwords to promote one aspect of sheep pro-duction, management or showmanship-such as barn safety, proper animal nutri-tion, why people pick a specific breed, etc.Posters should make people stop, read andremember.

4. These contest are open to all youth inthe following age groups: Junior age 8-12;Intermediate/Senior age 13-21.

5. Exhibitor name, address, age as ofJan. 1, 2012 and contest entered must beattached to the BACK of each entry.

6. Copyrighted material, such as thePeanuts Cartoon characters, etc., and com-mercial signs, materials, or pictures pro-moting specific companies, farm names orproducts, may not be used.

7. Entries should have wires or stringsattached for hanging. If no other meansare provided, staples will be used to dis-play entries.

8. All entries must be received by 8 a.m.August 6th and picked up Aug. 11 after9:00pm.

YOUTH BLOCKING AND FITTING CONTESTSaturday, Aug. 11, 2012, 10:30-11:30

Entry Forms due Thursday, July 19, 2012The purpose of this contest is to allow

contestants the opportunity to show his orher ability and skills at preparing a sheepfor show. Judging will be based on team-work, blocking and trimming ability, tech-nique (i.e. patience gentleness) in han-dling a sheep which has not been handledbefore. Technique is using various piecesof trim equipment, and the ability to findand accentuate the good qualities of asheep.

1. Sheep will be assigned by a randomdrawing of numbers.

2. Senior (18-21 years of age as of Jan. 1,2012), Intermediate (13-17 years) andJunior (8-12 years) classes.

3. The oldest team member determinesthe age class in which the team will partic-ipate. Teams consist of two contestantsonly.

4. Untrimmed sheep will be provided.The trimming of feet is not part of contest.

5. Contestants handling sheep in a man-ner which might harm the sheep will bedisqualified.

6. During the contest, every team isgiven one hour to prepare and fit the ani-mal for show. Each team must providetheir own stand and equipment. Electricclippers are permitted; one pair of clippersper team is allowed. Judging will directlyfollow the hour of trimming time.

7. No opened-toe shoes are allowed dur-ing this contest!

8. Safety is key factor for both animaland contestants. Adults may assist youthonly when preparing ring and clearingequipment or when there is a safety issue.
