ACCELERATING BIOBASED BUSINESS

Green Chemistry Campus: accelerating biobased business

The Green Chemistry Campus, on the premises of SABIC Innovative Plastics inBergen op Zoom, is a business accelerator for biobased innovations. B2B entrepreneurs − both large companies and SMEs, knowledge institutions, and the government work closely together in an open innovation environment to develop new biobased technologies and products with a focus on performance materials, chemicals and coatings. Through the valorisation of residual flows from the agricultural and food sector, the Campus actively contributes to a sustainable and profitable biobased economy with less dependence on fossil fuels, without competing with food supplies.

At the Green Chemistry Campus start-up businesses benefit from renowned incubator services to take the step from (pre)start-up to full-scale production. Large companies and knowledge institutions on the other hand praise the Campus as an excellent location to carry out R&D, as well as its unique possibility to co-site.

The Green Chemistry Campus multiplies your chances of biobased business success by offering: 1. Excellent facilities, all in one location 2. Open innovation in the value chain 3. State-of-the-art business development programs 4. Tailor-made incubator services 5. A stimulating and inspiring community

You, too, can be part of the Campus’ attractive establishment climate with a proven trackrecord in biobased business!

1. Excellent facilities to support the entire business life cycle all in one location • The sustainable and contemporary-design of the Campus Innovation Center (CIC) with open-plan offices, plus project and meeting rooms. • State of the art process technology laboratories (walk-in fume hoods, reactors) and center of excellence for analytical technology (chromatography, spectroscopy, and micro-analysis). • Opportunity to allow production on a semi-commercial scale. • Opportunities for co-siting. • A world-class site infrastructure, including: EHS, IT, central reception, restaurant and auditorium.

2. Open innovation in the value chain • At the opening in 2011 the Association of the Dutch Chemical Industry (VNCI) awarded the Green Chemistry Campus the status of Center for Open Chemical Innovation (COCI). This states that VNCI considers the Campus an essential hotspot with appropriate knowledge and infrastructure at its disposal to co-develop a sustainable, knowledge-intensive and profitable future. With this status the Campus can count on the support and attention of Europe’s chemical and agricultural sector. • The presence of various companies and renowned national and international knowledge institutions at the Campus, plus the availability of our Scientific Board, ensures you can tap in to a diverse and relevant knowledge base: technology, economics, IP, business development and financial support. • At a strategic, geographical location, the Green Chemistry Campus is part of a triple helix network with know-how in the fields of green chemistry, agriculture, and business development for optimal cross-fertilisation.

3. State-of-the-art biobased business development programs • The Green Chemistry Campus hosts various integrated biobased business development programs around several development lines for three market segments: performance chemicals, performance materials and coatings. These programs are always on the lookout for new promising partners and initiatives.

4. Tailor-made incubator services to multiply your chances of biobased business success • Advice and support on how to finance your biobased innovations. • Access to business coaching and IP advice. • Support during the entire establishment process. • Access to a network of potential business partners. • Mediating in obstructing legislation concerning biobased chemistry.

5. Stimulating and inspiring community with like-minded, business-driven people • Attractive business and innovation climate with proven track record in biobased business. • Periodical thematic lunch meetings and drinks to share knowledge and know-how. • You can join the Campus’ PR program with numerous contributions in dedicated, biobased press and events.

Surroundings: Biobased Delta, Europe’s Biobased Hotspot

The Southwest-Netherlands is at the European forefront of biobased innovations:the region is known for its vibrant and thriving ecosystem that drives open innovation. It hosts a triple-helix cooperation program with cross-overs between branches and considerable investments have been made over the past years.

The area generates the highest GDP per capita in the world, mainly owing to the stronghistoric presence of the agricultural and chemical industries such as SABIC, Shell,Royal Cosun, Cargill, DOW and Lamb Weston Meijer, offering ample opportunity forcross-fertilization and biobased business development.

The Green Chemistry Campus is strategically located within 40 minutes from the portsof Rotterdam (Europe’s largest port) and Antwerp (second largest) and is easily accessible by road. The Green Chemistry Campus is part of the Biobased Delta, in the Southwest-Netherlands: a triple-helix, public-private valorisation platform in the field of biobased chemistry. Under the heading “Agro meets Chemistry” the Biobased Delta, togetherwith partners in Flanders and the province of South Holland, presents itself, as a Biobased Economy hotspot in Europe.
