SwiveiMASTER®.

Microcore BitTM The Microcore Bit (MCB) is the latest Tercel drill bit technology innovation, resulting from an extended

R&D program led in collaborat ion with TOTAL S.A. The MCB allows a small diameter core to be cut whi le

dri ll ing. The core is broken by the bit and ca rried to surface through the annulus along with the cuttings.

In comparison to conventional drill bits, the MCB delivers sign ificant ly increased rates of penetration,

from 15% to 25%, and produces higher quality cu tt ings to enhance formation eva luation. The MCB was

developed by Diamant, which is leading further research and development for even more effective

products.

Swivel MASTER® The SwiveiMASTER® is a dri ll-pipe or work string deployed tool that allows the upper string to be rotated

with either tension or compression force being applied at the tool without rotation or torque being

applied to the string or BHA be low it This abil ity to rotate the upper workst ring provides a dramatic

reduct ion in workstring fr ict ion above the SwiveiMASTER®. This significant increase in avai lable force at

the tool dramatically enhances deployment in or retri eval of complex eq uipment in ERD well s.

The tool ca n be locked with the applicat ion of predetermined differential pressure at any time to allow

fu ll torque to be transmitted to the BHA below the tool. The SwiveiMASTER® can be provided in ei ther

single shot or mu lt i-funct ion form that ca n be locked and unlocked multiple t imes as requi red.

Roller Reamer The Roller Reamer is an effic ient bottom hole assembly (BHA) reaming and torque reducing tool. It

provides ream ing action for improved borehole shape, size and quality. It also provides stabilization

act ion by centralizing the BHA, minimizing down-hole vibrat ions, preventing the BHA from resting on

the low side of the deviated hole, and minimizing BHA fatigue. Torque reduction resu lts from touch ing

the formation with a set of ro ll ers spinning around thei r axes as a result of rotation of the cent ral body.

The Roller Reamer is engineered and optimized to comprise a set of advanced features for enhanced

rea ming, high durabi lity and max imum reliability.

Slim WELL® SideTRACKTM SlimWELL® SideTRACK'M is pr imarily an in-fill well/brown-field construct ion system run in sidetracked

wel ls based on flush-jointed close-clea rance cased liners that all ows a la rger than convent ional size of

pipe to be delivered at TD.

The system utilizes the patented Ca ledus® MaxBORE'M Liner Hanger System with its bu il t in swab, surge

and ECD management system to mitigate the ri sks normal ly associated with close-clearance casing

regimes.

Case Study TO Solutions ™

Tercel provides Total Depth Solution to combat challenging well

Well Challenge

A major operator working in the Norwegian sector of the North Sea had drilled an ERD well to a TD of 5,952m. The operator faced a challenge to run a 2,000m long 7" slotted liner with swell packers to TD in 9 /'4" hole, as the whole liner would be pushed out into the horizontal section of the well when at TD. Furthermore, the 9 /'4" hole had been drilled through many mixed layers of both hard and soft formation, all lying at an awkward tangent to the direction of the wellbore. The result of this was a hole with many washouts and ledges as well as a high potential for collapsed hole and swollen shale sections. It was not possible to rotate the completion to help the string pass any such obstacles, as the torque required for rotation was in excess of the capabilities of the 7" slotted pipe.

Solution

Tercel was able to provide a series of tools which complimented each other and were used together to combat the challenges faced by the customer;

A Caledus® SwiveiMASTER® was run in the landing string, just above the top of the liner. The SwiveiMASTER® was run in 'swivel' mode, allowing the landing string to be rotated without imparting torque to the delicate completion below. By turning the pipe, this allowed the drag caused by the running string to be dispersed rotationally; ensuring that weight slacked-off at surface was not depleted or lost through friction of the landing string.

Caledus® EzeeGLIDER® centralisers were installed along the slotted liner at regular intervals. Not only did the EzeeGLIDERs® give good stand-off, but they significantly reduced drag by creating a low friction bearing surface between the completion and the host casing I open hole.

A Caledus® NaviGATOR TM was installed into the shoe track of the 7" slotted liner string in order to give the ability to rotate the shoe through reciprocation of the string, in the event that the string met an obstruction (such as a ledge) when running in hole.

A Caledus® eccentric nosed SlickSHOE™ was installed on the end of the string to help the string find its way past obstructions. The combination of the eccentric nose and now having the ability to rotate the nose with a NaviGATOR™ through reciprocation of the string, gave the liner a much improved chance of navigating past obstructions and reaching TD.

