Waterproofing is a process that is designed to prevent water from penetrating a structure. Typically waterproofing is done in various layers and stages to create multiple barriers so that water cannot penetrate the structure. A combination of such stages is referred to as creating a “Building Envelope”.

However, often not enough importance is given to this very crucial area while constructing new structures. Over reliance on conventional and outdated systems, low awareness about modern waterproofing systems and lack of trained expertise for application are some of the reasons for the same. Here’s where Dr. Fixit can help you to get the best waterproofing solutions for your new constructions. Dr. Fixit is India’s leading brand in

Waterproofing with a wide variety of products and solutions to meet all your waterproofing needs - from foundations to walls to roofs. With access to the latest global technologies through its international subsidiaries and R&D centres, Dr. Fixit constantly brings innovative waterproofing solutions. Dr. Fixit also offers full technical support with large pool of trained applicators.

Call us now to benefit from our state-of-the-art waterproofing systems for your new constructions.

Basement waterproofing

DBWP 15

Surface Preparation

For horizontal application, the new concrete layer must be smooth and level and to be left to mature for at least 72 hours. Before laying the waterproofing membrane, the surface must be cleaned of any waste.

All surface imperfections, protrusions, structurally unsound and loose concrete must be removed and repaired with polymer modified mortar using Dr. Fixit Pidicrete URP.

Where the separate concrete layers are poured at different levels, the gaps must be filled and smoothed, in order to obtain a comparatively smooth surface. When cleaning the substrate, any pollutants, such as chemicals, curing agents etc., which may affect the membrane adhesion, must be removed.

Installation of Dr. Fixit Flexshield

membrane

Whenever Dr. Fixit Flexshield membrane is being installed, it is highly recommended that the membrane shall be laid at the position and allowed to relax for at least 45 minutes. This will help releasing the tensions in the membrane.

Always use geotextile 250 gsm for protection of the waterproofing membrane, loose laid on the concrete substrate.

On the horizontal sections the Dr. Fixit Flexshield membrane is loose laid between two layers of geotextile 120 gsm. The adjoining membrane sheets are seemed using a splice tape, as the overlapping must be at least

150 mm wide. A 50 mm protective cement-sand screed is laid on the installed horizontal sections of waterproofing system.

Its purpose is to protect the waterproofing system from damages, during the installation of the supporting structure (reinforcing, concrete casting, vibrations etc.)

In the vertical sections, the membrane may be fully adhered or loose laid using mechanical fastening at the upper end. The walls must be dry and smooth, without any lumps, sharp edges and protruding reinforcement.

Aluminum flashings should be used for the mechanical fastening, sealed with Dr. Fixit Silicon Sealant at the upper end. In case of full bonding the membrane to vertical surfaces, these must be clean and dry. The bonding adhesive is applied both to the membrane and to the substrate in uniform and smooth films; so that a continuous coverage of both surfaces can be obtained (membrane and substrate). The adhesive is left to cure, and then the membrane with the applied adhesive is rolled onto the adhesive covered substrate, avoiding the formation of folds and creases. The adjoining membrane sheets must overlap by approximately 150 mm.

The underground waterproofing system is finished at 500 mm above the level of the high soil waters.

The protective layer of geotextile 500 gsm is spot-adhered to the vertical Dr. Fixit Flexshield membrane, using bonding adhesive.

Surface Preparation

The internal surface areas (horizontal and vertical) shall be cleaned thoroughly of all contaminants like dust, traces of curing compound, oil and grease. All surface imperfections, protrusions, structurally unsound and loose concrete must be removed and repaired with polymer modified mortar using Dr. Fixit Pidicrete URP.

At internal side walls and raft junction cast 40 mm X 40 mm sized angle fillets all around the swimming pool floor.

Application

After complete curing of the raft slab and retaining walls apply 1st coat of Dr. Fixit Fastflex maintaining the saturated surface dry condition.

While the coat is still wet embed a glass fibre mesh of 2.5mm x 2.5 mm of 50 gsm over the angle fillets as a reinforcing strip and allow it to soak completely. Immediately apply one additional coat to sandwich this glass fibre mesh between the Dr. Fixit Fastflex coatings.

Apply the 2nd coat of Dr. Fixit Fastflex.

After the 2nd coat is completely dry apply 3rd coat of Dr. Fixit Fastflex and sprinkle coarse sand while it is still wet. This will provide the key for subsequent tile adhesive materials.

The inserts shall be wrapped around with Dr. Fixit Bathseal Tape to ensure a water-tight fitting. Light fitting casings, pipes, inserts, etc., provided in the concrete raft floor and walls are to be grouted with a non-shrink grout, Dr. Fixit Bathseal Grout.

