Transport and storageAMB 30 must be transported and stored vertically.

AssemblyPlace AMB 30 outdoors on a solid level base that cantake the weight, preferably a concrete foundation.If concrete slabs are used they must rest on asphaltor shingle.The concrete foundation or slabs must be positionedso that the lower edge of the evaporator is at thelevel of the average local snow depth, although aminimum of 300 mm.AMB 30 should not be positioned next to noisesensitive walls, for example, next to a bedroom.Also ensure that the placement does not inconveni-ence the neighbours.AMB 30 must not be placed so that recirculation ofthe outdoor air can occur. This causes lower outputand impaired efficiency.Place AMB 30 protected from direct wind.Large amounts of condensation water as well as meltwater from defrosting can be produced. Condensa-tion water must be led off to a drain or similar (seepage 6).Care must be exercised so that AMB 30 is notscratched during installation.

Do not place AMB 30 directly on the lawn or other nonsolid surface.

If there is a risk of roof slides a protective roof or similarshould be installed over AMB 30, pipes and wiring.

Condensation water troughThe condensation water trough is used to collect andlead away most of the condensation water from AMB30.

NOTE

It is important for the air collector module op-eration that condensation water is led awayand that the drain for the condensation waterrun off is not positioned so that it can causedamage to the house.

NOTE

Pipe with heating cable for draining the con-densation water trough are not included.

NOTE

The electrical installation and wiring must becarried out under the supervision of an author-ised electrician.

Caution

If none of the recommended alternatives isused good lead off of condensation watermust be assured.

The condensation water (up to 100 litres/24 hrs)collected in the trough should be routed via a pipeto an appropriate drain, it is recommended that theshortest outdoor stretch possible is used.The section of the pipe that can be affected by frostmust be heated by the heating cable to preventfreezing.Route the pipe downward from AMB 30.The outlet of the condensation water pipe must beat a depth that is frost free or alternatively indoors(with reservation for local ordinances and regula-tions).Use a water trap for installations where air circulationmay occur in the condensation water pipe.Insulate the pipe (at least 19 mm of insulation) allthe way outside.The insulation must be tight against the bottom ofthe condensation water trough.

Fix the drainage hose to the connection under AMB30 (recommended dimension 32 mm) with hoseclamps.

If the house has a cellar the stone caisson must be po-sitioned so that condensation water does not affectthe house. Otherwise the stone caisson can be posi-tioned directly under the heat pump.

GeneralPipe installation must be carried out in accordance withcurrent norms and directives.

Because AMB 30 is not equipped with shut off valves,drain valve and vent valve these must be installed tofacilitate any future servicing.

NOTE

If AMB 30 is installed in an existing system anylevel vessel on the brine side must be replacedwith a pressure expansion vessel.

NOTE

The pipe work must be flushed before AMB30 is connected, so that any contaminants donot damage the components parts.

System diagramAMB 30 is a heat absorbing air collector module whichis an accessory for NIBE F1345. AMB 30 is connectedto F1345 only (outdoor air operation) or in combinationwith a ground source/horizontal ground collector (hy-brid operation) to supply the heat pump with renew-able energy. AMB 30 utilises the outdoor air so thereis no need for bore holes or coils in the ground.

AMB 30 is in principle an element that exchanges theair’s energy with a liquid system using an axial fan andcontrol system. The fan has two speeds that eitherchange automatically at the selected ambient temper-ature or is manually set to high/low speed.

The unit’s control system is connected to a control unit(BCU 30) where all the settings and monitoring occurs.This control unit is installed indoors. The control systemmanages all functions such as fan operation, defrosting,selection of operating mode, and stopping the com-pressor during defrosting and at low ambient temper-ature.

The material has been chosen for a long service life andis designed to withstand demanding outdoor condi-tions.

Outdoor air operation mode

During outdoor air operation AMB 30 only uses theoutdoor air as a heat source and operation is permitteddown to an outdoor air temperature of approx -7 C.Outgoing brine from F1345 is connected directly tothe air module. When the ambient temperature islower than the dimensioned balance temperature (thelowest temperature where the heat pump can manageall the heating) additional heat must be accessible tosupplement the heat pump.

Hybrid operation mode

In hybrid operation AMB 30 uses the outdoor air incombination with ground /rock collector as the heatsource. Outgoing brine from the F1345 is connecteddirectly to the air module and on via a reversing valveto the ground/rock collector.