NaviGATOR™

TERcE--L-..~ OILFIELD PRODUCTS

Result/Benefit

The completion was run in to hole and met an obstruction at a depth of approximately 4,800m. When attempting to pick up, an overpull was observed. An attempt was made to free the pipe, resulting in a slack-off of 61 Ton and an overpull of 50 Ton, with no success. The overpull was increased and eventually the pipe was worked free with 90 Ton overpull. The string was then re-run past the obstruction without issue, reaching the planned TD. Post run analysis of the incident indicated that the string had stood up on a ledge and become stuck. The use of the NaviGATOR™ in the string meant that when pulling the pipe free, the NaviGATOR™ extended, rotating the eccentric-nosed SlickSHOE™ clockwise. When running back in hole, slacking off weight caused the NaviGATOR ™ to further rotate the SlickS HOE™, orienting the eccentric nose around the obstruction so that the string could now pass the ledge.

EzeeGLIDER™

In this application, as the EzeeGLIDERs® reduced friction caused by the slotted liner and the combination of NaviGATOR™ and SlickSHOE™ allowed the string to be worked past any obstructions at the nose, the available hookload at surface remained high. As a result of this, it was not essential that the SwiveiMASTER® was rotated in order for the string to reach TD. The string was however rotated at several occasions on the way to TD to record hookload gains through use of the tool. The last of these was at a depth of 4,800m, where rotation was shown to increase the hookload from 100 Ton to 113 Ton, an increase of 13 Ton (29klbs) .

Case Study TO Solutions TM

NaviGATOR™

As the completion continued to be run into the well, it was pushed further out into the horizontal section. The rigid EzeeGLIDER® centralisers ensured that the completion had good stand-off from the wellbore to ensure that it did not hang up. on the w~y into the hole. In addition, the superior low friction bearing qualities of the EzeeGLIDERs® reduced friction, ensuring that drag was kept to an absolute minimum as the string progressed along the horizontal section to TD.

Swivel MASTER®

In this application, it was imperative that the string reached the planned TD to ensure that the swell packers and slotted liner were correctly positioned in the formation. The customer stated that without the use of the NaviGATOR™ giving the ability to rotate the eccentric nosed SlickSHOE™ past ledges, the string would not have been able to reach planned TD. The EzeeGLIDERs® also substantially reduced friction over the slotted liner, ensuring that the completion could slide to TD without having to use the SwiveiMASTER® to increase the available slack-off weight. Although in this instance the Swivel MASTER® was not essential in getting the string to TD, it demonstrated the ability to increase the available hookload if required; making it excellent insurance in the event that available hookload was lost before reaching TD.

OILFIELD PRODUCTS Swivel MASTER®

Case Study: Successful run of the 5" SwiveiMASTER® in well PRP-606, Pazflor field, Block 17, offshore Angola for Total E&P Angola. 02 2011

Objective:

PRP~606 was drilled offshore Angola to a Total Depth of 3,047m (9,994ft) MD, the well was drilled directionally to a maximum of 90 degrees inclination at TD. The completion objective was to run 5 %" sand screens along a 800m (2 ,624ft) horizontal open hole section to TD.

Summary:

The 5" SwiveiMASTER was installed in the string with the lower completion assembly. The string was rotated at 2,955m to demonstrate the increase in hookload (the graph below illustrates this increase) and to compare against the predicted gains on the pre-job modelling.

When the string was rotated the hookload increased by 6 tonnes from 122 to 128 tonnes. Upon reaching TD the setting ball was dropped but it did not seat correctly preventing pressure from rising above 2,700psi, and consequently not being able to release the setting tool. This meant the secondary rotate-to-release mechanism had to be used and rotation had to be induced which required the SwiveiMASTER to be locked.

Conclusions:

• The 5" SwiveiMASTER generated 6 tonnes extra hookload as expected

·-I ,. ,, ,. '

5" SwiveiMASTER I

• The SwiveiMASTER locked as planned at 2,500psi allowing the setting tool to be rotated off the completion and proving it can be relied upon

• Overall the SwiveiMASTER showed its benefits demonstrating that more complex future wells will benefit from the use of Swivel MASTER for deploying the sand screens to TD efficiently.

Case Study

Well Challenge

• Extended reach well with 9,000'TVD and total measured length of 23,000' exiting through a window at 71 degrees with an aggressive faced whipstock

• Planned 7,000' of 5W' completion with liner hanger packer, well screens and swellable packers

• Multiple (9) coal seams and undulating well profile in excess of 109 degrees and then 90 degree horizontal section to TO

• Initially about exiting the window and the high potential for re-entering should the liner completion assembly not be able to reach full setting depth.

• High frictional forces that could necessitate rotation of the wells screens and swellable packers in order to reach target setting depth.

• High side load forces through undulating coal seams and requirement for positive standoff across producing zone .

Solution

• Using client provided well and survey data BOScalc™ predictive models were run using a range of historical field friction factors as well as those for BOS21 material type EzeeGLIDER® 2000 centralisers

• Models were also run to simulate standoff effects with up to 1" loss of centraliser 00. BOScalc™ came back reporting significant friction reduction with no compressive failure of workstring and acceptable standoff across producing zone.

• Head to head comparative testing across the aggressive whipstock face was done and the EzeeGLIDER® 2000 did not bind or jam as did other metal products.