Dr. Fixit Fastflex should be liberally applied around the insert pipes and the around the light fittings sandwiched with an open woven mesh to be extra precaution about these points.

Tiles shall then be applied using tile adhesives from ROFF range depending upon whether they are glass mosaics, or ceramics.

After the tile fixing fill the grooves / tile joints with epoxy based ROFF RTM tile grouts.

Surface Preparation

The surface shall be cleaned thoroughly of all contaminants like dust, traces of curing compound, oil and grease. All surface imperfections, protrusions, structurally unsound and loose concrete must be removed and repaired with polymer modified mortar using Dr. Fixit Pidicrete URP.

Priming

Apply Dr. Fixit Primeseal to a clean, smooth surface by brush or roller. Allow the primer to dry prior to the application of Dr. Fixit Newcoat. During application of Dr. Fixit Primeseal always maintain the saturated surface dry condition.

Application

Apply 1st coat of Dr. Fixit Newcoat and while it is still wet, lay an ‘open-woven’ 2.5 x 2.5 mm glass fibre mesh and allow it to soak completely.

Immediately apply 2nd coat of Dr. Fixit Newcoat to embed the mesh in coating. Allow it to dry completely.

Fix the wooden battens by drilling and using steel screws for fixing to avoid rusting. After drilling holes and before fixing the screws fix Dr. Fixit Bathseal Tape on bottom as well as top side of the batten. This will ensure a perfect seal around the screwed area. The battens must have enough number of grooves depending upon the length of the roof, for efficient drainage of water in case there is breakage of tiles.

Apply 3rd coat of Dr. Fixit Newcoat all over the area covering the wooden batten.

Carefully fix tiles on the batten. Take care not to rupture the coating while fixing tiles.

Never fix batten by hammering nails in concrete. It will damage the roof. Always use a drill machine to fix screws.

Podium Waterproofing with landscaping and swimming pool

PWP 10 (LSP)

Surface Preparation

All surface imperfections, protrusions, structurally unsound and loose concrete must be removed and repaired with polymer modified mortar using Dr. Fixit Pidicrete URP.

All surfaces must be cleaned with compressed air, free of loose materials, oils, form release agents and other contaminants.

Light fitting casings, pipes, insert, etc., provided in the concrete raft floor and walls are to be grouted with a non-shrink grout, Dr. Fixit Bathseal Grout. The inserts shall be wrapped around with Dr. Fixit Bathseal Tape to ensure a water-tight fitting.

Priming

Priming generally not required on concrete substrates for Dr. Fixit Extensa.

Application

Spray apply Dr. Fixit Extensa to achieve minimum thickness of 2.0 mm

Dr. Fixit Extensa is applied through designated equipment only. It cannot be sprayed through any other type of commonly available sprayers.

Extend the Dr. Fixit Extensa coating up to the top and covering the overflow concrete channels all around the periphery of the pool.

As per the plans drawn up by the structural engineer, lay the steel cage accordingly.

Reinforcing steel must be installed after the plumbing is complete. The steel is installed in a grid pattern following the requirements of the engineering calculations. Steel bar size can range from 3/8” diameter to 3/4” diameter depending on the requirements.

Concrete spacers ensure the steel is not against the wall or the floor of the pool. This system allows shotcrete to be evenly distributed under and above the steel.

a rule of thumb to remember when designing swimming pools is to minimize the number of separation joints between concrete sections in the pool!

Finish the shotcrete area with wooden float.

After curing and drying make angle fillets if necessary, all around the periphery of the pool wall with polymer modified mortar prepared with Dr. Fixit Pidicrete URP.

Now the shell of the swimming pool is ready to receive further waterproofing system.

Apply 1st coat of Dr. Fixit Fastflex maintaining the saturated surface dry condition.

While the coat is still wet embed a glass fibre mesh of 2.5 mm x 2.5 mm of 50 gsm over the angle fillets and allow it to soak completely. Immediately apply one additional coat to sandwich this glass fibre mesh between the Dr. Fixit Fastflex coatings.

System Life Expectancy of 10 years

Apply the 2nd coat of Dr. Fixit Fastflex.

After the 2nd coat is completely dry apply 3rd coat of Dr. Fixit Fastflex and sprinkle coarse sand while it is still wet. This will provide the key for subsequent tile adhesive materials.

Dr. Fixit Fastflex should be liberally applied around the inserts, pipes and the around the light fitting casings, sandwiched with an open woven mesh as an extra precaution about these points.

Now, start the application of tile adhesives from ROFF range depending upon whether they glass mosaics, or ceramics and fill the grooves / tile joints with epoxy based RTM coloured tile grouts.

