Data
• is standardized and homogenised (parameters, metadata, etc.)
• quality checked• well documented• international standards are used• archived in a world data center (WDC) = long-
term archived• is made available via internet• is password protected if required by the PI
So far so good, but how do I find the data?
It is search engine like
Now I have a file – I had one before I delivered the data, but what is the
advantage? And what can I do with the data
afterwards?
Since all the data is archived in a relational data base and the export
format is always the same - can you easily convert the data to
different formats e. g. Ocean Data View - by using a converter
Pan2Applic – converter for data from PANGAEA / WDC-MARE
• Can be downloaded using the url http://www.pangaea.de/Software/Pan2Applic/
• And is available for Windows, Mac and Linux
A few easy steps to visualize data and/or combine data sets
• Download the data from the data portal
• Drag’n’drop the data (you can use a folder or single files) to the converter Pan2Applic (please install it)
• Choose the software
• Choose the parameters
• And take a look using e.g. ODV
Example:
First Drag’n’drop the folder on the icon of Pan2ApplicAnd choose the porgram (ODV recommendend) and confirm
Then choose Date/Time as the geocode and confirm.Afterwards choose the parameters to shall be displayed.
Define the range (default is enough) and wait until the data is converted.Afterwards is Ocean Data View automatically opened and you can start workingwith the data. A manual for ODV can be found under http://odv.awi-bremerhaven.de/
If you encounter any problems or if you need help can always contact me!
Remember: You can use the same procedure for all the data that is available from www.pangaea.de as well!