• Based on BOScalc™ reports Caledus proposed client run (2) EzeeGLIDER® 2000 Spiral Centralisers per joint, (377) total, with single units on each of the first two joints to provide a flexible guide to initiate window exit. Spacing of EzeeGLIDER®s 2000 was designed to provide maximum flexibility for both running and retrieving the assembly should well stability issues necessitate.

EzeeGLIDER®

Resu lt/Benefit

• After several days dealing with some major hole stability issues the client ran the 5Yz" liner completion with no issues exiting the window.

• They reported historically low friction factors for the field and no requirement to rotate the completion assembly at any point during the operation.

• Client will utilize EzeeGLIDER® 2000 Centralizers on future wells and is also interested in looking at incorporating a SingleRUN™ Motor on future completions as a contingency to the 4-5 days of hole conditioning required prior to running this completion.

• Of note, hole issues did require the client to shorten the length of the final liner completion string to deal only with the targeted zqpe of int~~e~. :

1whereas the initial plan of the

longer assembly was .to •also have access to a lower zone as well.

OILFIELD PRODUCTS BridgeBUSTER® FastDRILL™

Description

The BridgeBUSTER® FastDRILL rM is designed to be run on the bottom of the casing or liner to enable strings to be washed, rotated and reamed to planned Total Depth. This latest generation of the already successful BridgeBUSTER® has been refined and focus has been placed on further improvement of drillout times without compromising the reaming capabilities.

The tool does not include any valves so as to reduce the risk of debris damage to the valve system while reaming into the well. The company recommends that a normal float collar or double valve float collar is run some distance back from the BridgeBUSTER® to ensure they are not compromised in performance when reaming.

By not including valves in the tool and by reducing the amount of aluminium and other proprietary features in the nose design, time spent drilling is greatly reduced thus minimising the risk to the BHA and to the integrity of the casing shoe stability.

Applications

Provides enhanced deployment in problematic formations, coal beds, sloughing shale, ledged well bores, ERD, highly deviated and horizontal well bores for applications such as:

• Lower sand screen completions • Liners (cemented or non-cemented) • All casing strings • Slotted or pre-perforated liners • Gravel pack installations • TIRO completions • Multi-lateral completions • Casing exits

Benefits

• Increases probability of casings and liners reaching planned TO

• Can be run in conjunction with a NaviGATOR™ to provide end of casing rotation where the full string cannot be rotated

• Provides low cost improvement in operational efficiency

• Low cost insurance • Fast drill out significantly reduces drilling inside

casing time thus protecting BHA and casing • Fast drill out time significantly reduces the risk of

damage to the casing shoe integrity which could cause leak off or ledge issues at the shoe

• Improves bit performance

Well Challenge Model Number

Due to an unforeseen drilling hazard, a Major North Sea operator needed to change the liner he had planned to run to a smaller size. After setting this liner it was planned to carry out a high pressure frac job, however due to the change in liner size the shoe track equipment available was not compatible with this planned frac job. Challenge - The new string available was equipped with a standard open nose shoe, which would not contain the press~Jre required to frac the well.

Case Study

Well Challenge

• A major operator working offshore Tunisia had experienced extreme losses into a fractured formation while drilling the 8W' hole section trying to get to TO

• Several different approaches had been made to TO this well resulting in similar ends, stuck pipe, fishing, then sidetracking

• The hole had been drilled, but getting the completion to TO was a major concern due to the extreme differential pressures seen at the loss zone

• In order to isolate the loss zone, a plug was run inside the 9%" casing, set at 8130ft MD with 500ft of low compressive strength cement placed on top

• A solution was needed to be able to drill through the cement & plug, get past the loss zone and get the completion to TO

Solution

• It was decided to try the SingleRUN™ Motor (SRM) to try and overcome the problem

• The motor was run with an 8W' rock bit on bottom, crossed over to the 4W' x 5W' x 7" lower completion, which was run with lCD tools and packers for zonal isolation, making it imperative to get to TO in order to have the correct isolation barriers in place

• Once the cement had set, the whole 1300m liner plus drilling/reaming assembly was run in hole on drill pipe with an inner string to carry flow to the SRM which was then used to drill out the 500ft of cement and the bridge plug

• The rig pumped at 5.5bpm with 1220psi to get the motor through the cement, then, on tagging the plug, the pressure applied was lowered to 5.5bpm and 680psi to drill through the plug. Drilling through the 500ft cement, the cast iron bridge plug then reaming on to TO took approximately 35 hours

• Caledus® personnel onboard worked closely with the rig crew to ensure they had all the technical support required in order to work within the tool limits and the pressure limitations of the liner system

SingleRUN™ Motor

Result/Benefit

• The SingleRUN™ Motor, performed as required, getting the completion to bottom first time

• The operator was very happy with the performance of the tool and intends to use the same tools again to overcome similar problems in future, citing the tool as cheap insurance to get to bottom

OILFIELD PRODUm

Case Study

Well Challenge

• A major operator working offshore Central North Sea had experienced extreme difficulties whilst running their 7-5/8" liner to TD.