Outdoor air operation only

When the ambient temperature is higher than 12 °C(selectable) the control switches the reversing valvesto operation with only AMB 30. Above this ambienttemperature the brine temperature is more effectivefrom the AMB 30 than the ground/rock collector.

Ground/rock collector operation only

When the ambient temperature falls the temperaturedifference between outdoor air and the brine is re-duced. At a set min. difference the control switches tooperation with only ground/rock collector.

In this mode AMB 30 cannot contribute to increasingthe brine temperature. It is more efficient for the unitto use just the ground/rock collector.

Hybrid operation

When the outdoor air temperature is between approx.0and 12°C the controls switches the reversing valves tooperation with both AMB 30 and ground/rock collector(hybrid operation). At these temperatures the heatpump can use both the ground/rock collector and AMB30 to supply the energy as long as the ambient temper-ature is sufficiently much warmer than the brine tem-perature. This operating mode increases the unit’s effi-ciency and uses both the ground/rock collector andAMB 30 in the best way.

Brine sideConnecting the brine sideAMB 30 can be connected to the brine system accord-ing to one of the system solutions on page X or thatcan be downloaded from the website www.nibe.eu.

AMB 30 must be vented by the upper connection (XL7,brine out) using the venting nipple (not supplied) in-stalled on the pipe.

The brine anti-freeze must be sized to at least the in-stallation location's design outdoor temperature (DOT).

On installation with only outdoor air operation, thebrine in the pipes must be ethylene glycol (40% volumepercent). Refer to the heat pump "Installer Manual" forinstallation with hybrid operation.

When several AMB 30 are installed in the same systemeach AMB 30 must be equipped with control valves toadjust the flow.

Docking alternativesGeneralAMB 30 can be installed in several different ways. Therequisite safety equipment must be installed in accord-ance with current regulations for all docked options.

Outdoor air operation

Defrosting

When the ambient temperature falls below +5 -+6 °Cthe air module needs to be defrosted. The intelligentcontrols in AMB 30 ensure that defrosting is alwaysoptimised and demand controlled.

At temperatures above approx +3 °C defrosting ispassive, that is the energy is retrieved from the outsideair by the fan in operation. At lower temperatures act-ive defrosting is required when the energy is retrievedfrom the house's heating system via a heat exchanger.

Hybrid operation

Defrosting

At certain ambient temperatures defrosting of the airmodule may be required even in hybrid operation, thisapplies to operation at minus degrees in both outdoorair and brine.

GeneralAll electrical equipment, except the ambient temperat-ure sensor, circulation pumps, reversing valves and ex-ternal communication is already connected at thefactory.

The cables for heavy current and the signal cablesshould be routed from the side at the folded part ofthe side panel on the left-hand side of AMB 30. Powersupply is routed through the cable grommet UB1,power supply for the circulation pumps and reversingvalves through UB2 toUB4, communication cablesthrough UB5 to UB7 and signal cables through the re-maining cable grommets.

Connection of AMB 30 may not occur without theapproval of the electricity supplier and must be su-pervised by an authorised electrician.Disconnect the heat pump and AMB 30 before insu-lation testing the house wiring.If the building is equipped with an earth-faultbreaker, each AMB 30 should be equipped with aseparate one.If a miniature circuit breaker is used it should havemotor characteristic “C”. For MCB size see "TechnicalSpecifications".For the air collector module electrical wiring diagram,see page 45.Communication and sensor cables to external con-nections must not be laid close to high current cables.The minimum area of communication and sensorcables to external connections must be 0.5 mm² upto 50 m, for example EKKX or LiYY or equivalent.When cable routing in AMB 30, cable grommets mustbe used according to the table below.

The control unit, BCU 30 (AA25)The control unit (AA25) is most easily positioned onthe wall where it is easy to access.

Unscrew the screw to open the control unit and accessthe circuit board. The screw is underneath a rubbercover on the front of the control unit (see image).

Compressor blocking in NIBE F1345 whendefrostingFor NIBE F1345 to know when the compressors mustbe stopped (blocked), AMB 30 must be connected tothe heat pump.

This connection is only made in one of the followingcases:

Hybrid system containing one or more AMB 30 to-gether with a single F1345. If the hybrid systemcontains several F1345 defrosting can occur withoutcompressor blocking.All outdoor air systems.

Then AMB 30 must be connected so that at least onecompressor is blocked during defrosting. A AMB 30can block either one or two compressors in F1345. Theconnection must be made so that all compressors inthe system can be blocked.

Use a 2 core cable of at least 0.5 mm² cable area.

