Known Problem EbscoHost does not seem to be able to handle users trying to access different institutions’ content within
the same computer session.
For example if you try to access Ebsco databases via your Keele username / password and then via
your NHS Athens username / password, it cannot distinguish who you are and can end up blocking
access for both access routes.
This may be further complicated if you are using a Keele networked computer where Ebsco
automatically detects you as a Keele University user and blocks you accessing the databases via the
NHS route.
The error may look like this:
Figure 1 Error screen presented when trying to access multiple institutions' resources
Where the institution detected may be Keele University or any of our NHS-based organisations.
You can try to clear the Internet cache for Ebsco by clicking here and click on the option "Remove
EbscoHost Authentication Cookie". If this doesn't work, the best we can suggest is to log out, restart your
computer then only use one set of resources (Keele or NHS) for the computer session; log out and
restart your computer to use the other set of resources.
Ebsco databases include Cinahl and Medline with full-text. We subscribe to both these sets of
resources for our Keele University users and our NHS users.
Access journals via publisher / platform from the NHS Journals A-Z List.
When you are looking for a journal title you should always start at the NHS Journals A-Z list in order to
identify the publisher / platform / database where we subscribe to the journal title.
1. Start at the Journals page on the Health Library website.
2. Go to the NHS Journals A-Z List by clicking the NHS Journals link.
3. Login with your NHS Athens username and password.
Click either the OpenAthens link at the top right-hand corner or via the OpenAthens link in the
yellow box.
4. Search for the journal title that you require.
5. Click the publisher / platform link for the journal title.
Example Journal Title Here is an example of a Cinahl journal on the NHS Journals A-Z list:

in again.