• The subject well was directionally drilled using an RSS assembly in combination with an under-reamer set to open the hole up from 8W' to 9Ye"diameter.

• The well path exited the 9%" host casing off a whipstock and built from the window on to a high inclination hold angle before landing horizontally at TD in the reservoir.

• The 7%" liner became tight when running out of a loose sand unit. The hole was circulated clean and liner running continued. The then shoe stood up in the region of some limestone stringers seen while drilling the section and it proved impossible to progress beyond these to the planned setting depth. Rotation was not possible due to the connection torque limits.

• The liner was pulled to make a wiper trip to try to dress the limestone ledges back. After cleaning up the well, the liner was re-run and once again became tight at the base of the sands. When attempting to circulate the hole clean, the string packed off and the liner became irretrievably stuck.

Resu lt/Benefit

• The SingleRUN™ Motor, performed as required, getting the liner to bottom first time.

• The Offshore Drilling Supervisors believe that it would not have been possible to run the liner to TO without the tool. Though the run in hole was not without problems, it was possible to wash and work the string past the ledges due to the rotation gained from the inclusion of the motor in the string.

SingleRUN™ Motor

Solution

• After cut and recovery operations, a second window was milled in the host casing and the interval was re-drilled with a modified well path. The 7%" liner was again run, this time with a SingleRUN™ Motor complete with a dull PDC bit crossed back to the liner shoe track. The liner was successfully washed to depth and cemented in place.

• After successfully cementing the liner in place, a whipstock was set in the liner to sidetrack around the motor and drill the 3,000 ft horizontal reservoir interval to well TO.

Description

Disposable CleanUPTM Tool (Clamp-On)

The Disposable CleanUP™ Tool (Clamp-On) is designed to clamp onto equipment that is run into and normally left in the well such as lower completions, upper completions, sand screens, whipstocks and many other critical components where it is imperative that debris is clean and kept away from the equipment. The assembly is equipped with a free rotating stabilisation sleeve fitted with magnets to collect ferrous material as well as a free rotating sleeve fitted with steel bristles for cleaning the internal diameter of the host casing .

Whilst separate pre-completion wellbore clean-up and displacement tools may still be used in advance of running the upper or lower completion, the ability to clean the setting area of the packer immediately prior to setting is deemed advantageous.

The Disposable CleanUP™ Tool (Clamp-On) will clean and prepare the host casing through reciprocation immediately prior to setting a production packer, liner hanger, or integral liner hanger packer on the completion assembly. It will also push debris ahead of critical components such as formation isolation valves and inflow control devices and other functioning downhole equipment. The assembly or multiple assemblies can be positioned and spaced out on the completion pipe as required to clean whilst running in the hole. The tool may also be clamped onto the appropriate size of drill pipe and used on a separate cleaning trip if required. Brush type tools and magnet subs have proven reliable methods of cleaning and preparing casings prior to setting packers for many years.

Applications

• Lower sand screen completions • Formation isolation valve/completion isolation valve

• Advanced completions with surface controlled inflow control devices

• Slotted or pre-perforated liners

• Gravel pack installations • Multi-lateral completions • Whipstocks with packers for casing exits • Liner tie back packers • Multi zone horizontal completions

Benefits

• Low cost insurance in case your well is not as clean as expected

Well Challenge

• Eliminate the need for a dedicated wellbore clean-up trip in the well but still reduce the potential risks from steel swart and other debris causing packer setting and sealing issues

• Having no dedicated clean up trip could leave potentially harmful steel debris in well.

• Sharp burs and steel swart could cause elastomer problems, can we trap this somehow?

• Clean-up trips are becoming very expensive, can we save on this?

• Can I run my completion and adequately clean at the same time?

• Can I source a device which can be cost effective for this requirement?

Result/ Benefit

• Caledus has deployed this single trip technology for a leading operator in Perth Australia

• This simple, yet highly effective technology has seen a successful completion conclude with no time consuming dedicated clean-up trip or packer setting and sealing problems. Further use of this technology (Disposable CleanUP Tool) is planned by the same client

OILFIELD PRODUCTS · DriveSHQETM

Description

The DriveSHOE™ range is a series of large diameter closed-end shoes used during subsea conductor driving operations. It is equipped with an aluminium parabolic nose or a flat aluminium plate . The tool prevents soft surface formation from entering the conductor while it is being driven . This form of conductor driving is advantageous for a number of reasons. There are two main types of DriveSHOE™, the DriiiTHRU™ and the DriveTHRU™.

The DriiiTHRU™ design is a parabolic Aluminium nose threaded and locked to the end of a prepared conductor joint or dedicated pup, and is drilled out once in position . Drillable internal guide landing rings, to accept single shot survey tools, can be provided as part of the DriiiTHRU™ shoe assembly .