In F1345 the cable is connected from AMB 30 to thesoftware controlled inputs on terminal block X6. Thesoftware in F1345 (menu 5.4) determines the functionfor the selected input.

Selectable inputs on the input card for these functionsare AUX1 (X6:17), AUX2 (X6:18) and AUX3 (X6:19). Asoftware input per compressor that is to be blocked isrequired (select "block compressor EP14" and "blockcompressor EP15").

When the input for blocking the compressor in F1345is connected the compressor will be stopped regardlessof operating state and operating type.

Connection, one AMB 30 to a F1345

In the example below AMB 30 is connected to thesoftware controlled input AUX1 in F1345.

PreparationsBefore commissioning, check that the brine circuit isfilled and well vented. Check the pipe system for leaks.

Filling and venting the brinesystemThe brine system is filled with liquid to the requiredpressure according to the heat pump installation andmaintenance instructions. Vent the system using theventing nipple at the brine out (XL7) and possibly thecirculation pump.

Start-up and inspection, Out-door air operation1. Check that the brine system has been vented.2. Turn the isolator switch on.3. Check that all incoming phases are powered.4. Check that the miniature circuit-breaker (FA1) is

on.5. Go into service mode in the control panel (hold the

OK button in for 6 seconds) and select what typeof system (Hybrid or Outdoor air) is installed in themenu "System type".

6. Start the heat pump according to the starting in-structions.

7. Go to menu 5.1.7 (br pmp al set.) in the heat pumpand change "min. brine out" to -12 °C.

8. Fill in the installation checks on page 3 and theinstallation information in the user handbook.

Readjusting, collector sideAir is initially released from the refrigerant and ventingmay be necessary. Whenthe system is stable (correct pressure and all air elimin-ated) the automatic control system can be set as re-quired.

Adjustment, charge flowWhen installing with several AMB 30 the brine flow isadjusted so that it is evenly divided between the unitswith maximum flow.

Emptying the brine systemIn order to service the brine system it may be easier todrain the system first.

NOTE

See the heat pump Installer handbook formore information.

Draining the brine system in the air collector mod-ule

If, for example, the brine pump requires replacing orthe air collector module requires other servicing, drainthe brine system as follows:1. Switch off the heat pump and cut the power to

AMB 30.2. Close the shut-off valve outside AMB 30 for the

brine system.3. Open the drain valve (QM1) and lead off the liquid

to a suitable container.4. Air must get into the system for the remaining

brine to run out. Do this by opening a vent valve.

When the brine side is empty the requisite service canbe carried out.

Helping the circulation pump to start

1. Loosen the venting screw (QM5) with a screwdriver.Hold a cloth around the screwdriver blade as asmall amount of water may run out.

2. Insert a screwdriver and turn the pump motoraround.

3. Screw in the venting screw (QM5).

It is usually easier to start the circulation pump withF1345 running, switch (SF1) set to " ". Helping the cir-culation pump to start is performed with F1345 run-ning, be prepared for the screwdriver to jerk when thepump starts.

TroubleshootingThe following tips can be used to rectify comfort dis-ruption:

Basic actionsStart by checking the following possible fault sources:

That the heat pump/air collector module is runningor that the supply cable to AMB 30 is connected.Group and main fuses of the building.The building's earth circuit breaker.The air collector module's miniature circuit breaker(FA1).

AMB 30 is not operationalThe control system has not given the startsignal.

Cause:

Check that the heat pump is operating.Action:

Fuses have tripped.Cause:

Replace the fuse or reset the MCB. If thefuse trips again the installation engineershould be contacted.

Action:

Outdoor temperature is colder than setvalue in menu "BT28 min.". Indicated as"Low BT28" in the control unit.

Cause:

Wait until the outdoor temperature ishigher than the set stop value (menu"Low BT28").

Action:

Outdoor temperature hotter than 50 °C.Indicated as "High BT28" in the controlunit.

Cause:

Wait until the outdoor temperature isbelow 48 °CC.

Action:

Fan stopped.Cause:

Ensure that the air flow is not blocked. Ifthe fault remains contact the installationengineer.

Sound pressure levelsAMB 30 is usually placed next to a house wall, whichgives a directed sound distribution that should beconsidered. Accordingly, you should always attemptto find a placement on the side that faces the leastsound sensitive neighbouring area.

The sound pressure levels are further affected by walls,bricks, differences in ground level, etc and shouldtherefore only be seen as guide values.

AMB 30 works with low fan speed or high fan speeddepending on the outdoor temperature.
