A Quick Reference Guide for Viewing and Using Excel Lists of TLC Current Licensees that can be found on the TLC Website

The New York City Taxi and Limousine Commission has valuable information available on its website. TLC rules, application forms, Industry information and Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) are among the useful pieces of material readily available at the click of the mouse. In addition, the TLC uploads DAILY lists of all our current licensees by license type in Microsoft Excel. These lists can be opened/viewed and also downloaded/saved by anyone visiting the website. Using the TLC list of Current Licensees, you can verify the current status of a TLC-licensed entity with just a few simple steps. IMPORTANT FOR BASE/BUSINESS OWNERS: You can use these lists in lieu of the current Licensee Link portal. In fact, they give you even more information because your Licensee Link does not allow you to view the license status of Drivers, but you can download a Drivers List from the website. Using these lists will allow you to do a comprehensive search of all your drivers and vehicles before you dispatch them to provide service to the riding public. So remember - downloading lists on a daily basis of current licensees will allow base owners, managers and vehicle owners to have the most up to date list (as of the close of business the prior business day) of TLC licensed business entities, vehicles and drivers. Please note - these lists only include those TLC licensees who are allowed to provide services as of the prior business day. Anyone not on these lists should not be operating unless their status has been confirmed. So let’s take a minute to walk through the steps to access the Current Licensees and Open Summonses for TLC Licensees lists. Please go to the next page for a step-by-step explanation of how to access these lists on your home or work computer.

-- Open a web browser on your computer and go to the TLC website: www.nyc.gov/tlc Click on the Licensing/Industry Information link on the navigation bar to get to the Current Licensees link.

Click on the Current Licensees link on the navigation bar to get to the main screen listing all current licensed TLC entities.

You will now be on a page of the TLC Website, which is headed “CURRENT LICENSEES” You can also reach this page directly by entering http://www.nyc.gov/html/tlc/html/industry/current_licensees.shtml into your web browser.

On this page choose the list you would like to open or download and save. For the purposes of this demonstration, we are going to open and save the list titled: Current Community Car Service Vehicles – sorted by affiliated TLC base License number

Once you click the link to access the list needed you will see a popup similar to the one below. The file must be saved to your computer to access the Excel functions of the list. SO PLEASE CLICK SAVE (and choose the destination on your computer to which to save to).

Please note – The file changes each business day (before saving you may want to add the date of your download to

the file name (e.g. current_community_car_service_vehicles_01.10.13). The data in the list is only of licensees who are in a current status. Licensees that are suspended or

have been revoked are not on these lists and should not be used until their status is verified. Once the list has been downloaded you can open directly through Excel and use the functions of Excel, or transfer the data to another application such as Microsoft Access to create reports, etc. Through Excel you have the option of using the Edit/Find function to enter a specific License Number, VIN, DMV License Plate, etc to locate the information for a current licensee. Below is a screenshot of a portion of the downloaded list.

Click on the Licensing link (highlighted on the picture below)or at the link on the navigation bar to get to the main screen listing of the different Base applications, and TLC status information for bases, vehicles and drivers.

For the purpose of this demonstration, we are going to open and save the list entitled: Open Summonses for TLC Licensees

Select Active FHV Drivers Open Summonses – sorted by TLC license Number

Once you click the link to access the list needed you will see a popup similar to the one below. The file must be saved to your computer to access the Excel functions of the list. SO PLEASE SAVE (and choose the destination on your computer to which to save to).

To find your base information, hold down the Ctrl key and click on the F key

Enter the base number and click on “Find All”. The Computer will search for your base number. If your base has any summonses, your base license number will be highlighted.

Medallion and SHL Information: Medallion and SHL files are now in the “OpenData” format. Please note that these files are not in Microsoft Excel. This is how you will see the information about your license or SHL permit. It will show the latest update and the status of your license including your name, expiration date, etc.