The DriveTHRU™ design is a flat bottomed Aluminium plate shear pinned to the end of a prepared conductor joint or dedicated pup and is knocked off and displaced aside by a subsequent conductor string , equipped with a DriiiTHRU™ shoe once in position .

A DriveTHRU™ shoe followed by a DriiiTHRU™ shoe means that two different sizes of conductor can be driven into place, before any drilling needs to take place.

Applications

• • •

Deep driving of conductors Providing ability to survey whilst driving Allows for conductor to be driven through previous conductor

Benefits

• Reduces driving friction • Allows for deeper driving • Can drive an additional conductor through previous

conductor • Helps mitigate against conductor collisions • Allows drive path to be surveyed while driving • Eliminates cuttings and other sea bed pollution

OILFIELD PRODUCTS SlickSHOE™ FastDRILL™

Description

The SlickSHOE TM FastDRILL TM is an eccentric Aluminium nosed casing guide shoe offering no increase in OD compared to the coupling OD of the casing connection . The Aluminium eccentric guide nose is the same as on the BridgeBUSTER® FastDRILL TM reaming shoe and designed with the same internal features for ease of drill-out with all commonly used bits/mills. This latest generation of the already successful SlickSHOE TM has been refined and focus has been placed on further improvement of drillout times without compromising the tool capabilities.

The tool does not include any valves so as to reduce the risk of debris damage to the valve system while running into the well. The company recommends that a normal float collar or double valve float collar is run some distance back from the tool to ensure they are not compromised in performance when working the casing or liner to planned depth.

The SlickSHOE TM FastDRILL ™ has been developed to help guide casing down when ledges or washouts may exist and when a cement nosed guide or float shoe is not considered robust enough. The tool can be used in circumstances when casing rotation or reaming cannot be achieved , but when some orientation of the shoe might be possible through reciprocation .

Applications

Provides enhanced deployment in problematic formations, coal beds, sloughing shale, ledged well bores, ERD, highly deviated and horizontal well bores for applications such as:

• Lower sand screen completions • Liners (cemented or non-cemented) • All casing strings • Slotted or pre-perforated liners • Gravel pack installations • TTRD completions • Multi-lateral completions • Casing exits

Benefits

• Increases probability of casings and liners reaching planned TD

• Fast drill out time significantly reduces the risk of damage to the casing shoe cement integrity which could cause leak off or ledge issues at the shoe

• Fast drill out significantly reduces drilling inside casing time thus protecting BHA and casing

• Improves bit performance • Provides low cost improvement in operational

efficiency • Lower cost insurance • Can be run in conjunction with a NaviGATOR™ to

provide end of casing rotation where the full string cannot be rotated

Features

OILFIELD PRODUCTS NaviGATORTM

Description

The NaviGATOR™ is a casing based tool that ratchets and turns round the end of a casing or liner string by simply reciprocating the pipe. Each time the end of the string is picked up and set down again the end of the NaviGATOR™ rotates around a number of degrees to the right, between 60 and 90 degrees depending on tool size.

A casing reamer shoe (BridgeBUSTER®) or guide shoe (SiickSHOE™) with an eccentric profiled nose, or similar third party device, can be placed below the tool so that the relative rotational motion from reciprocation can be used to orientate the nose over or past obstructions.

The NaviGATOR™ is a particularly useful tool if the casing or liner cannot be rotated whilst running in the hole. The tool can be used on cemented or un-cemented casing strings, completions, liners and sand control screens.

Applications

Provides enhanced deployment in problematic formations, coal beds, sloughing shale, ledged well bores, ERD, highly deviated and horizontal well bores for applications such as:

• Lower sand screen completions • Liners (cemented or non-cemented) • All casing strings • Slotted or pre-perforated liners • Gravel pack installations • TIRO completions • Multi-lateral completions • Casing exits

Benefits

• Increases probability of casings, liners and other open hole deployed systems reaching planned TO

• Can be run in conjunction with a BridgeBUSTER® FastDRILL rM or SlickSHOE™ FastDRILL rM to provide rotation of these tools where the full string cannot be rotated

• Provides low cost improvement in operational efficiency

• Low cost Insurance • Fast drill out as tool has no components to drill out

therefore reduces drilling inside casing time thus protecting BHA

• Fast drill out time significantly reduces the risk of damage to the casing shoe cement integrity which could cause leak off or ledge issues at the shoe

Features

• •

Available in most standard casing/liner versus open-hole combinations Drill-out 10 matches casing being run, no parts to drill inside tool Flow-by areas have been maximised for circulation and cementation Strength to suit casing specifications Supplied with customer specified casing connections Simple to install and use, no operator required

OILFIELD PRODUCTS Drill Bits

Our highly experienced R&D, Design, Manufacturing and Operations team ensures that your drilling costs are continuously being lowered as a direct result of innovative bit design and application.

In today's global oil and gas exploration market, we understand the concept of "No more easy oil. .. " We work closely with drilling engineers and directional companies across the globe, continuously developing technologies to meet and exceed our clients' requirements.