Preliminary Preparation

Assess the problem area & suitably mark the spots for drilling grouting holes. If the intensity of running water is high & cannot be controlled, then divert the flow of water using a PVC pipe at the spot of leak.

For heavy dripping, mark the spots in a grid pattern 150 mm centre-centre or in case of spot dripping drill at the point of leakage at an angle of 45o to the plane of grouting.

Drill diameter for a hole should be corresponding to the packers in use (generally 16 mm - 20 mm) & depth of the hole drilled to be 100 mm deep or generally half the thickness of the substrate.

Fix alloy packers (non-return type) of dimension 14 mm x 80 mm with a suitable putty. Allow the putty to cure for 24 hrs prior to commencing the injection grouting process.

Application

Mix base & hardener in the specified proportions:

Dr. Fixit PU Foam Injection - 10 parts of base : 1 part of hardener

The mixing to be carried out in a completely dry container using a stirrer.

After rinsing the pump using a PU Cleaner, fill the PU mixture into the pumping container & initiate pumping on a low pressure & gradually build up the pumping pressure suitably

Stop pumping if back pressure is sensed or if the grout has oozed out of the adjoining hole.

PU foam injection oozes out of the grouting hole & hardens primarily in 10-15 minutes.

Complete curing of the PU foam will happen over a period of 24 hrs.

Mix base & hardener in the specified proportions:

Dr. Fixit PU Plain Injection - (2 parts of base: 1 part of hardener)

Dr. Fixit PU Plain Injection, resin injection to be pumped once the PU foam has set in a similar manner as that of foam.

This will act as a secondary injection thus completely sealing the leaking cavity.

Cut off the extended portion of the packer & seal the surface with suitable putty.

Choice of PU injection grout, Foam/Plain depends on the condition of the substrate & severity of leakage

Injection grouting for dampness using

Pagel ZS 10

Drill grouting holes at an angle of 45° on the wall adjacent to the area of leakage at a spacing of 500 mm centre to centre or less in a grid pattern.

Fix PVC or MS nozzles (packers) in the grouting holes using Dr. Fixit Instant Leak Plug or epoxy putty. Allow the nozzle to set for 24 hrs.

Add water at a ratio of 0.34-0.45 to pre-packed cementitious grout Pagel ZS 10 mix to a uniform consistency using a mixing paddle.

Using a grouting pump, inject Pagel ZS 10 through the nozzle at required pressure.

Grouting should commence from the lowest possible level & proceed upwards along the grid with the pumping pressure increased gradually.

Continue pumping until the grout flows out from adjacent nozzle. Detach the pump & nozzle and seal the grouting hole with Dr. Fixit Instant Leak Plug.

Re-instating of spalling plaster in floor/wall

& sealing construction joint

Chip off the damaged portion to obtain a sound surface with straight edges.

Wash the area with water & apply 1 primer coat of Dr. Fixit Pidicrete URP (1:1 with cement)

Prepare polymer modified mortar using Dr. Fixit Pidicrete URP (10-12%) on weight of cement. (cement :washed sand in 1:3) adjusting appropriate consistency as per water demand & apply while the primer is tacky.

Allow the repaired patch to cure adequately

Damp-proof coating of wall/floor

In case of continuous flow of water from a certain spot use Dr. Fixit Instant Leak Plug to seal it prior to the application of Dr. Fixit Krystalline on the damp patches.

Ensure complete surface preparation prior to application

Wire brush the surface to remove existing paint & putty so as to expose the plastered surface.

Ensure complete crack-filling as recommended & wet the surface prior to over-coating.

Brush apply 2 coats of damp-proof coating Dr. Fixit Krystalline over the plastered surface.

Time duration between two coats to be 4 hrs approx.

Air cure for 24 hrs prior to over-coating with decorative paint.

Surface Preparation

Remove Paint up to bare masonry surface from affected area by wire-brushing or other suitable means. Wipe surface with wet cloth to remove loose particles from Cement Plaster.

Fixing of nozzles

Drill holes with 12 - 15 mm bit at 45° angle, penetrating ¾ width of the wall. Starting from skirting level with 300 mm distance between each hole horizontally and 300 mm to 400 mm vertically from ground level, from centre to centre. A zigzag pattern to be formed to cover the entire area to be injected for effective result.

Fix the perforated PVC nozzles and seal them secure with Dr Fixit Instant Leak Plug and allow to set for one day before starting work.

Use grouting pump with minimum 2 Bar (2 kg / cm2) pressure capacity to pump the Dr Fixit Dampfree in wall.

Dilution of Dr. Fixit Dampfree depends upon the severity of problem, from 1 :1 to 1:5 with clean water.