Our ethos of continuous improvement means that we work closely with our customers in every application to ensure that we design and manufacture the optimum product for the job.

Our Products

DDS provides a bespoke service tailored to your specific application within a section. We provide real partnership in the design phase so that our clients can have confidence in the way our PDC products will perform in the field. This approach can lead to significant cost and time savings.

Diamant Drilling Services (DDS) designs and manufactures a complete range of fixed cutter drill bit products in all sizes:

• Steel and matrix bodied bits • Combination cutting structures- diamond impregs- core-heads • Specialised HP/HT bits- microcoring technology

High Spiral

Our High Spiral drill bit technology is a DDS signature product. Years of research has produced a world class product which has set new standards in smoothness and stability.

The challenge

PDC design is constantly striving towards high cutting efficiency and high stability. The typical compromise is to use cutter redundancy, shock reducers or an asymmetrical layout. In some applications, this approach can be effective; however these very features can lead to a reduction in cutting efficiency.

• Cutter redundancy increases the specific energy of the cutting process. • Shock reducers become ROP limiters with PDC wear. • Asymmetrical blade layout induces mass and fluid imbalance.

The solution

High Spiral is a technology introduced by DDS which increases stability without compromising cutting efficiency. In addition, High Spiral designs provide smooth torque response for directional applications. The optimal borehole contact means that High Spiral design increases stablility for smoother drilling.

Microcore TM

Microcoring TM technology has moved PDC technology and bit design to the next level. The drilling of hard formations usually requires specific drilling systems to achieve an efficient rate of penetration. Due to the limited depth of cut, the solution often involves the use of high RPM drive systems such as turbines or high speed motors and a fixed cutter product is usually the drill bit of choice.

A fixed cutter bit which leaves the centre of the hole uncut has been developed to obtain the quality cuttings necessary for the geologist to correctly assess the formation without incurring multiple trips.

The lack of bit centre leads to the creation of a core. This core is broken by the bit itself and ejected at the side through a specifically designed junk slot. The core is then carried to the surface along with the other cuttings. This process leads to very high quality cuttings for surface examination. The improvement is especially important where normal cuttings quality is poor due to the use of turbines or high speed motors together with impregnated diamond bits.

I ,/ '~ ~ .~ . I

Importantly, as the centre part of the bit is uncut, this new technology also provides a significant increase in the rate of penetration . In a fixed cutter bit the centre is one of the most inefficient cutting areas as the rotational speed of the cutter is low to null. By removing the centre, an increased ROP efficiency in the range of 15 to 25 percent can be obtained depending upon the bit diameter.

Drill Bits OILFIELD PRODUCTS

Impregnated Bits

Our impregnated bits are composed of small grits (1 00-700 microns) of natural or synthetic diamond imbedded in a metallic matrix. The composition of the matrix is adapted to the formation to drill. DDS has developed four types of matrix : soft, medium, hard and ultra hard.

It is possible to mix matrix hardness in the same bit. The matrix can be reinforced with TSP or natural diamond elements of a much larger size in order to fit specific applications. Synthetic diamond is generally preferred to natural diamond but is more sensitive to thermal degradation.

Impregnated bit drilling parameters

Due to the small grit size, impregnated bits perform much better at a high RPM and therefore the preferred drilling system will be a turbine or high speed motor for short run and low temperature.

The ROP will be direction proportional to the power delivery at the bit:

POWER= TORQUE X RPM

Experience shows that ROP with turbine is, in general, twice higher than on a motor and four to five times higher than a rotary system.

Using low RPM with an impregnated bit will wear the bit quite rapidly. At a high RPM , the diamond grit depth of cut of an impregnated bit is in general below 10 microns and this shows why impregnated bit performances are not as affected by other bits by pore pressure and mud weight in low permeability formations.

GeoScan TM

Diamant Drilling Services GeoScan TM programme has been developed as an 'advanced predictive tool ' using electrical lo~ data to determine the mechanical strength or hardness of the rock . As well as being a predictive tool , GeoScan T is valuable in post-run analysis when run with accurate drilling parameters from the well.

This rock strength is calculated as the Unconfirmed Compressive Strength (UCS).

The ability to compute hardness of the rock 'indirectly' has been demonstrated to be a valuable tool for drilling optimisation. Knowing the well hardness profile has allowed more accurate bit design and selection and the recommendation of appropriate drilling parameters. We offer the GeoScan TM service to all our prospective customers and post-run partners to help refine the application and improve learning.

The GeoScan TM programme has three main predictive components when presented with the electric log data. GeoScan TM uses the deductive and reiterative process to:

1 Identify the most probable rock type 2 Transform/select the most suitable log data to collect the rock porosity value 3 Correlate the porosity and rock strength for each particular type of rock identified

Mammoth Bits

Encore's Mammoth bits are large diameter PDC bits, sizes 12-1/4" up to 18". Mammoth bit designs are primarily for surface hole and soft shallow formations. Mammoth bits are not designed for highly interbedded hard drilling, but for rapid drilling of float equipment, cement and soft sands, shales and marls. Mammoth bits are predominately for FAST drilling of unconsolidated formations.

In Mammoth bits the junk slots expand as the blades diverge, producing an extremely large junk area to let the shredded plugs and other components get out from under the bit, eliminating hours of costly re-drilling. In high-cost operations, such as deepwater, Mammoth bits can reduce non-productive dri ll out time significantly.

The benefits of deploying the Mammoth bits are:

• Reduces shoe track drilling time due to everted profile • Reduce risk of plugging annulus by float, shoe plug debris with large junk slots

and 'spear' junk slot profile ·· .:.:· :-'~ 1

• Provides high ROP with reduced pump volumes due to nozzle distribution and junk slot velocity

• Minimizes cement plug drilling time by attacking the central part of plugs and float first during drilling

• Improved steering in shallow kickoff, directional wells due to everted cutting structure design

• Reduces WOB requirements during spud-in to reduce deviation when starting wellbore

17Y2'' SPH819 drills best ROP & footage combination through difficult chalk section in Block 8 Norway, with minimal bit wear in single run. ConocoPhilips 03 2010.

Well Challenge:

To complete the 17W' section to TD in a single run, whilst maintaining directional control on a rotary assembly at a competitive ROP.

Summary:

The run was completed with minimal wear present on the SPH819, being graded as 1-1-NO-A-X-1-NO-BHA. The run was ended early for BOP testing . The condition of the bit when retrieved to surface indicates the bit would have been more than capable of completing the section whilst maintaining the competitive ROP.

Result/Benefit:

Average Chalk ROP (mlhr) (Including Connection Time)

SPH819 MDi816

The SPH819 performed consistently throughout the run . A consistent~y high RdP of between 4 and 5 m/hr was achieved through the hard drilling chalk section . 'The Diamant SPH819 PDC bit (BHA #8) was chosen as the appropriate bit to drill the chalk and this was certainly proved to be correct. The steady 4 to 5 m/hr ROP that we saw was above most people's expectations". This is a direct quote from the well site directional driller.

OILFIELD PRODUCTS Versatile Drilling Reamer Description

Omni VDR (Versatile Drilling Reamer) is a drilling enhancement tool equipped with PDC cutters on a bevelled profile to help maintain gage of wellbore in cases of severe swelling and/or borehole instability. The tool also improves borehole shape, straightness and quality by removing ledges and micro-doglegs. Besides the drilling capability, it provides reaming through an integral blade design. The blades are doped with dome or flat Tungsten Carbide Insert (TCI) to provide more reaming or stabilization according to the drilling and formation conditions. TCI distribution is optimized to provide continuous reaming in longitudinal and radial directions. PDC distribution is in accordance with OMNI cutter matrix design, a technique that allows for balanced drilling and reduced vibrations.

This tool are ideally installed as the upper most gage device in the BHA to prevent sticking by back reaming/drilling the way for the rest of BHA while pulling out of hole (POOH).

Applications

A VDR should be used whenever stuck pipe problems are prognosed or expected such as:

• Mobile formations • Fractured and faulted formations • Reactive formations • Over-Pressured formations • Hole cl eaning problems • Unconsolidated formations • Key seats • Ledges and micro doglegs • Swelling shale and salt formations • Heavy back reaming

• Tight spots

OILFIELD PRODUCTS Versatile Drilling Head

Description

Omni VDH (Versatile Drilling Head) stems from the VDR and allows for in-string drilling. By isolating the drilling functionality of the VDR, the VDH makes this feature available to all downhole tools. The tool provides gage protection to downhole components that perform poorly when borehole becomes undergage, or with poor hole quality. The tool removes undergage in both POOH or RIH. PDC distribution is in accordance with OMNI cutter matrix design, a technique that allows for balanced drilling and reduced vibrations. A shock protection gage ring is present to arrest impact. Gage ring length can be customized as per need.

This tool can be placed anywhere in the drill string before and/or after tool being protected.

Applications

A VDH can be used essentially as a gage protection tool

• Mobile or transient formation • Fractured and faulted formation • Tight spots • Unconsolidated formation • Key seats and micro doglegs • Swelling shale and salt formations • Poor hole cleaning • Interbedded formation • Corkscrew hole effect

Benefits

• Upper VDH is suitable when expecting mobile or transient formation problems where back reaming is required

• Lower VDH is suitable for front drilling such as a fixed radius PDC hole opener and gauging irregular holes while RIH especially when drill bit becomes worn due to sections of abrasive formations

OILFIELD PRODUCTS On-Bit Fixed Blade Stabilizer

Description

Omni On-Bit Fixed Blade Stabilizers stabilize drill bits to sharply decrease bit vibration. They also sharply decrease bit walk and whirl when used as part of a combination of fixed blade stabilizers distributed along the length of the BHA. All features of Omni On-Bit Fixed Blade Stabilizers can be customized including the Total Mud Flow Area, the shape of the upset and the length of its full gage section, as well as the type of wear protection used.

Omni On-Bit Fixed Blade Stabilizers are placed right on top of drill bits. In case motors are used, a special configuration is placed between the motor and bit.

Applications

It is highly recommended to use an Omni On-Bit Fixed Blade Stabilizer when:

• Expecting very strong bit vibrations either due to the chosen drilling parameters and/or the nature of the sections being drilled

• Drilling a straight hole section in extreme crooked hole country

Benefits

• Reduction of drilling vibration • Improvement of drilling efficiency and ROP • Improvement of borehole roundness and

smoothness • Limitation of undesired hole deviation • Allowance for greater WOB

Features

• Fully customizable for different drilling operations' conditions and needs

• 360° blade coverage ensures maximum stabilization and minimum vibration

• Mudways shape and number optimized to have minimum effect on bit hydraulics

OILFIELD PRODUCTS RotoTEC®

Description

The RotoTEC® is a drill-pipe deployed tool designed to eliminate casing wear and reduce torque and drag in the drill string. Unwanted casing wear and torque and drag can occur when the drill pipe tool joints come into contact with the casing under side-load during any pipe movement creating a frictional load between the surfaces.

The RotoTEC® comprises a free rotating outer body called the Protector Sleeve and an internal Pipe Sleeve. These parts are constructed from a composite material, which is highly durable, chemically inert and made from a self lubricating polymer with a low coefficient of friction. The superior bearing qualities, allow surfaces to take higher loads, speeds and temperatures. The sleeves are fixed by robust upper and lower retaining clamps. The Pipe Sleeve, which is unique to RotoTEC®, prevents rotating parts contacting the drill pipe, negating any wear that may be caused when abrasive particles are present in the drilling fluid and pass under the sleeve.

Applications

RotoTEC® can eliminate casing wear and reduce torque and drag significantly by providing low friction free rotating positive stand-off surfaces in the following applications :

• Drilling operations • Completions operations • Multi-lateral activity

Benefits

• Reduces torque and drag • Eliminates casing wear • Protects drill pipe • Enhanced limited rig capability/reduce stress

on surface equipment • Does not increase stand height in Derrick

regardless of quantity • Does not increase number of connections in

drill string • Maximised flow area • Minimal ECD impact • Less stiffening effect than rigid sub based

tools • Does not affect drill string ratings as external

to pipe • Reduce drill-string drag during lower

completion installations i.e. sand screens/liner running

• Drilling riser protection

Features

• • • • • • • • •

High strength composite High resistance to clamp slippage High side-load rating per tool High revolutions life per tool Generous fluting Drill pipe protection bearing Wear indicators Short compact design Lightweight construction

Case Study

Well Challenge

• Shallow extended reach heavy oil wells in Alberta, Canada. Typical wells ran between 600 to BOOm TVD and 3100 to 3500m MD. As a result of the short vertical when drilling with 5" DP beyond 2500m torque and drag increased to the point that drilling has to be stopped short of the targeted measured depth.

• Wells (6) were drilled from a pad with either a single or dual lateral well bore. The rig would first drill and case all (6) vertical sections and then begin to drill the laterals to TD and run slotted liner completions.

• In the case of dual laterals the first well would be drilled and completed with the slotted liner and then a window cut and the second lateral drilled and slotted liner run.

Resu lt/ Benefit

• As RotoTEC® units on the HWDP were added there was a 30 - 35% reduction in torque noted and the lateral legs wells were drilled to planned measured depth in 1 -2 days whereas in the past it would take up to 4-5 days with no guarantee that they would reach TD. The benefits to the client were twofold in that the wells were drilled several days sooner and to full depth.

• In one field the client used 8%" casing and in another 9%", no ECD issues were encountered in either casing string, but as a contingency Caledus provided the client with a modified protector design that provided an additional 20% TFA inside the 8%" wells should ECD become an issue.

• To date the client has used RotoTEC® in (45) wells and continues to do so whenever torque values are seen to increase.

RotoTEC®

TO Solution

• RotoTEC Friction Reducer® non-rotating drill pipe protectors were proposed to be run on 5" HW Drill Pipe when torque levels started to increase. Caledus field engineer and the company reps worked out an on-site placement program based on past experience and review of logs and survey data.

• The operator typically would initiate drilling the lateral section with standard 5" drill pipe and when approaching torque limits start adding ., their HWDP'1 with (2) RotoTEC®s per joint. This dbrifiguration would address sideload forces and facilitate drilling both rotationally and by sliding pipe. The RotoTEC®s were only run inside casing so typical requirements only ran 70-100 units per well.

• The operator would skid the rig on the pad and had the luxury of being able to keep the RotoTEC® aSSEfmblies on the HWDP which also contributed ·in shortening the time required to drill each lateral section.
